I try not to get bothered when people say things like, “Oh, he’ll get in!” I say, “Well, only 7% (or whatever the number is) get in so it’s statistically unlikely that he will.” :)

Spring break trips~ None hear Both kids will be knee-deep in Track season. And I am PRAYING that we know by then where in the SAM HELL Jr will be going so he can relax and enjoy his Sr season.

We tour USC on Weds and of course it’s supposed to be Africa Hot that day It’s really hard for me to NOT love USC…but I am trying to stay as partial as possible. USC is D14’s 1st and pretty much only choice as of now. She is a Cheerleader/Tumbler turned Pole Vaulter, so she is hoping that will be a good “in” for her.

Have any of your kids started to “dress the part” when it comes to College yet. Jr is all of a sudden asking for suits and preppy clothes. His new “love” is Vineyard Vines…guess this is what happens when they live in school uniforms from the time they are 4 yrs old.

S’13 tells people he’s applying to ITT Tech. LOL. I tell them something like tx5 described.

Spring break will likely be college visits. Lots going on here, so we’ll have to see.

S’13 got both 10/15 apps in on time! Movin on to Nov 1 deadlines…

MommyD~ BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I am seriously going to steal that one from you ;)

Ackkk!!! The ED application has been submitted!!!

Good luck, ree!!!

Congrats ree! That’s great!

Good job, Ree! A little relief. : )
My S14 showed me a tweet from D13 where she said she didn’t know why she was so stressed, as she would be happy anywhere she is applying.
However, then she came up with another one apparently announcing how much she wants two of the schools in particular. She was also all worried about her BF who is applying ED to Hopkins. He is so in love with the school, and he’s got a beautiful application but hey- those HMFRs are HMFRs to everyone. She’s worried about him, I’m worried about them both… and then there is this evil little devil who appeared on my shoulder in the middle of the night which went, “what if she doesn’t get in ANYWHERE?”. Eeks. Margarita Monday it is!

Wahoo~ I have 2 words for you if that happens, “Gap Year”
Cheers!!!

Hopkins is a HMRF? I only include single-digit acceptance rates in that category. We might be in trouble here.

Reeinaz - Good luck to your son.

DS got his first acceptance, Alabama. Even though the HS has not sent his transcripts or LOR (they have been requested). He said I wasn’t happy enough, so I walk outside the room, came back in and yelled congratulations!

He was curled up in a chair and kneed himself, from being startled, and gave himself a bloody nose. Well, it will be a memorable acceptance.

I read that some people are sending in housing deposits now, why? Can we wait until he visits next month or will he have trouble getting housing if we wait?

I think anything under 20% is easily a HMFR. If only 15% get accepted, that’s still terrible odds. AND, I think almost any school can be a HMFR for someone. My younger does not have the grades that the older has. There are a lot of safeties for D13 that would be HMFR for D15.

89wahoo - you caught my bug! I have that nightmare once a week.

For me, anything with an under 30% is a reach, but the HMFRs are reserved for the Ivies and Stanfords of the world.

Mom24, that’s so funny!!!

Ds got an email from his GS that said that she can’t send his stuff to the EA school until he requests a transcript through Naviance. Uh, he did, and it even says sent, so I’m not sure what’s going on.

S managed to submit Chapel Hill app. last night. at the same time the first version of his CA has been submitted as well. When he printed it out for H and I to read through it my though was - what the crap! There is no way someone is going to read it all, and even if they do, it looks so unappealing, so blant, it is so difficult to get interesting stuff from it.
Colleges must have a system of looking through the common app. otherwise after reading 10 it becomes all blurry and same. Aren’t you thinking the same?

DS wrote some risky essays. I really like them, he is a great writer with a strong personal voice which is distinctly his but…;)

^If your son’s app looks bland, then my son is really in trouble!

LOL @ MOM24 . . . we haven’t had any memorable acceptances.

Yay! A big packet arrived just now. Son doesn’t get home for another hour so I guess I’ll just have to wait.

Mom24boys, the bloody nose had me laughing out loud. Sorry, I’m sure it wasn’t funny to him!

I think HMFR is different for everyone, but for sure as someone said, the Ivies and Stanford.

Has anyone been to one of the USC Discovery day events? Just wondering if they keep track if you attended. We signed up for one tonight but with a Calc BC test tomorrow, I just don’t see it happening…

Had to laugh at that
What I mean is that it just looks like another silly piece of paperwork, there is nothing that catches your interest there in terms of fonts, spaces , bolding etc…
Have you tried printing it? It looks totally different than the screen…

Here we have decided not to pursue anything like that. We are in a flyover country and there is just no $ for long distance trips like that. DS said he will visit colleges if he is accepted and has to make a decision where to attend.
