Parents of the HS Class of 2013 - 3.0 to 3.3 GPA

Ruby - sent you a PM

Ruby, sending your child off to college is stressful enough without adding your job situation to the mix. Hope to hear news of a new job from you soon. ((Hugs))

I thought it would be helpful to readers of this thread (current & future) if we would all list colleges our children were accepted by. (Let’s put the rejections behind us!) Perhaps, also, if you already know where your child will attend, just put an asterisk by that college.

Re: Juniata – What does “redirected” mean? I’m stumped.

Re: layoff, I second the suggestion to call your top couple of choices and speak with Dir. of Financial Aid. This makes you a “dislocated worker” which changes your FAFSA status. We have had some challenging financial circumstances in our family lately – FAFSA methodology did not take them into account, but we filled out “special circumstances” applications and have found FA officers to be receptive. They do have some discretion beyond the FAFSA and they have a lot of experience with unemployed parents of late.
Best of luck to you.

Not officially accepted but I just checked my daughter’s (3.1 gpa) Chapman webadvisor and clicked the “accept” or “reject” financial award and it has a letter with the breakdown of the financial aid available to her. Last time I checked (yesterday) there was no financial aid displayed. It looks like the B+ student got into the hardest program at Chapman: DODGE!!! :)

@ELY-Congratulations! We may be looking at some of those schools next month. I would love to hear your thoughts on Marquette. Also, is your son leaning more towards any particular college? Finally, to give this worried Dad a little hope, would you mind sharing some of your sons stats either here or PM? I see you are also from Connecticut and looking at out of region colleges. Thanks!

Oh No Mommawhalie, you sent me scrambling over to Chapman website. I didn’t think anything would change between yesterday and today.

I don’t see a financial award letter and nothing generates from the accept award link. I need to start preparing for bad news.

@ Coral–well I wouldn’t give up hope for Little Coral just yet. There were EA parents who didn’t get FA info until much later. From reading about Little Coral on Chapman, she is in a different program for Dodge than my little whalie. As admissions pointed it out for the little whale, PORTFOLIO was heavily weighted, and my daughter has a whale of a talent as an artist. Its a different criteria for Little Coral, so keep up the hope.

DH just had a long talk with DS today. Turns out he has been very quiet because he is afraid to go far away to school and afraid of failing in college. Because of his ADD he thinks he won’t be able to pay attention to the lectures. I know many of you have ADD kids who are now in college, how did they handle this? Do most professors make the lecture notes available on line or is note taking critical? He did apply to small colleges with low faculty to student ratios-that should help right?

I think my D is finally getting very anxious about the acceptances that were mailed on Friday 3/15. She woke up this morning, went out to the mailbox and came back in “Mom, has the mail come yet today”?? I had to remind her it was Sunday

It’s been quite a while since I said anything here. Things have been interesting around here, mostly with $$.

I love the idea of the one-look list of all the schools that have proudly accepted these great kids. I tried to beg, plead, bribe, and cajole my D into applying to some of these schools (that I only knew about thanks to the knowledge and support here), but sadly with little success.

Okay, I think I’ve successfully alphabetized our list, and added my son’s (3.2 at time of applications, higher now) acceptances here. First rejection letter from U San Diego came yesterday, just as we returned from a WONDERFUL admitted students visit to U of Oregon. Great learning support at U of O, he’s likely to go there. USD was a long shot, he’s totally okay with it. Still waiting to here from 2 more schools. if someone had already added the college, I put x 2. Next poster can put x 3, and so on… Does that make sense?
