Parents of the HS Class of 2013

Swizzle13- you sound like my D three years ago. Exactly three years ago. I feel for you. ((hugs))

After one day at the school she had to talk herself into, she was in love (with the school silly), and it was all about the new friends she made.

That’s what will happen to you at UConn. Report back in August and tell us how you couldn’t believe you had any doubt. Tell us about the new friends you made, how they make the school for you, and how you are having the ride of your life.

Oh, and you’re probably going to meet a bunch of kids with the same story you have. That’s what happened to my D. She called them their war stories.

It must have been okay, because younger D just committed to the same school, even though she was accepted to all the schools she applied to.

I guess I feel compelled to mention that I’m pulling for Louisville.

ducking

You guys are all so sweet! Thank you all so much!

YDS, I’m not watching…not a sports fan. But I’m rooting for Louisville because I became emotionally involved with the team when Ware had his injury.

Good morning! Sorry for sleeping in and shirking my waiter duties. How is everyone on the SS Indecision doing this morning? Can I get anyone a Mimosa or a Bloody Mary? Did everyone enjoy the onboard basketball entertainment yesterday? I know LDog did!!

Anyone planning on joining the waitstaff this week?

Swizzle: Good luck! Some of S2’s friends were in your position 3 years ago, and when you talk to them now, they can’t believe they ever thought of going somewhere else. I definitely wouldn’t think of it as time wasted. I don’t think of S3’s time and energy he put into the applications, essays and interviews for a couple of the schools that rejected him as time wasted. Maybe those essays and interviews helped him with the acceptances or scholarships that he did get. Or maybe it will help him somewhere down the line. I feel like everything happens for a reason and for some reason everything is pointing you to go to UConn. You can’t live your life with regrets or “what ifs”, you have to take what you get and make the best of it.

Happy Sunday!

Critter: Glad we could provide entertainment for your DH! My family just asks me if I am getting my information from that “odd group of parents on that weird board I belong to.” LOL!

Swizzle - it will be fine. UConn is a great school and you will shine there!

DD is currently visiting Tulane. DH is with her taking her to jazz clubs, having beignets at Cafe du Monde with her and now watching her walk around campus with a cute guy she met on the plane. Hmm, how is she ever going to pick UR when he is showing her all the FUN stuff in New Orleans? LOL! It will be interesting to see what she chooses and why.

On a positive note, DD’s FIRST team made it to the semi-finals, coming in second for the region. Not too shabby and something nice to mention to her WL school too. :)

A bloody mary sounds great! I’ve got a few hours to kill and am supposed to be working on financial paperwork but can’t get in the mood.

DH and S13 call you guys my imaginary friends. With the greatest respect of course. As in “would you tell your imaginary friends goodnight and get off the computer?” ;)

Still on the boat, but really not sure why. He seems unwilling to just commit on paper, though I know he has in his heart. And I keep worrying about the money, so I’m not pushing him to commit.

The college with the best offer was going to fly him out, but he had a conflict with a state convention for one of the clubs for which he’s president. They said they’d work around his schedule but then wrote back and said that because he’d have to miss so much of their programming, they would fly him out. Bummer. And his no. 1 has an offer to fly him out, but he’s busy then, too. Three weeks in a row in April he has something big happening so he can’t accept any of these offers. In good news, we’ve been invited to a reception for his no. 1 next weekend, and we can actually make it – because it’s in town and only an hour long!

Hmmmm, I think I’ll have a Jack Daniels and Coke, please. TIA.

I’m sticking to my Yuengling. The Pomona vs Swat debate continues here. Pomona seems better in so many ways, with its consortium and more options in dining, clubs, better weather, but she keeps coming back to the idea that Swat strongly promotes its community feel. I worry about the reported intensity of students at Swat, but it doesn’t bother her. I just want her to make a decision and not have any second thoughts!

mamabear, Pomona is the one I’m secretly kind of rooting for, too, but I know I’m not going to win.

YDS…I know the #1, but which others are still in play?

Mamabear…maybe she subconsciously wants to stay closer to home.

It’s really just Pomona and no. 1.

I’m glad to hear we are not the only ones feeling some indecision. I think, though, that D has made up her mind that Bucknell is where she wants to be. She has actually gotten on the accepted students facebook page (not that she would ever post anything!) and started talking about which freshman seminars look interesting, etc.

I think she is just letting us have time to reconcile to the idea that we are going to be turning down such a large scholarship offer. Also, she does know that going to Denison would certainly make things easier on her (and us) financially in the future. Oh well, I can’t really blame her, she has some very valid reasons why Bucknell is more appealing to her specifically even though we all agree that Denison would be great as well. Sigh…

That could be it, MommyDearest, and I am repeating my mantra that they are both great schools and I think she will be happy at either, so she feels no pressure from me to pick one over the other.

YDS - boo to conflicts. I’m sure that happens all the time but it doesn’t help with decisions.

momofzag - I get the struggle between best place and most money - sounds like lots of us are there. We should all get massages today! Does this boat have a spa?

Is my PC broken? Or did we really go almost 12 hours without a post? :D

Here is a great article on how to make that college choice. :)

Happy Monday, everyone! May this week bring more decisions to the undecided… D is getting more and more excited about UVA. She’s got her room-mate and is active on the Facebook page and a week from today, we go to admitted students’ day. Her brother, S14, is briefly willing to discuss schools and then shuts down again. Sigh…

Cold and dreary here, Bailey’s and Coffee anyone?

I too hope that this week brings decision for all those in lounge chairs.

Hoping for clarity this week for at least some of you still in lounge chairs. How about cheese grits, cuban toast and cafe con leche for breakfast this morning?

Hi Everyone! I just got back from spring break. I am nine pages behind so bare with me as I catch up. I’m sure there have been plenty of wonderful things going on in my absence! We are still cruising but have exciting news. I can’t wait to read what everyone has been up to!
