Older D went to prom junior and senior years. Junior year she had an up-do. Senior year she wore it long with waves. Her hair is naturally curly so it was actually straighter than usual with waves.

Luckily I have a friend who is a former hairdresser, who adores D, and came over and did her hair for free! The girls around here go to the department stores to have their makeup done.

She is a ballet dancer and those from dance are definitely not used to seeing her with her hair down!

S has reserved a vest/tie in “Malibu” to match date’s dress for prom. We purchased a tux his freshman year of HS. Someone his size had ordered it to wear to the presidential inauguration but then changed his mind; store was trying to unload it since it was custom ordered. Purchased it cheaper than one rental. He’s a musician and wears it frequently. One December they had 20 performances in just that month! Definitely got our $70 worth out of it.

Does anyone know if we have to officially withdraw applications from schools S has chosen NOT to attend…or is not paying the deposit all that is necessary?

For the conservation program, I did SCA and had an amazing time. It’s the Student Conservation Association. There are also work programs in Yellowstone and Yosemite that I can send you links to if you’re interested. The only problem is that almost all of the deadlines have passed for this shmmer but I’d be happy to tell you more about my experience and about other programs rhat I know of

wdaveo-DS sent cards or emails to the schools letting them know. He had merit on the table and just in case it could be given to someone else, he wanted to make sure they knew. In one case it was a specific scholarship so it could go to the next kid on the list.

In almost every acceptance packet there was a card where you could write that you will not be attending and put the school of choice on it.

sunmachine, I was looking into this exact sort of thing for my D a few weeks back. Here’s a few links that I unearthed (partly with help from CC folk!)

Igloo – D had a great visit, loves Berkeley. She isn’t saying much (is generally reserved), but I think it’s top of the list. Still, other schools to visit: Northwestern 4/15-16, Cornell 4/19-21, possibly more.

I second (third? fourth?) mimk6’s epiphany quote.

My D has loooooonnng hair, so long she can sit on it. There’s just too much of it for an up-do. For every-day she wears it in a single braid down her back. For dressy occasions, she wears it long and flowing. It’s naturally curly, and can be coaxed into 3’ long ringlets.

Congrats to all! It’s great to hear about everyone’s progress with decisions and awards.
DS has still not made his final decision - 2 schools in the running…Actually, he said he has chosen one. I’m strongly encouraging he go to both school’s admitted students’ days bc he has been seriously considering both of these schools since application time. Now, I’m reconsidering - if he really has made his decision maybe I should just let it be, but I know that previously these 2 schools have been equal in choice, and he hasn’t been able to communicate the reason for his decision. I asked him if he was going with his “gut” or if he weighed the pros and cons of both schools? No answer! :(

igloo: D does not have pierced ears, so no conflict there

mihcal1: I thought absweetmarie and I might share a daughter and not realize it, but now I see that maybe you and I do. That is D’s hair exactly!

wdaveo: many schools have and enclosure card with a postpaid return envelope to accept or decline. Others have that option via their online portal. D did that yesterday and teh day before and loved the finality of it. It made her decision seem more official and was kind of cathartic, I think, to not have to try to love her safeties that she could have done fine it but didn’t really love.

I mainly lurk here, but had to add: S will either be 2651 miles away or 4.5 miles! I haven’t seen one that close posted yet. I’m hoping for an epiphany during next week’s spring break. No college visits planned, but a road trip with friends who are going away for school may tip him over the edge. We’ll see.

My D does not have long, flowing tresses like mihcal’s and saintfan’s Ds. Sounds beautiful! (I’m sure they are!) My D is now sporting a style similar to the one she had when she was a toddler, an adorable bob.

Hark! D finally has a prom date and not just any prom date: the boy she had a secret crush on in 8th grade, who when they got to high school ended up running in a different social circle, who crossed cliques today to ask her to prom. He’s a super handsome, sweet, smart jock boy. It’s like a fairytale end to high school. Hilarious.

D will be about 150 miles away. I’m secretly very happy, it’s far enough that she can do her own thing, but close enough that we can see her in shows/performances and she can come back home for special events easily.

Both D’s are also pierced ears holdouts… older one has no inclination at all, younger one feels peer pressure sometimes, but ultimately backs down when it comes time to actually doing it.

I’ve decided never to post on other threads again, everyone here is so nice it makes me forget how mean some folks can be. Thanks!
