Parents of the HS Class of 2013

Congrats to Jazzii and all the other kids feeling confident about APUSH! S still isn’t back from Euro – he probably went out to celebrate again!

This year S had AP Physics, Art History, and European History. Next year is:
AP Lit
AP Calc
AP Chem (which is also dual credit)
AP Comp Sci
H Econ/H Gov (school doesn’t offer AP, but he might take Macro test)
Spanish III (dual credit)
Art III

Cheers to the Frickin’ Weekend . . .

My D is “planning” (and I guess scheduled) to take: AP Bio, AP Spanish Lit, AP English Lit, AP Calc BC , and AP American History. She took AP Euro in sophmore year, AP psych this year. the AP american history class is a lot of work and she had crazy math and physics this year, so opted to do the american next year…who knows. I think all of it is too much. She may drop BC and go to AB if she cannot keep at least a B+ for final grade this year in math. She also wants to take a 1/2 year organic chemistry class but i am tryin got talk her out of it. Really, I think she overloads herself. I am so glad it is Friday. Happy Friday to all of you!

Next year class schedule:

AP Lit
AP Psych (he has been trying to fit this in since 9th grade!)
AP Music Theory (um, he can’t read music and plays by ear…)
Physics honors
Latin V honors
Band
required rotation - senior project/ethics/religion

The only other AP offered that he hasn’t taken is AP Chem. He’d rather have Physics.

notice no math

Self study (cough, cough…I think he is overly optimistic and may change by next year)
AP Calc BC (took AB this year)
AP Physics (school doesn’t offer AP Physics)
AP Latin (school doesn’t offer AP Latin)

S is IB diploma candidate and can only take AP’s if they don’t interfere with IB.

IB English HL
IB Biology HL
IB World History HL
IB Math (HL/SL) not sure but leaning toward SL
IB Art (SL)
AP Psych

He has taken Spanish 5 so no language left to take.

Sounds like your kids are doing well today! Fingers crossed to all!

RobD thanks for starting this thread! Love going through this with you all. When you said DH are you female? I keep thinking you are Rob.

Tx5athome-love the prom idea! So cute. One at UCLA, one maybe going for whatever reason, love it…I am silently doing my “8 CLAP”! Once a bruin always a Bruin I guess!

Blueshoes- my kids use the work beast in many forms and I had to laugh at your D “beasted” the test.

Yikes, senior AP’s (3)

AP Lit
APES
AP Studio Art 3D
Creative Writing
Am Gov (can’t take both AP Lit and AP comp gov/econ)
Teacher Education (asked by her idol mentor teacher)
**Already taken college Psych, so no AP Psych.

NO MATH- Already done APStats this year, not going back to AP Calc and Adv Math topics below stats, didn’t know that, oops! A 4th AP would be too much for our time management disabled girl during busy senior year. We never saw her this year with 4 AP/H and we miss her!

Now I am stressed she isn’t doing enough plus she is going to be a Senior in a month. )8

MDmom, Walker and Steve “KNOCK,KNOCK…Bourbon!” Can I wedge in the closet, I’ll bring the Jello Shots!

Anniezz, good for you for taking a day off work, sometimes you just need to step back and breathe, don’t you? Hang in there. Tx5athome, I loved the prom story, really sweet, I hope the friend says yes. Our prom update, having just gotten back from dropping off my son – not only is liquor served, it’s open bar from 11-12:30am, you gotta love Europe. What I actually found more funny was that my son went with his buddies, not with his girlfriend of over a year – “who wants to wait for the girls to get all dressed up? They’re all going together to make a late entrance”…!! And Walker1194 wins the prize for tonight’s laugh of the evening (the Bourbon Closet could be the new Class nickname…). Longhaul came in a close second  Have a great weekend!

Anniezz, keeping you and your daughter in my thoughts.

Sounds like a lot of good energy around the APUSH exam. D thought it was ok. She was all smiles heading off to a friend’s house to get dressed for the band banquet. So nice to see a smile and positive energy again.

Hope it’s a walkin closet with room for one more!

D plays two varsity sports and and also needs to reserve time for violin practice, so I have limited her to four APs. She took four this year as well along with two honors sciences and it has been a demanding courseload with the ecs. Next year’s AP schedule is AP Chem, AP Calc BC, AP Lit, and AP Stat. Like wherenext, I’m hoping I might get to have more conversations with her next year.

Anniez: I hope you get good news on your daughters health soon!

Here only seniors can skip exams if they have at least a B in the class.

My S said the AP Lit exam went really well except he didn’t think he did great on his poetry essay.

He took AP Lang and AP World last year and got 4s. This year is AP Lit, AP Chem and AP Gov. Next year AP Bio, AP Psych, AP Calc, APUSH. But he told me that I don’t need to pay for his classes by the end of this school year (which has been the norm) and can wait until next Oct. because they are expecting lots of scheduling conflicts…great. He had to take Spanish III on-line because of scheduling conflict this year and it hasn’t gone as smoothly as I hoped. I am amazed at all of the APs offered out there. S will have taken everything offered at our hs except AP Art.

Until today D was planning to do a dual credit math class but now has been told that she has to finalize her request to the high school by Monday but, since we don’t know AP scores yet, the college won’t confirm her registration. Dual enrollment is promoted by the school district but they can’t seem to accomodate the differing enrollment schedules. ughh!

So, at the moment, it looks like it will be AP Stats, AP Bio, AP Physics C, AP Lit, German III (couldn’t fit it in the schedule this year), dual enrollment Music Theory for non-majors, and band.

D13 is taking

Honors Calc
Honors Spanish 4
Honors Eng
AP Psych
AP Gov
Religion
Econ/Marketing

No science…she took a dual enrollment physics class this year and she is done.

S’13 is taking next year:
AP Lit
AP Gov (was hoping to take dual credit over the summer, but music festivals got in the way)
AP Music Theory
Earth and Space (science credit)
Show Choir
Varsity Choir
Theatre IV
Theatre Production

Wherenext: Perfect! I already planned on bringing the Rum ;

From the looks of all our postings…our kids are going to be VERY BUSY next year.
Hopefully we can remind them to have one in awhile, I mean…it IS their Sr year.

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Thanks everyone for the good wishes.

It sounds like everyone had a decent day with APUSH, so that’s great news!

Walker, make room in that closet for me - and I’m bringing my own bottle!
Tx5, I love the prom story, what a thoughtful kid you have!
earthmother, I hope your son has a great time. DS is at university in the UK - very different attitudes about alcohol - I think it actually results in less drinking since it’s not the big taboo thing.

As for next year’s APs, DD is taking:
AP Euro History
AP Bio
AP Calc
Honors English
Advanced Woodworking
Art (grad. requirement)

With sports, applications etc, I think that will be plenty. Another year of foreign language is still a possibility, but DD really wants to avoid it.

I’m jealous of all of your schools that exempt finals. Our HS only exempts seniors, and only IF they take the AP exam for the class, AND they have As for every marking period and for the mid-term.

I think those of you who want to join me in the closet might have to join me in the basement instead. It’s really big and has a bathroom. And a bar. Maybe we all just need to start mainlining the liquor right now. Who needs a liver anyway?

Next years schedule features the following stress inducing in May APs: bio, psych, lit, and Stats. Also in the mix are dual enrollment (let’s have a new abbreviation, shall we? DE) English, regular calculus, creative writing, choir, theatre (something about directing, idk), Anatomy and Physiology, teacher aide, study hall. I don’t know if I’ve missed something. Probably. Not exactly slacking, but not as horrendous as junior year. Thank God. I’m all for taking it a little easier because of musicals, sports, ECs, the audition cycle and college apps.

I don’t want to think about senior portraits. I’m putting my shrink on speed dial. Oh wait, that’s right… I live with him.

any of your kids finding thier friends starting to grow apart? DD just went out to a school program, just didnt feel “welcome”…so she left after 1/2 hour or so…our school doesnt end till late June, so we have lots more school and lots more drama. I’ll meet you all in the basement, it sounds great!

Walker…moving it down to the basement! Perfect! Okay, dual enrollment is a bit mysterious to me. We can only do it if the class is not offered at the HS. How can your child survive 12 including 4 AP classes, driving to the college and EC’s?

I might have to find the basement corner for parents of slacker kids (: Although she seems more on the ball than most, my D can just about handle 6 classes (4 weighted) with EC’s, sports and travel. She does want to dual enroll for Latin, since her school does not have it, but the CC does not offer Latin.

I asked earlier but doe anyone know a good online Latin course?

Earthmother, love your prom story. Fill us in when you get details!

Anniezz which school is you DS in? My D is looking at UK schools since it is my homeland (:

MDmom- Rum works for me(: TGIF!

DRMom - S usually goes out after school on Friday and today came home. He said he is just tired of the kids and needs a break from them. We only have 10 days of school left and I’m not sure we could take much more. All the kids are going different directions this summer so hopefully by next year they won’t all still be tired of each other.

No normal high schooler would take 12 classes! Lol… I have twins! There are some overlapped classes in there, just too boring to divide it up into DD13a and DD13b.

Even though we are done with school next week, I still have to survive the rest of my DHs MBA program, a production of Hairspray and my DD13b’s BFF moving (the bff’s mother passed away in March; awful).

Oh, and my MOTHER IS COMING FOR THREE WEEKS. Happy Mother’s Day!!!

Saw S’13 in passing (he was heading out on a date). I asked about APUSH and he looked over his shoulder and said “Nailed it!”. So I think Mr. Confident thinks it went well…

next year classes:
AP Lit
AP Stat
AP Euro
AP Physics
AP French
AP Micro/Macro (1 semester each)
Student Instructor in Writing Lab (this counts as a class)

Sounds like a fun basement.
