We are bringing the whole family across the country to attend DD’12’s graduation in two weeks. We will visit a lot of cousins while on the east coast. DD will work for a year or two before going to grad school. We have a DD’18 who will visit a couple of colleges (She just took the SAT on Saturday.)
Congrats to everyone. I love reading about all these kids.
6 weeks ago, D12 decided, after being on the PA track for 4 years, that she wanted to be a dentist (like me). Amazing! She had already done the leg work to make sure she met the academic requirements, had made a list of schools in the midwest that she would be competitive for, developed a study program for the DAT that she takes next week, and arranged to attend a career day at our state school. So we’re going with it!
I had always hoped she would follow this path, but did not push at all. You have to want this career because it’s hard to switch careers (not to mention expensive) if you decide you don’t like it. She has 200 paid hours working for me so she knows the day to day routine. She will apply this cycle, retake the DAT in August if needed, and hope for acceptance to to the class of 2021.
Congratulations @MemphisGuy! The MSTP route is a long one, that’s for sure. DS has completed the first two years of medical school and is about a third of the way into his Ph.D. at this point. He really seems to be enjoying it.
So exciting to see what the next steps are for our kiddos!!! Such amazing things :)… I haven’t chimed in for a long time but thought I would update.
Man, I am rusty using this forum!!!
The DD is graduating end of the month with a B.A.C.S minor in Education… she has secured a job and will be staying in the Boston area… no more Texas for that girl - at least for now! She will be using the CS degree for now and she and we are all very happy with the gig!!!
Haven’t been here in ages. I find myself getting nostalgic as DS finishes his honors exams this week and prepares to graduate at the end of the month. He ended up in physics and engineering as he had predicted going in and has had a good 4 years. Will be working for 1 or 2 years and then plans to apply to graduate school in physics. Starting the journey again with his sister…HS class of '17.
Getting ready to head to NYC this weekend for graduation mid-week next week! D is still going with the consulting job in Washington DC in the fall. She’ll be doing an internship in Manhattan for the summer paying enough for her to cover her basic expenses! I can’t believe it’s done. I think I’ll be paying the car insurance and cell phone bill until she gets a couple paychecks but she’ll be doing well for herself after that!
My son just texted that the thesis is complete. Next text was a pint glass filled with some kind of brew and on the glass was painted, “Feel the Bern.”
Congrats, Moms and Dads out there going to graduations this month. We launched some kids into the world.
Yes, I’m one of the 5 year parents, albeit due to a special program in addition to his 4 year rather than due to needing more time due to having changed majors or whatever.
Those of us with URoc kids froze our tushies off at a 41 degree graduation last Sunday. It was worth it though. The speakers were good and I loved the individual ceremony events plus my guy got a couple of special awards and there was a Senior Farewell variety show he danced in.
We repeat it all next year (minus the Awards Ceremony I suspect). I just hope they pay the weather committee a little more as 41 was pretty darn cold!
Safe travels @lilmom ! We start Day 1 of our 4 day cross country drive tomorrow morning! This will be the first time we have had all four kids on the East Coast. After the graduation, we will visit some cousins and hit some museums in NYC and D.C. Hopeful to get DD’18 a tour at a college or two – it never ends.
Glide … I love the Springer photo. Mine is 12 and suddenly his age is showing. My son can’t wait to see him once he is done this weekend of graduation.
It is a BEAUTIFUL windless, cloudless 78-degrees for commencement day!
Congrats to all graduates parents. It’s incredible to think where we were 4 years ago this month! May your kids enjoy rich, blessed lives full of their definition of success and achievement!!
Congratulations on all the graduations and post grad plans!! It went by in a heartbeat, didn’t it?
We are 10 days out from our family cross country flight to Boston for our 11 day trip to see our son and his fiancee graduate and get married. They moved all their stuff out of the dorm today, and are driving a u-haul to our future in-laws house where they’ll have a week until flying back to gear up for graduation and wedding.
Well add me to the all done list. DD2 graduated with piles of honors and awards and a big smile on her face. Great fun to be there with the whole family. Now, where am I going to spend that tuition I don’t have to pay this summer…
