So by sacchi’s criteria My D is choosing between a Phoenix and a Sagehen. No contest there! I’m glad that has not factored into her consideration.

sacchi - you are correct about the Bucknell Bison! I have seen it, it is cute!

mama - LOL at the Sagehen. Sagehen!! Well, at least we all know that it could be worse. cough RISD cough

We are NOT discussing that mascot today. Happy thoughts. Other RISD name drops.

And, apropos of some other CC threads today, “Facts are useless in emergencies.”

Mascots: I finally googled RISD’s mascot and i am pretty horrified. I generally like “bears” as mascots, but Cal’s Oski is a little creepy looking [California Golden Bears - Traditions](http://www.calbears.com/trads/cal-m-fb-mas.html) I guess I prefer Joe Bruin (and Josie) [Mascot Monday: Joe and Josephene Bruin | KC College Gameday - In Austin](Mascot Monday: Joe and Josephene Bruin | KC College Gameday)

Right, I could not resist. I looked it up (without coffee in my hand). What’s the rumpus about this RISD mascot? Oh! OK! It’s a squid!! Hmmmm. It’s a very interesting squid… Ooooooooh.

HitoWaMom- it’s a squid…yeeess…thaaat’sss it… a squid… OK that’s our story! Let’s stick to it.

Thanks SomeOldGuy - keep it rolling.

Some people on here are way too creative. Thanks to all with confessions of incomplete decorations - I’m really hoping for a beach bon fire.

On the what to do at the party subject - For older D’s 18th she had a choice between taking several friends to Disneyland or a big house party with a bouncer. In discussing the choice with her closest friends - who happen to be boys - one was adamant for Disneyland. A few days later she asked him why Disneyland over a party with a bouncer. Boy says, Well I don’t understand why you need a bouncer your Dad can take any of us if we get out of hand. D says, Hey dummy the kind you jump in. Boy, Oh in that case! *We had a terrific party at the house with a bouncer! 18 or not they do love bouncers - and pinatas. (It was a Roman toga party with a lion pinata - we rented preschool tables because they’re low and the kids sat on pillows at the low tables for BBQ) Oh and I spent an offensive amount of money on the cake - possibly where DD13 got the idea to become a baker.

This cruising is making me very lazy! Once again I am about two pages behind, so if this has already been discussed, please forgive me.

The Common App recently announced their new prompts for next year. This is the great thing about multiples… I don’t have to worry about that! ;)

Okay, so glad that I set my soda down before curiosity killed me. Too funny!

They’re doing away with “topic of your choice”? WHAAAAARRRRGGGAAAAARRRRRBBBBBBBLLLLL. Kid #2 is NOT going to like that.

I don’t think D1 would have gotten into either NU or Emory with those essay choices. In fact, if you pick up a book of “great college essays”–you’ll find kids comparing themselves to used cars, satires of Doestoevsky, Modest Proposals, etc. The topics they will now allow will be severely limiting to creative types, and make the work of assessment even more boring for admission counselors.

I’m just glad this didn’t happen last year.

Whew! The “thread that shall not be named” has finally been locked.

Congrats, octoberdana!

That’s what I think, pounce… but I don’t know what to tell him - {SCHOOL X} is his dream school and {SCHOOL Y} is his safety! Who was it who said “love thy safety”??? (just kidding, mostly).

swizzle - sounds like a great visit to UConn - I’m glad you’re already finding out things to be excited about!

momofzag - I think we are almost in the same place. Possibly it’s just a sudden realization that it’s “really truly” a done deal after the decision. I told S13 to get as much sleep as possible this weekend so he can be more fresh and look at it next week. He’s only got work, orchestra rehearsal, a practice AP exam and a correspondence course to finish, so it’s a fairly light weekend

DDHM - I’ll have you know that I did full justice to my name before I picked up the little full-time job… Kid’s parties from scratch with “pin the glasses on Harry Potter” and Pokemon Twister… :D

S13 said he’d rather have my dad/step-m at his orchestra concert than graduation, so the family party just got smaller. Step-m has another grandkid graduating this spring and I think it’s very close to ours, so it worked out well.

Finally the weekend! Too busy, still, but yay anyway!

SomeOldGuy - Are you taking requests? I’d like to send Crosby Stills Nash & Young’s “Teach Your Children” to Confetti.

Confetti - Maybe I was wrong about asking…clearly wiser than I say don’t ask them why. Just know they love you! The reason a safety is a safety is they’ll be happy there, too. They’re all blessed to have choices.

It’s five o’clock somewhere, right? Can I get a maragrita, please? TGIF!

Just looked at the essay prompts. My daughter dodged that bullet! She’s not a writer and barely wrote an essay when given free reign. She would start out rebelling and complaining for a month before she actually started writing.

I’m working on my menu for the graduation party. Since it’s from 3-6 PM on a Sunday, i want to stick with finger foods. I just found a recipe for pinwheel mini sandwiches. I like the idea and will do a practice run tomorrow to see if they are feasible. I’ll have the obligatory bowl of chips, and I know I could have veggies and dip, but I’d like something a little more imaginative than veggies and dip. Any ideas? Remember it’s got to be finger food.

The family thinks we should have the colors of the college on the cake, instead of the colors of the high school. Since one is blue and white and the other is blue and gold, I’m thinking of doing it half and half.

Fly me - My most popular finger food ever is - Bisquick drop biscuits but with diced pepperoni and grated cheddar cheese in the mix. Super easy to make ahead in the morning and zap to reheat. The guys loved them. I had pizza sauce for dipping - but they didn’t, just gobbled.

I will have some champagne before my big announcement :)

LADIES AND GENTLEMAN…WE HAVE A DUKE ROBERTSON SCHOLAR IN THE HOUSE !
!!!
!!!

(I am just a bit excited, apologies for shouting )
:)

Oh I forgot to mention…those drop biscuits are made small. I used a regular teaspoon (the kind you eat with - not the measuring kind) so they cook in about 5 minutes so it’s easy to make a ton. I served them in a big bowl, like chips.

One more finger food - warning notice to any diabetics … don’t even read this - Apple dippers but instead of Carmel sauce you can make a cream cheese dip… 16 oz cream cheese, 1 cup brown sugar, 6 Heath bars - crushed. (Well, you’ll only get 5 to crush because your husband will steal one.) Mix those three ingredients up the day before and refridgerate over night. Nom!

So Kelowna has a decision been made?

Yay! Kelowna! Wow! That is worth shouting about!!! Cheers!

Congratulations to all of you with decisions made!! How I envy you :)

At least DS has narrowed it down to 2 - Ursinus and Wheaton (MA). He doesn’t want to visit them again, says he’ll figure it out somehow (but, to his credit, is doing more research on them).

DD still has 5 on her plate, and I’m afraid one is trying to crawl back on.

Maybe I should look at the mascots. Hard to beat mine, though, because I’m a Bruin.
