Congrats to everyone and all their acceptances. I am SO JEALOUS!!! DD has yet to finish CA or any of her 12 applications. She did manage to send out her SAT scores today though, so there is something.

Youdontsay- I think its great that you are encouraging your son to take a risk, and not let fear of rejection cause him to settle for lower goals. As you said, he doesn’t need to get into 9 schools like his brother did - no one needs nine aceeptances. You just hope for THE ONE.

DD had a great OV this weekend. She really loved the school, the team and the coach, but I’m not sure if its “the one.” She is going next weekend to a very different school, and I think seeing them back-to-back will really help her decide. Two other recruits from this past weekend will be at the same school next weekend, so they have “bonded” and are having fun.

Almost forgot Swizzle…You have the right attitude and You are doing the right thing…Keep doing it :)

Thanks for the encouragement, all. Carla, you’re right – he only needs one yes, and he’ll have that soon.

The good news is we’re looking at his Questbridge app as a whole, and all the essays are coming into focus. Two are good to go, and getting those finished has helped sharpen focus on the other two. Yes, four essays and 12, I think, short-answer questions are part of this one app.

Thanks to all for the congratulations! Happy day here in the L’dog family : - )

Big congrats to Terinzak for the acceptance to Utah State!! Hooray!

And…I’d like to agree with SteveMA - No kids allowed in the basement!! (Sorry Swizzle.) We have to have some place private to assume the turtle position when it all becomes too much.

Good luck to all of the Lucky '13er families awaiting the ACT scores from the last sitting. May The Odds Be Ever In Your Favor!!

Long-time lurker & occasional poster here - from Parents of HS Class 2015 thread. Congrats on all the acceptances and good luck to those w/students who learn ACT results in a few hours!

I’ve learned so much from this thread (thank you!) and hope I can help educate my DS15 (the 1st of 4 kids) about the college selection & app process. There were a few posters way upthread (Rob D being one, I think), who talked about compiling advice for students & parents as they navigate this wacky world of doing well in HS, surviving ACT/SAT, finding good-fit colleges & applying to those colleges, etc. If this advice manual ever comes to fruition, I’m pretty sure it would be a big hit - and much-appreciated - over in our Parents thread. There are some real experts here (& students - love to read about Swizzle’s success, for example), so please know that your advice & key learnings would benefit lots of Newbie parents & students.

Thanks and, again, best of luck to each of your students in the coming weeks & months.

Many successes to be happy about from this weekend thus far: good visits by parents and students, progress on essays, acceptances in hand (Pitt, Utah State, and others I missed), scholarship apps in the works, essays in progress, homework getting done despite the additional workload with apps and all, plus sports and other ECs, great advice about waiting to visit the HMFRes and others, i.e. potentially unaffordable, until all info is in hand, prepping for the SAT, not letting “evil teachers” ruin senior year, anything else I missed, and finally, Walker’s basement!!!

Just three more hours until ACT scores should be posted…I’ve told our D that no matter what, it simply doesn’t matter if her composite doesn’t go up. She worked really hard, and if it doesn’t I’ll just be frustrated for her due to the time she spent. She did much better than I ever did on her results already, and already has a composite that meets her #1 school’s requirement for their highest scholarship, but she (we) are hoping for a few points higher to help with merit aid…we will soon know :)

So - Good Luck to all the Lucky 13ers logging in at midnight CST tonite, or perhaps tomorrow May the odds be EVER IN YOUR FAVOR!! Wishing good thoughts for all! Peace out :D

Congrats on the Pitt acceptances (and others, too). S13 still has not hit send on a single application. Maybe this week?

Rochester: they have some interesting programs; nice size, supposed to have decent merit $$. As far as winter goes: underground tunnels connect everything so if it is really snowy you can still get around. I think this last year was fairly mild.

Re the tunnels at Rochester - they connect some things, but only a few are open. They don’t connect the dorms to anything, so you’ll have to go out. My sister and I were just talking about schools in the really cold places - she had no idea what they were talking about when her college told her about the tunnels at her MN college… until she got there and learned what 40 below really meant! Brrrr!

welcome BerneseMTN and Thank you GoASKDAD—You will all survive this too. But while we all go through it…Ya just don’t know that!
Congrats to all the acceptances. Hope all others (including my DD) get themselves to type up and push the SEND button soon…Good Luck to the ACT results. I’m going to sleep. Funny thing, I don’t think my DD knows the ACT results may be out tomorrorw…and I don’t know if I want to tell her!

My dd put in two college applications last week. One to a safety school and one to a school that we haven’t visited yet but seems like a good fit.

She is applying to 3 state schools this week and those ones I’m pretty nervous for. Two of the three are reaches. 2nd semester of her Junior year she did not have a good GPA and I’m so worried that they are going to look at that and deny her.

Well, we didn’t meet the goal of pushing the button tonight. One essay just needed too much work. Individual sentences or paragraphs were fine, but it just didn’t flow. I’m not keen on the next one either, but I don’t want another night like tonight so I’ll just let him be happy with it as is.

Well. I just got my ACT scores back. I got the same score I got in June (25). I’m content with that. In all honesty, I was expecting to do worse. As I said in a previous post that I made a few days ago, my scores don’t define me. Personally, I think that a 25 is a really good score. Yes, it could have been better, but I’m happy with the way I performed.

Now, my next question is, since I received the same score on both tests, is it necessary to send out this time around’s score too? I received higher scores overall the first time I took the test than I did this time around. This time around I received one point lower in each section with the exception of science, where I scored the same each time (which is still a surprise to me. A good one, though!).

All of my schools practice score choice (I think, I’m pretty sure all of them do at least), and I don’t see the point in sending out this month’s scores when last month’s are slightly better. Any help, rents?

Swizzle- I would think if the scores are the same then there’s no value in sending them again. More experienced 'rents might have more insight. :)

Swizzle–Unless your new tests give you a higher superscore, no real reason to send them, doesn’t sound like that is the case.

Swizzle…You have a Great Attitude and that is one of the most important things in life…don’t send the new scores and just keep doing what you have been doing … :)

Wow, Pitt acceptances already! Gotta get D to finish her essay so she can submit her app there. She hasn’t done her NMSF essay yet either. She did have a good sports visit this weekend to a school that had not been on her list until she met the coach this summer at a camp. Definitely moved up the list - nice team members, easier to get into than some on her list, and merit aid possibility. Two more visits to go in October yet.

Congrats to Lauren and the other new Pittsburg acceptances.

The ACTs are up. S did not improve on his single attempt composite score, but for those few schools that superscore the ACT, he did get a new composite of 34. He got a 35 in English. :)

I know our state flagship superscores the ACT. I wonder if Bama does.

Got DD’13 ACT scores (except writing). She did the same in English and Reading and better in Math (+2) and Science (+5). Composite is a solid 32.

Oh how I wish UVA would give EA decisions in Dec instead of late Jan.

Dragonfly…I heard the science was Very Tough…that’s great it went up 5 points…and a 32 is excellent!!!
Galaxy…awesome!!!
