What a neat ending to high school, MM!! And as to ear piercing, my DD won’t have it done, either. When she was younger, she was deathly afraid of shots. I should have had someone pierce them when she had her tonsils out last summer!!!

wow, MommyMommy!

D has not issue with shots or pain - she is the one who watches the needle go in. I just don’t think having her ears pierced ever crossed her mind and she’d have to take them out every day anyway. She’s more of a phiten necklace kid.

Amazed how many non-pierced-eared D’s there are in this group (my D is not among them, though she didn’t take the plunge until 13 or so). Some sort of weird correlation with wackaloon parents?

My D got her ears pierced and then decided she didn’t like the hassle and let them grow over. She has a really severe fear of needles so I don’t know if she will get them done again.

ohksaj04, I know what you mean! However, I always let myself get sucked into threads that infuriate me after all. Its funny, because I notice that most fo the time, we don’t insult other people directly that participate in this thread. I try not to anyway. Now other parents are fair game!

An update on Ds scholarship weekend. His interview is over, and he thinks it went well. Now it is abotu fun and exploring th college. He just texted me about how perfect everything is there. Just hope he loves it next year.

Mommy, Mommy-- congrats on your girl’s prom date! My girl heard that her 8th grade crush was going to ask her too–(long time comin’) but then someone else beat him to it. She is good friends with the boy who asked her, so she couldn’t say no. She’ll still hang out with 8th grade crush boy at the dance too…they’ll go in a group. They’re all just friends anyway, which is great.

Oh, and my girl didn’t get her ears pierced until she was 16-- afraid of needles/pokey things mostly.

My ears aren’t pierced but D’s are. And I’ve never dyed my hair. My 10-year-old niece asked me the other day if I’d dyed it … Or had I perhaps gotten “highlights,” she wanted to know. That’s a nice spin on greying hair.

absweetmarie-- I keep telling myself I have highlights. But it’s time to renew my friendship with Miss Clairol.

I don’t have girls, but my boys don’t have their ears pierced. (Neither do I, so I suppose I’m a holdout. No fear - just never wanted them done. My mom is the same way. Maybe part of it is genetic.)

Thanks to all for suggestions about youngest. He never does (or did) energy drinks. The only truly “new” thing in France was Coke Zero. We don’t have artificial sweeteners in our house, but I’m not religious about it, so he’s had them with friends or when we’re visiting. I don’t think that would be it. Plus, it wouldn’t explain his episode here a week later. He did more coffee over there too, but has done it on trips here without issues.

Today he seems pretty darn normal from what I’ve seen. I suppose I’m secretly hoping it just all goes away and becomes a blip in our memory. I’ve sort of even wondered if it’s all in MY mind (but I didn’t witness either episode and adults were there who called 911).

In reality, our next Dr appt is Friday and I expect a referral to neuro, then possibly cardiac. We’ll see what’s up. He’s bummed tonight that he can’t go to an all nighter that had been planned. He was supposed to be a leader and the all nighter is for younger kids. The guy in charge (wisely) said he shouldn’t come. If tiredness brings it on, it’s not something younger kids need to see. Middle son is still going though, so youngest has friends over now and we’re going to watch a movie.

In the meantime, I don’t want middle son’s college plans getting overshadowed. This is supposed to be HIS spring. Poor middle son. It’s always oldest or youngest… he didn’t even want to consider going to college where oldest goes. He wants his own life and I can’t blame him!

My S interned with SCA last summer and had a great time. Wonderful organization. He is going to go back on his gap year and work in Yosemite… with good pay. They have tons of jobs if you look on their website. You just ave to be okay with sleeping in a tent and no bathrooms. There were half girls, half boys on his crew. The girls were all very cute… hmmmm?? What’s not to like about that?

Well… DS14 had a GREAT day today. Found out he has been accepted into Stratford Shakespeare Co’s Summer Intensive in Canada with a full scholarship… very prestigious program if you want to study Shakespeare. He also got an email that he was also accepted into Tisch’s Studio Acting program. He will turn it down for Stratford, but he was thrilled to be considered, especially as a Sophomore.

DS12 is in Canton NY… at SLU… my H said as far as beauty, it isn’t much… but my DS could care less about that… anxious to hear how it goes… I’m worried because it is a Friday night. I guess he will find out what they do for fun in the middle of nowhere…LOL!

I really wish I had not unpacked my suitcase when I came home on Sunday. It would have been easier to have lived out of the suitcase than to go through packing again.

Wow, 5boys! It sounds like an AWESOME day for DS14.

Congrats 5boys! And my girl has always been fascinated with SLU but never got around to applying.

Well. We are home from Kenyon and my D is in love. She went to two classes and loved them, bought a sweatshirt in the bookstore ( in the kids section = saved money!) and bought Emma and Oliver Twist. She feels like a minor celebrity with everyone coming up to her and talking about her essays. Very cool.

And yes, it is interesting that college admissions read this. But I am guessing most likely they read the Kenyon thread because that is where I posted about the writing award. So I guess I should watch what I say… ;)

Mspearl, so excited for your daughter! I think of her every time we get an email giving us another reason to choose Kenyon.

5boys, wonderful news for your ds14. Sounds like the
experience of a lifetime!

Creekland, glad all is well today.

My only dd has had her ears pierced since she was 4 months old.
It’s a Puerto Rican thing! I think I was even younger!

Mspearl - more than likely they do a search for college on CC and get all references. They need to see what people are saying about the school without having to keep track of individual threads that can go on for pages about hemlines and highlights (just kidding!).

Congrats to 5boys DS '14. Interesting combination of acting physicist.

I hear Caltech (I am assuming all of LA mimk?) has pouring rain and its 40 degrees. A very surprised group of visitors on campus.

Yes. ^^
Hail, thunder and torrential rain at the moment here in SoCal. Snow at 3500 feet they are saying, though I can’t see the top of our peak through the gray wall of rain.

Beats the hail, thunder, torrential rain and tornados we have at the moment.

Yes, unreal weather today. We had non-stop thunder and lightning for hours. Hopefully it will clear up for takeoff tomorrow morning. It has stopped raining for now where I am.

5boys,

A huge congratulations to DS14! He must be incredibly talented to have acceptances to two top places with full scholarships-amazing!! You must be so proud. :-)

Creekland,

I hope it’s a blip on the radar screen, too.

mim,

Pretty unusual weather for mid-April, for sure.

mathinokc - Where are you located? Is it in OK?
