DD will be either 2671 miles away or 2354 miles away. She will make an overnight campus visit next week, with a final decision soon thereafter.

Creekland – Good luck figuring out the problem without undue stress for you.

absweetmarie – What con? I have a couple of con goers and one will be at Northwestern next year…

Creekland - That was scary! Good luck.

Just wondering how do you all know the distances so precisely? Do you google and get the driving distance or flying distance if flying?

mihcal - If you are around, how did your D’s visit to Berkeley go? I am guessing she liked it?

Creekland make sure you all see specialists (cardiology and neurology) to help with diagnosis. They can do 24 hour heart monitor as well as 24 hour eeg to try to capture irregularities. Sometimes even expand to 48 or 72 hours. Also, make sure your son was not taking any supplements for athletics. Even the legal ones can cause these problems. Those performance and energy packs of vitamins sold at convenience store counters have herbs and caffeine that can cause problems in many people. He may not think about these as causing a problem, or may be embarrassed to mention it. So make it worth his while to fess up…like if they find the cause., he may be able to return to driving sooner.

GeminiMom: I’ll ask my D about the con when she doesn’t want to kill me. Mornings suck.

D will be about 40 miles away…so no more than 2 hours in LA traffic :-)

Creekland, also ask about changes in diet, especially “energy” drinks. Some of those have a LOT of caffeine. Thinking of you both, and hoping for fast, uncomplicated answers.

gildo - Thanks. Now that we are into details, is it door to door or city to city:)

abs - Sounds like you are having a rough morning. Not to rub it in, but I am having an improved relationship with my D. I am trying to tie all the losse end with my D. She is realizing she won’t be coming home to stay unlike past summer away programs. My D is also well represented in her schools showcasing select seniors culminating their past efforts. Sad but celebratory finale.

Creekland, How scary! I agree w/ the others on checking out other possibilities. It does sound like you are on top of it. Hope you get answers soon and DS is back to his normal routine.

Last night I e-mailed the person who organized the extended weekend program at the college last night as D doesn’t have much time or internet access due to the band trip. Hopefully she will respond w/ a student for D to contact by phone. D will only be back from the DC band trip for one day before she flies out for her Macalester long weekend.

Creekland - I hope you find an answer soon and it involves something like, “take two asprin and you are done.” (((hugs)))

DS12 will be 1354 miles from home. No dress for us! He does own a tux that we bought for him used at the tux rental place because we figured 3 rentals (Jr prom 2x, plus senior prom) and it would be cheaper and he would have a tux that our DS17 could use too.

DD13 is going to two proms and we are in prom mode around here! Two dresses, one midnight blue mermaid dress with large gems on the bodice and one red lace mermaid with glitter around the entire dress. She looks fabulous! At least one dress was found in a store, but bought on the internet because it was $100 cheaper. No new shoes, no paying to have makeup done, but she is getting an “updo” at the hair dressers. Boys have it so much easier!

Hair updo! Fun!

A little unfortunate incident for my D’s prom dress, the taylor hemmed a little too short. We are heading out to get a pair of flats. Otherwise, she is beautiful in her periwinkle halter dress.

It’s okay, iglooo, I am able to appreciate other people’s good fortune!

Actually, today was not unlike most mornings. I have a bad habit of trying to talk to my D about important things during morning prep time, even though I know she is never in the mood to talk about anything serious before 8 a.m.

Last night, she called me into her bedroom after “lights out.” I thought, “Ooh, she needs a hug!” Instead, she was feeling anxious about finding someone to hem her prom dress in time. “Yes, honey,” I said, “We can get that done in the next two weeks.” Then I told her I had hoped a hug was wanted. She gave me one, even though she didn’t actually need one. I did and she was willing to comply.

I’m hoping for a “down-do”. D always has her hair “contained” back for sports and I only see it down when it’s drying after a shampoo. She has friends who have never seen her hair down . . . and there’s a lot to see. A dress and flowing hair would really add drama - people won’t recognize her.

mspearl - okay, it kinda freaks me out that school admins are reading this thread and figuring out who people are!

creekland - everything is relevant with your son. Keep going to new docs til someone figures it out. An employee was drinking energy drinks, 2 a day, and nearly had a heart attack and winded up in the hospital. Be sure to find out from your son if he is taking anything at all.

abs - It’s a happy person who appreciate other’s ggod fortune. At present, I wish for no hemming for my D’s dress than what she got, overhemming. we went to the taylor recommended by the store where she got the dress. Anyway, it looks like there are plenty brides with a not-so-tall groom. Wedding shops have plenty fancy slippers/flats my D will be happy to wear.

SF - Flowing hair sounds great! Would that obstruct the earrings? My D finally got her ears pierced and plans to debut with danglies. I made an appointment at a salon for a hairdo and makeup, too, while at it. I was so glad her prom date had enough guts to ask her in a straight manner and without help from parents.

saintfan, my D has abundant long flowing hair which is often contained for convenience. She decided that updos aren’t really her thing and the dress she’d bought for prom would look better with her hair down, so went for a prom hair appointment and requested “loose ringlets.” The result was very glamorous and she was thrilled with it.

Doubtless some girls (or their moms) are very accomplished with curling irons and could do this sort of thing at home. Our family, not so much, and the salon job was beautiful while being less expensive than an updo.

weatherga - Congrats to your D on UGA honors. We spent a night in Athens at Christmastime two years ago on our way home from Florida and fell in love…what an amazing town. I was very impressed with everthing about the school - am thinking my S’16 may apply…

eyemamom - I was hoping the adcoms were reading the Kenyon thread and not our parents thread. :)

Congrats to all making decisions!!

I’m trying to find info on a program where kids can volunteer to work on a crew at a national park or other natural areas. I’ve seen some parents refer to it here, but don’t rememeber the sponsoring agency or organization. Any leads or link would be appreciated. Thanks.

My girl will be 1060 miles away–very happy that Southwest flies to NOLA from CLE, but no direct flights that I’ve seen so far, always at least one stop. She didn’t apply to any Ohio schools–always saw herself on one coast or another–but not the North Coast.

She found a prom dress online, and it’s not too expensive, guess I’d better get it ordered in case she needs alterations. I can’t believe how quickly her senior year is flying by.
