Found out yesterday that my DS did not get into Umass Amherst Engineering, still accepted as Undeclared. We just put the deposit down to hold his place at UConn (his top choice any how!). I think it was better that the decision was taken out of his hands. i think he would’ve had a hard time. He would rather go to Uconn but would feel guilty about the extra cost.

Good luck to everyone else still waiting to hear or trying to decide!

Looking forward to the Accepted students day in a couple of weeks and getting some UConn swag! Bring on the car stickers and the sweatshirts!

If you can, sometime, go up Route 31? I think, to Willington Pizza to eat, ConfusedMominMA, excellent restaurant… Then go eat ice cream at the Dairy Bar… (The cookies in the dining hall are real good) I always like the food in the UCONN dining halls and the Student Union.

Believe me, I all ready knew about the Dairy Bar! Have gotten ice cream there twice so far!! Looking forward to getting more on accepted students day on the 13th.

My D has just eliminated Earlham and COW as she got her choices down to the top three. We loved both those schools–feeling sad to say “goodbye” to them! I never anticipated that the elation of getting accepted to multiple schools would be followed by a feeling of disappointment as she gets down to the one. I guess that’s the downside of following the advice not to fall in love with any one college during the process. Good luck to your D!

Good luck at SDSU coral-- and with the BF situation. Bribes can be good-- is she still considering Cal Lutheran?

I am envious of all of you who have decisions-- congrats to all of you!

Got FA package from LMU-- even worse than Denver. We had already planned to visit again this week since we were going to the area for Redlands Admitted Student Day so I plan to talk to LMU FA office in person. We will see if that does any good. I am hoping DS absolutely loves Redlands and everything is perfect there-- then it won’t matter what LMU says. So frustrating, but I guess in a few weeks we will be decided either way. Anyone have experience with LMU increasing FA?

My son got waitlisted at Loyola Marymount (LMU), just found out online. He had been deferred, and is proud of getting this far with them. He was expecting another “No thanks.” He loved their gorgeous campus, facilities, library etc when we self-toured, (it was Parents Weekend 2012) so he’s thinking about whether he’d like to do a formal tour before he decides whether to stay on the WL or not.

Now that all the decisions are in, he’ll likely put his deposit down at U of Oregon, a school he knows he would love. And we’ve researched and visited it enough to know he would be happy and successful there. I’d still like him to visit a few of the parental faves from his options just so he’s absolutely sure, but he’s not interested. “I only want to visit LMU, maybe.” Okay.

He ended up 13-2-1 (Yes, No, Maybe) overall, so he’s content with how the process went, as are his parents. I know, I know, too many applications, right?! But we just didn’t BELIEVE he’d win so many rolls of the dice, being solidly within this thread, and with an LD, too.

^^^Best of luck with LMU, idahomom. We won’t cross paths with you on Accepted Students Day----we may go another day when it wouldn’t be so very awkward. I hope they can show your son the money!

I cannot get S to agree to revisiting Redlands, one of the parental faves. Be sure to seek out the live mascot, Thurber. He hangs our right next to the admissions office, and shows up for tours. He’s quite a handsome and charming bulldog. If you like that sort of thing, which we do…

The stress is over! (well half of it anyway). DS researched all his acceptances and decided he wants to go to Franklin and Marshall BUT he wants to defer enrollment for 1 year. He plans to work a few different jobs to get a clearer idea of what he’d like to major in-right now it’s economics. He also thinks he’ll have more confidence in a year to go to college 6 hrs away. He’s already talked to the admissions office and they were very reassuring, I guess GAP years are becoming much more common. I spoke to the FA office and they told me that provided I don’t win the lottery the FA package would stay the same or improve because I’m being laid off May 1st and my phone isn’t ringing off the hook for interviews. Such a relief to have a PLAN and not have to go through the application process again next year.

so happy to hear that your stressful situation is calming down. Gap Year is being mentioned in our house also but I don’t think it is for the right reasons.

We are down to Cal Lutheran and SDSU. D is 6-2-1. For some reason CSU Northridge hasn’t sent decisions yet. D got accepted to CSU Long Beach this week but it is not under consideration. They received 80,000 apps this year!! Yikes

Cal Lutheran is really showing the love!!! Got FA today and they threw in a Deans Award on top of the merit aid and somehow qualified D for a subdidized Student Loan. Not sure how that happened because our FAFSA shouldn’t qualify for that. Overall it’s still about $8k more than State but doable if she really wants it. Hey, anythings better then U of Denver at $30k more than State!!

I really did not think, when we started this process, that DS would have so many wonderful choices, even though he applied to a ton of schools. Thank you to everyone on this thread for all the great advice and moral support. Hope we can make a decision without too many expensive trips in the next month.
