Parents of the HS Class of 2013

Amazon Prime has 30 day free period and they charge $79/year. Well worth it for me. I just had a bike shipped over two days- no tax and no shipping fee. I am not even mentioning the books !

D has prom on Saturday night and doesn’t graduate until June 11th. She seems to be busy with some film projects that aren’t done due to procrastination.

I have been talked into a Seniors Grad Party with DJ, etc. Lord help me, I am already trying to round up big bad bouncers that will peruse the perimeter and kick out the trouble makers, sniff out alcohol, search the bushes for hidden bottles, etc. Luckily I can keep everyone outside for the party, have a large contained yard. We just finished putting up string lights EVERYWHERE so there aren’t any hidden dark corners. God bless the neighbors, they are in for a long night.

It is supposed to be limited to 50, seniors only and invitation only. So far she has 72 RSVPs and counting. With cell phones and texts - we are going to have to put some major parent presence at the front of the house.

Kelowna: And you can extend an invitation for up to 4 family members to enjoy Amazon Prime for free  Totally agree it is worth it – I just got a new water filter for our refrigerator – it was 8 bucks cheaper on Amazon versus Lowe’s.

I know I have asked this before, and I’m sorry if I missed it, but where did unicameral decide to go? I just tried to send her a PM and it won’t accept it. I’m curious!!! Unicameral are you out there?..

Nobody knows. The last we heard she was fighting with her father about where she would go.

I really wish she’d check in.

Tomorrow is the big day!! Graduation! Praying that it does not rain because we graduate outside on the football field!!

Good luck, Sophie! We have a week to go yet.

Two weeks until graduation here. The good news - the grade hole has been filled! Whew.

Awards ceremony last night was nice. Principal was funny when she invited the parents to come right up in front of the stage to take pictures. The line of kids on the stage groaned and squirmed and she told them to get over it and just think this is the last time your parents will get to embarrass you like this. There were smiles all around.

Thanks to all who posted the info on the meal plans. We have heard the meal plans at UCD are all you can eat, but beware if they have a cup of tea and a cookie - and leave that’s a meal. So that’s something to look into. I cautioned DD13 to just use the meal tickets for whole meals and snack elsewhere. I think we’ll get the minimum and add -on as necessary as there is no price break.

Camping this weekend…with teens who have never camped. Should make for some amusement watching these girls put up a ten man tent.

I am going to send D13 with 2 mom-approved business outfits…I forgot that we needed to buy a few for D11 freshman year for a couple of different events.

Checking in. DS has been gone a week in DC and I have figured out that getting used to an empty nest is going to be harder than I thought. He comes home tonight. Next week we have 3 banquets and prom is next weekend.

Unicameral: I think someone figured out she is going to MIT. At least that is what I remember.

Prom night tonight. D1 hated her hair, wore no jewelry, didn’t do her nails. She still looked pretty boffo, though.

tx5athome–the person who thought he/she had figured it out didn’t really have any basis for the claim. Uni’s last post was about she and her father fighting over where she should go.

Good morning parents! I haven’t been here in ages, but wanted to drop in and send congratulations to everyone celebrating graduations.

DD has 3 more weeks til graduation but things are definitely winding down.

Good luck to Drmom’s D, and anyone else still on waiting lists - fingers crossed for admittances, or with feeling the love for deposited schools - either way it’s a win. :)

DD will be leaving for college in 10 weeks!!!

Graduation is in the books! DS did an awesome job delivering his speech:) We were so proud of him and he was flooded with warm congratulations afterwards from his peers!! We graduate in the football stadium and it was filled to capacity! It rained all afternoon and at the very start of the ceremony it was still drizzling so they delayed (while we sat in the rain under umbrellas) for about 40 minutes. Once the weather cleared it was a perfect night! Nice and cool with low humidity which is so rare this time of year down in FL!! After pictures, we headed to the all night party at the Y. It was great! Laser Tag, mechanical bull, basketball, dancing , swimming, casino and on and on. We came home at 4:30 a.m. and I am up and editing pictures from last night!! Whew!!

All done and looking at Longhorn Burnt Orange for DS!

Prom, graduation, finals…ah…let the summer begin.

Great to see you again, Anniezz. Congrats to your DS, Sophie and Lola. So glad it was a great night.

Not checking in as obsessively as before, because D13 is my last kid. Wow, have to find a replacement for College Confidential now. Good luck to all and have a wonderful summer.

I’m working on a photo book for a HS graduation present for D. I had done one 3 years ago for S, and it was a HUGE amount of work, trying to fit 18 years of life into one book of less than 100 pages. I’ve been busy lately and wasn’t sure that I would make one for D, but last week she had her brother’s book out, and asked if I was doing one for her. S’s book was a big hit at his graduation party.

I think it is even harder this time, since there are just so many pictures to choose from. Certain events could easily take up 10 pages, but I’m trying to fit them into 1-2 pages. The pre-digital camera photos are the worst - I’m busy scanning in the background as I organize the pages.

Whew, S2’s recital is done!! It was wonderful - over an hour of delightful entertainment done in a way only our S can do. Operatic arias, musical theater numbers, video game theme songs and High School Musical (he sang the Gabriella part and his best girl friend sang Troy). His voice teacher even wrote a new show piece especially for S, which we had never heard. We had about 40-50 at the actual recital and reception and then 10 family members for dinner at local restaurant. An exciting day, but I am exhausted. We are all sprawled on the couch watching Food Network!

It’s all downhill from here. Exams on Monday - Thursday and graduation on Sunday. Even though S2 doesn’t have to take exams, he has to be physically present so he’s decided to take his laptop and play WoW all day. Public schooling at its best, but only 4 more days of it.

Prom Happening now! So Beautiful…once all the stress of dressing up for it was done! DD did turn down one WL offer for the current “deposited school”…She is still on the other WL’s for now…but, you know what…I bet she decides to stay at the one she’s at(but ya never know!)… until I know for sure…you guys won’t know either!

sacchi-- I’m right there with you scanning, scanning and more scanning! I am putting together a “slide show”-- meaning a continuous loop powerpoint that will play on our TV during the graduation Open House. The weather forecast expects it to be 108 degrees that day! Ugh. Once I get all these photos scanned, I like the idea of a photo book. Maybe I can do that for their Christmas gifts when they come home from college.

I have a different idea for DS’ s Open House. We live in the woods, I am planning to have just a few blown up pictures of him pinned to threes and illuminated. No time for anything more fancy…
