Thank you, wahoo! Sun dance today, rain dance next Thursday! No Chicago t-shirt here either, despite mailings every other day.

@critter & learninginprogress - yes, they’re online classes through our state’s virtual school which don’t actually transfer to her home HS until the course is done. That’s why I should’ve reminder her to list that under the “additional comments” section. Oh well. I’ll have her email the school with the extra info and expected completion dates. They will be A’s also (she’s almost done with the 3 courses). The other strange circumstance (she’s the first in her school to do this) was that she is a year ahead in English so she doesn’t have any English/Language Arts classes this year.

@SteveMA - I feel your pain!!! my grandpa asks D nearly every day she’s there if she’s figured out where she’s going to collegeyet. LOL!!! Same situation here and they figure she’s smart with a 4.0 so she can go whereever she wants, but that’s not the situation as we all know.

@blueshoe - good luck to your D on her last day of FH! What a bittersweet day. I’m dreading my daughter’s last game and meet. :(

@uga - isn’t it refreshin to deal with NICE people?? LOL!

HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!!!
:)

We got U Chicago T-shirt, but no other mailings. Funny. The t-shirt actually (ridiculously) moved U Chicago way up D’s list. She hadn’t been that interested before then, but after getting the shirt decided to attend an info meeting and then a second small group info meeting. Amazing how that works. She told some friends that she was thinking about U Chicago and they all said, “no, you can’t go. that’s where fun goes to die!” she’s having trouble getting over that hurdle.

ugadog99- glad you were able to work out that issue - does every step of this process need to be so stressful? its like some weird challenge TV show.

Good Morning!

Happy Monday!!

S3 made MAJOR progress on his essays this weekend. Hurray!

When I get asked where S3 wants to go to college I say “He is applying to a variety of places, we will see where he gets in, luckily he is an easy-going guy and will likely be happy wherever he ends up”.

Tx5at home: I am saying something similar. I even think D agrees with the statement.

Offering one administrative tip:

I am setting up favorites or bookmarks on my computer with the website for checking application status for each university. D has completed 4 applications, and she can see the application status for 2 so far. A quick check every morning (by me) when I log into CC, and I can give her any news about what’s missing.

I also have a problem with the idea of “that’s where fun goes to die!” but S13 2 loves it! I think the shirt also helped sway him.

We had some of the free SAT score reports sent there, so maybe that’s how they got on the t-shirt list…

Bernese, at one of her school interviews, D was told they can see how often she logs into her school account to check application updates, etc. I have occasionally been doing the same thing, but now I wonder if I should make sure to only check once a week or so! One more thing for me to worry about.

Funny how the T-shirts really did create interest for some of your students, I guess the marketing folks know what they are doing. D got free T-shirts at a few school visits, but she only bought shirts at what have become her top 2 choices.

Hoping for good weather for your senior night, blueshoe. We got through ours OK this year, but it has rained hard at more than half of the senior nights I have been to over the years. It’s looking like no playoffs for us, so the season should be over this week. Maybe that Chicago EA app will get done!

critter, we did our long distance visits in the summer, but there is one she will need to see again at some point. Trying to get as much as possible done before spring sport starts up; she really shouldn’t miss any more games (already missing one or two for a spring break trip with AP language class)

Just wondering what everyone is planning for the last spring break with your seniors? DH asked last night if we all were going to go somewhere. My first reaction was that they might need to revisit a school or two to make a final decision, but I realized that they won’t have offers back in time… what to do?

No Tshirts from Chicago here although we get the mailings! Oh Well

But funny story how silly marketing gets 17 year old interested - my dd is applying to Butler for Pharmacy and they have bulldogs as mascots. They have two bulldogs on campus that have a live webcam and twitter accounts! My dd comes home every day telling me what the “dogs tweet”! She wants that job if she goes to Butler!

Spring Break - my kids will be at their national swim meet that week! Or my dd might be in France for a 2 week exchange - I really hope she gets to go to France!

ahsmuoh, my son went to France last year for a week at spring break + one week. It was a great experience, but making up that one missed week took him nearly two months. I can’t imagine having to do that this year!!! In fact because of that he is adamant about not missing school.

Spring Break: Ours is in April, so probably he will need to re-visit a few of the schools on his list to make a final choice. We hopefully will go skiing for “ski-week” in February. Depending on whether or not he can miss his spring sport.

Greekmama - I am thinking missing a week of school in April of senior year won’t be a big deal. Other than the AP tests she will be “done” - or at least I hope it will be at that point - of course the college decision may not be made yet - I have a very indecisive daughter! I went to France in high school and would love for her to go - it is a student exchange so she would go to school during the week and travel and sightsee on the weekends.

Senior Day and game postponed until Wednesday. Thanks for any and all dances.:)

omg, go to France and skip the meet! I’m sure she has done 1000 meets in her lifetime, and unless its the Olympics, in the end they are all the same. Make her go to France!

DD and H made me cancel our spring break plans the first year that DD made sectionals - I have NEVER forgiven them for that. lol. and they have never forgotten that they made me cancel our vacation for a (insert favorite adjective) meet.

I did insist D sign up for this trip, even though she plays a team sport and is a very important part of the team. She really wants to go, but is concerned about losses and the team missing out on playoffs because of her absence. I am hoping that the fact that school is not in session will limit the number of games she will miss; maybe one of them will be rescheduled.

Hey, everyone. I’ve been following along but not posting. Congrats to all with good news, especially swizzle!

About those spring visits … with ds1, he ended up never even seeing some of the schools to which he was accepted (Tulane, Notre Dame). He had so many other good options at places he already knew he loved, and money was limited, so we just never explored them further. Right now, ds2 has four schools on his list that we’ve never visited. In his case, I hope he gets in because I really want to see all these schools!

ETA: mamabear, we can always pray for rain. It worked for blueshoe. ;)

Our kids are going on a trip with the band over spring break so no college visits for them :D. DD will have decided by then and DS will just be waiting to hear from his HMFR, which he has visited once and we are planning on going to again after Christmas sometime (Jan or Feb).

Ah … I wanted to go somewhere special for Spring Break this year, but unless I win the lottery between now and then, only D will be going somewhere special. She’s scheduled to go to Europe for 10 days with a group her French teacher leads. Should be awesome as he and his wife take a different trip with the kids every year, but this is the first D has been able to sign up for. She has forgone birthday and Christmas gifts and is trying her best to help pay for it. I’ve taken on a side job to help. I think it’s an important experience. :)

Carla - oh believe me- France is definitely winning over the meet! the question right now is whether the school is going to allow the girls to go (we had exchange students at our school last year and were “promised” to go there this year - still waiting on administrations answer!

Happy Margarita Monday everyone!!!

Working my way back from Sat…so bear with me ;)

Carla~ With Jr’s stats I have every single person south of LA asking me where is he applying. Which they then follow it up with a very quick, “Oh he will get it!” UGGGHHH!!
So, I have started to tell people that he is applying to local JC just to see the looks on their faces…it seems to shut them up pretty quick ;)

Swizzle~ All I can say is HOLY CRAPTASTIC!!! What an amazing life long memory and honor!!!
