cromette–that is VERY good advice!!!

He has requested paper LORs for a couple scholarships. Maybe it’s how his HS instructs teachers to do it - paper LORs are given in sealed envelopes with the teachers signature across the seal. No chance of seeing them!

We are in a holding pattern until LORs and transcripts are sent to a couple/few schools. Still not sure about the dual enrollment transcripts from the college; two schools are requesting them…since they are DE, don’t they realize the grade on her HS transcript is the grade they would see on the college transcript?? Our GC said to wait to send them, but if the school is requesting them until after D decides where to go; seems to me they need them to make D’s application complete. Ugh!

Stopped by Target this morning and got a 1-1/2" memory foam - twin XL for about $7.50, and two sets of organic cotton, 225 (whatever it is - stitches/inch??) at $5.98 each. Also got two mesh laundry bags ($1.98 each) and one cotton laundry bag ($2.98). All items would have been about $70, so I saved a bunch! Planning to wrap them for Christmas…won’t D be happy about those gifts! ;)

Our kids’ teachers gave a copy (emailed really) of their letters to see if the kids wanted anything added or changed before they sent the “official” copy. I guess I don’t understand all the secrecy about the letters.

CA question I asked a few pages back–do they update your “status” on the CA site when you are accepted?

MommyDearest: Then what if he needs multiple copies - to be sent to multiple scholarship folks?

We received sealed LORs to be included in scholarship applications - but the scholarship folks did NOT require the LOR to be sealed. We promptly broke the seal, made ten color copies, and voila. Just saying.

I can think of no practical reason why you shouldn’t see what has been written EXCEPT that they don’t want kids comparing LORs together - which shouldn’t be done anyway (unethical). Think of it like a job review. Do you get to see your review? I have to SIGN mine.

SteveMA, I don’t know about the CA question. My D has been accepted, and it still shows “submitted” - so…I dunno, it might depend on the college.

actually, I did sleep last night afterall. I think I was really drained.

I don’t know whether to try and help D adapt what she wrote or ask her to start over. I’m sure she would prefer the first, but I really think she went about this all wrong. She is just trying way too hard to be brilliant and its coming out forced.

I feel soooooooo terrible that I don’t like it. I wanted to like it so much.

Sometimes parenting s-cks. I can’t stand contributing to my D’s unhappiness.

Carla, I just sent you a PM.

Carla: I missed your original post but I am assuming you read your D’s essay and It wasn’t blowing your socks off. If it helps any, my DD13b’s first two essays were HORRIBLE. She struggled and worried them to death and they came out sounding dry and bland and said NOTHING about her. We sat down and talked about random stuff that she owns or things that she has done that have meaning to her. She ended up writing a fantastic essay about her disgusting and holey jazz shoes she has worn since 6th grade. We went through about four revisions before it was done.

Here are some things I suggested to my D’s about ideas:
- small things that have big meaning or impact on your life
- The Thesaurus is your friend. Just flipping through it and making word associations helps formulate ideas (for me anyway)
- Books (or websites) of quotations. I just thumb through them when I have a major block.
- If all of the above fails, go take a long hot shower and think.

Hope this helps and I feels for ya both!

Like we don’t get enough junk emails for our kids, now we are getting some for some OTHER kid. I can hardly wait until this STOPS!!! I unsubscribed to that school…

It might be a good idea to get started on the Profile early. I called the CollegeBoard and the rep doesn’t know why it’s not asking for my wages for this year…lol. She had to escalate my inquiry and I should be getting aresponse by COB today. Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything :)

reeinaz–wouldn’t it be nice if you didn’t have to report what you earned this year :D.

Want to thank you all again for the CSS talk. It prompted me to get started this weekend and am now nearly done. It’s trickier than I expected.

Most schools S’13 is applying to don’t need it until Feb/March, but one EA school wants it Nov. 1.

I believe edits can be made for the Feb/March schools once more is known about financial situation for 2012. Is that the way you all understand it?

dadotwoboys - you can edit and send the updates application to new colleges but you can’t change what was already sent to a college. You have to update those colleges directly I think.

SteveMA - I’m still hoping they will tell me there was no error :)

YES!!! Another teacher submitted her LOR to the CA! I take back all those things I was thinking ;)

Hoping someone can help me here… With twins, do I need to complete the CSS Profile twice, once under each student’s account at Collegeboard? And then when my third child goes to college in two years, I’ll need to be completing it three times each year? How will that work with FAFSA?

I know you have to complete the FAFSA for each child, assuming the same for the CSS and yes, you will have to do that 3 times–which means remembering 3 PINS :D.

Cromette – he requests a letter for each school/scholarship as he needs them.

Steve – S’13 has only submitted to 2 CA schools - no change in status once they showed complete/downloaded. One school sent login information to their system to track the application status. No contact from the other, so S’13 emailed them to make sure they’ve received test scores, etc. Not expecting decisions for another month or two though.

S’13 just submitted his 8th application (he still has honors apps to do for 3-4 of the schools.) It only took him three weeks to write a 1,000 character paragraph. @@

Mumto3: With the FAFSA you complete it twice, but they save all your information so you don’t have to re-enter all of your information, just the info for the next kid. I am not sure about the Profile.

tx5athome—how do you save your info? You have to have separate sign-ons for each child.
