@kelowna: the school’s application has self-reported grades and only requires the end-of-year transcript. I have been in contact with both the teacher and the counselor, but there are new district-wide procedures that move the responsibility to our region, not just the school. Since the mistake is from her sophomore year (we just recently saw the mistake when she received her first senior year transcripts), it is a more arduous process under the new rules. The school had to file an appeal.

Carimama- if it were me, I would definitely list the grade as it should be; A and that’s what Additional Information can be used for. Write a 2-4 sentence explanation in case it’s not yet fixed. Something like, the transcript dated 10/14/2012 is incorrect. The corrected version should show an A for name of class.

I agree - list the grade as it should have been and write a VERY brief explanation.

What school is it - I am just curious…UNC is the only one I know of that has 10/15 deadline.
Best of luck! Son is back from work now to slave more on the CA ;)

@GreekMana: that’s a fabulous idea. IDK why I didn’t even think of using the “Additional Information” section for that.

I guess my only fear is that the district turns around and says, “too late, too bad, so sad.” This is one of the largest 3-4 districts in the country and they don’t really care about 1 kid like that. sigh I wish I would’ve realized to pull the transcript during junior year and check for errors. With everything being electronic, I never even kept copies of her quarterly grade reports.

Swizzle- congrats on an amazing experience.

Lacrossemom- DD is signed up for a Yale session soon. Glad to hear it was good. Sounds like your DD has been very busy this last week.

DD finally submitted her UVA application today. First one from the common app for her. Going to submit her HMFR EA hopefully by next weekend.

DD didn’t put anything in the extra information section.

William & Mary will be at her school this week. I told her to go see them but she isn’t very interested in W&M.

When people ask where she is applying we usually just say “UVA and a few other schools.” They don’t usually ask anything further.

I guess he will put in the “extra” section what he already thought about - Ap tests that did not fit in the regular space and link to his EC that are “viewable” :)

catching up on posts - wonder why D hasn’t gotten any T-shirts or ‘call me maybe’ letters from Chicago, when some of you have gotten 2! The last thing they sent her, dated Oct 1, was a poster of the school with the city in the background. She did pick up a T-shirt last October at their open house, maybe she showed too much interest, should instead play hard to get? Not feelin’ the Chicago love here!

It sounds like many of your children are attaching resumes to the common ap? Is that to elaborate more on the listed activities, or list more? I think my D was just planning to fill out the activities section and leave it at that, now I am wondering if she should elaborate more than the one line they provide. This thing is not anywhere near done.

kelijake- you are very welcome. Folks here are so helpful…it is nice to be of help now and then.

carimama- I was just going to suggest the report card for verification. Rats. I hope you can get it fixed, but definitely report the right grade and explain. I’m sure they will believe you. You would not believe the problems that have had to be fixed on our kids’ transcripts. Last year we even ended up with a trip to the asst superintendent’s office over it, but it was really important, for very selective summer programs. It has been very comical and very painful. Sorry you have to deal with this stress so last minute.

Additional information-
Extra sibling, extra test scores that would not fit. Explanation of odd course load…lots of independent things not shown on transcript. Short blurb about odd grading/ranking (backed up by teacher’s rec-the school counselor sure doesn’t want to explain why everyone avoids the AP and honors courses, etc). More info on summer stuff. D’10 also had some extensive ECs she touched on. S’13 had a research abstract. Probably about 1 1/2 pages. Tried to keep it brief. If they want to read it , they can and I’m sure if not it will just be ignored. Didn’t really elaborate, just added where something additional needed to be addressed.

Early apps- S has all of his done, plus two safeties and one other. Not bad since he just wrapped up his regular fall sports season (many 5-6 hour after school days with travel time) brag alert with a perfect record. Nice way to go out as a senior and now only district and team party left this week and then back to finish applications. (Believe it or not, state is in the spring for a couple of the fall sports-not that he will be one of the top 16 in our state anyway! Actually, all things considered, that’s probably a good thing, given what will be going on for all of us in the spring.)

Spring sport here in addition to the fall sport - that’s why I have spent 4 of the last 5 weekends driving to colleges for visits. Probably also helps explain why the apps aren’t done!

Mamabear - our additional info she listed how she wasn’t allowed to go to summer away camps and was unable to secure regular summer employment due to summer visits with her dad. She took online classes and tutored some college kids to help with school expenses (yearbook, club dues, math trips, etc) instead. Seriously as long as the paragraph I just wrote. LOL

Critter - I wish I would’ve read your post before she submitted. I’ll have to remind her to explain weird course load and reasoning for online courses on her CA/HMFR apps. And I just realized her current online courses are NOT on her transcript yet either!! Agh!!! <insert head="" slap="" here=""></insert>

Thanks for the ideas everyone!!! She ultimately decided to leave the B listed on the self-reported transcript and she attached the current transcript explaining, as suggested, what transpiring in the explanation section. She listed the corrected class rank percentile and unweighted GPA indicating she’d provide the updated transcripts ASAP. whew APP SUBMITTED!

Next up: two Super-HMFRs EA and scholarship stuff before all the regular admission HMFRs. Besides test prep, It’s all luck from this point forward. LOL!!!

mamabear-

Wow, I feel your pain! S used to do sports year round but both of our boys went to just fall in HS. It’s great not to have to worry about sports commitments at the end of the semesters/year and things usually start out slow, academically in the fall. Plus, there are academic things they just couldn’t do if they were doing sports in the winter and spring. The other problem would be with basketball, which so owns the guys year round that summers would be messed up as well. Tough choices. As it is S is in charge of a couple of ECs that have been running a month, mostly without him, but the advisor really wants him in charge, so he makes it work. I try to stay out of it (and to not think about it-or I get brain overload!) I’m just ready to make the last trips up the highway for district. We tell our kids when they are seniors we will try to get to everything. (Seemed reasonable with the first one, ten years ago. Guess we’re getting old and tired!) And yet, it is sad to see things come to a close for the last time. So many ‘lasts’ during the senior year.

Oh, and S, of course, does not want to apply to any colleges within weekend driving distance. So he has seen his schools on this coast…we are quite a distance from most places. How about you? He will get to visit a few (affordable places) after he is accepted. Those criteria should help narrow things down quite a bit!

carimama-
We cross posted. Maybe she could send her weird course load info in an email? They will likely print it out and add it to her file-I know that at least they do so at some colleges. S listed his current non-HS classes on the courses taken section and just put where and how he is taking them. It gets really fun to predict what will be offered/taken later in the year so there are some notations like ‘if offered/if available/time permitting’ but the last thing you want to do is to misrepresent in any way. (Don’t slap yourself too hard. This is kid #4 so we have dealt with odd circumstances before and we still have to get creative at times.)

The LOR and CA problem is two of the teachers have completed their portion but the forms aren’t submitting. It still just says “started.” One shows started 10/4 and one says 10/10. Her third teacher shows submitted. I emailed CA, but the response was vague and generic. I am going to forward the email on to the two teachers in hopes it will help them. Like I said, one of them isn’t quite as important as the other one is. If you could just TALK to someone at CA, it sure would be nice!

Walker, the plan is to call CMU today to let them know what’s going on. I thought CA was supposed to make the process easier!

Dragonfly, again the girls are twins. D isn’t interested in W&M either though she feels like she should apply. Don’t know if she really will, her four top will all be done EA and adding more seems silly… But that’s my take. Who knows. I wish she would finish the UVA one. Still has one essay to go. Hope the other is approved by her English teacher today ( although I’m not sure I care too much. I think it’s her all the way).

@ carimama. Re online courses, would they appear on the transcript if they are in progress or only when they are completed?

I am thinking it could be the later, you may however want to check into that for confirmation and maybe this will be one less thing to worry about.

The kids got asked about 20 times this weekend where they are going to college…well, it’s a little early for that since they haven’t heard back from all of their schools yet. :D. Most of that is just being out of touch with how the process works. The kids did comment that a lot of their friends are getting stressed out because they haven’t applied anywhere yet-heck one friend is going on his first visit next week. I think they are glad we pushed them to get this done so early.

Today is senior day for my D’s fh team…the last time she will play hockey on her home field in hs. I spent a good portion of yesterday baking and decorating cookies for the girls. The seniors will be introduced and as each one is escorted across the field by her parents, she is regaled with her list of accomplishments/honors. Unfortunately, it is looking like it might be a washout as rain has been forecast for later in the day. D needs it to rain next Thursday for the district championship because she has to attend all county orchestra!! Not today!!

Due to all the activities associated with Homecoming this weekend, D did not finish the last short essay for her UVA supplement. She wrote it and then promptly discarded it because she had just not articulated her idea well. She has another idea now that better reflects her knowledge in a more familiar area. Her other essays are great, this one short supplement essay has caused her some angst though. I really think she is over thinking it, but this is her process and she has to go through it. Hopefully by this weekend, the early action apps will be submitted. Worried whether the ACT scores were sent(they were sent last month) and would like her to submit, so she will be able to see if everything meets up on the other side. She has heard of others whose scores were never received…

Nice. DD’13 just got a fee waiver in the mail from Cornell U. We definitely can use it. I’m figuring on $500+ in app fees this year.

Also some random college love. Hum come to think of it, as much mail (books) as she has gotten from UChicago, DD didn’t get a shirt either.

Just got off the phone with Carnegie Mellon. She was wonderful! We will be mailing in the two LORs that won’t post through CA. Whew…what a relief!

Aww, Blueshoe, I’m doing a sun dance for your D! I heard rain today too but so far, no rain. Maybe you’ll get lucky. That short response isn’t working for my child either.
No Chicago t-shirts here either, but I’ll give them credit for very cool mailings in general!
