I say yes, have the GC talk to the rep, casual like, maybe looking over the list of kids that will be there and say “oh, YDS Jr is coming. I know XYZ is is first choice school”. I don’t think it is pushy at all, I agree, it is their job. I would also assume that the ad comm WANTS to hear that from the GC. I would assume that they chat before/after the sessions but I am just guessing.

DS called the Ad comm at the school with the transfer award. She was puzzled by that as well but switched everything in their system so he will now get $18,000 vs $10,000 as well as an invite for Scholar Day AND she said there is a $2000 scholarship for kids that participate in the music program as well as opportunities to get more on performance scholarships if he wants. He plays an “off” instrument (Bari Sax) so maybe. He was pretty excited. I’m excited that they keep throwing money at him. This is his #1 non-lottery schools (so probably where he will end up going) :D. She is also going to get the ball rolling for DD and get a preread for her scholarships.

Still nervous about this whole process, but I felt pretty good today at the CCM session with the adcom. There were only five kids total (supposed to be a lot more but LARGE amount of no-shows), four seniors and one junior. Of the seniors we were the only ones with a complete application package and scheduled audition. I was looking at the other kids thinking, you only have THREE WEEKS to finish and submit your app plus have all your transcripts and stuff sent!!! The Basement Dwellers should feel very good about where they are in the process as in not being completely clueless!!!

MDmom, can relate – my senior turns 17 on the 21st. I miss that fat baby in her little Hanna Anderssen tights and jumper. Guess it’s fall nostalgia time.

Congrats swizzle! And wow SteveMA, I’m pretty jealous that you have so many results back! :)

I think I have a pretty good essay worked out for the commonapp finally, I think I’m going to revise the last sentence but inspiration escapes me right now. Tomorrow the NMF app is due, so it’s about time I got this essay nailed down. I really need to get going on my EA essays… But anyway, tonight I’ll run this (hopefully final) draft by my parents and submit the NMF and Pitt apps.

OH, and in great news, I don’t have to use the cc (who I just met this year) as my “counselor” for college purposes. So the G/T counselor who I’ve worked with since middle school will be filling out my forms and writing my rec. Funnily enough, the CC was much more receptive to this idea when I proposed it via my parent’s email account than when I mentioned it to her myself… :D

napalm2013–two words… rolling admission They both need to hear back from 3 schools. DD should hear back from those by the end of the week, DS probably as well except his lottery school…April for that.

Napalm - super smart move! You should get extra credit for having more street smarts than most adults I know - and it really is a good idea to have the counselor who knows you write the rec.

YDS- another vote for talking to the guidance counselor. My suggestion is to make it easier for your GC by suggesting to her something that she should highlight in your son’s profile (like ask her to tell the ad rep about how hard is schedule was or an achievement, award, etc). In addition, your son should introduce himself and tell her something about himself that connects to the college. Do both.

SteveMA~ Loving all of the good love your twins are getting!!! Keeping my fingers crossed for the HMFR school ;)

Just rec’d a text from Jr saying that he told his Coach he was taking a few days off from Track to focus on getting his HW done on top of his Essays needed to push the button on #1. Proud of him for managing his time wisely and understanding his priorities…

Pretty sure all of these great updates on our kiddo’s deserves a toast!!!
Anyone…anyone…

Now that S has decided to apply ED, I guess he can sit on the rest of applications until he hears back. He already has enough EA and rolling applications in that we won’t be in panic mode if he isn’t accepted. I have to say that I’m really shocked. ED was never even something I thought would be a consideration.

so, just to update from my panicked questions of yesterday: the ED school my DD wants stated that if the SAT’s/ACT’s are not at the school by the time the application is in, then DD would be at a disadvantage, and that ED II would be the better way to go. DD seems fine with that. So, I am going to breath a bit; we don’t have to rush so much!

Momma, that’s a great story…
MDMom, D turned 18 last week. We were in the hospital until 7:00 the night before. I was wondering if we would still be there on her birthday. She was born at that hospital. We weren’t, and can I tell you the panic involving getting gifts? I had big plans for that birthday too…

Ds says he’ll tell the rep himself that it’s his no. 1 school. unfortunately, he has a conflict with the visit. Grrrrr. I hope he gets out of it without burning a bridge.

Just got a call from the school (pre-recorded message). They are suggesting that Seniors take next Wednesday as a College Visit day. Other students will be taking PSAT and other test. It will be counted as a field trip and not count as one of their 6 absences allowed to avoid exams.
