We have academic counseling this morning for D15 - determining if she can stay at boarding school after a bit of a “crash-and-burn” first semester. Things are definitely turned around, so this is probably a planning session, but I’m still nervous. Funny how kids can be so different!

kelijake - good luck on your phone interview! Hope it goes very well for you…and I agree about standing up. I’ve had a couple of phone interviews and standing up really makes a difference. In fact, I tend to pace!

ahs - congrats to your D’s direct admit to Butler’s pharm program!

ahsmuoh–where are they coming from? Iowa is closed (no travel advised through most of the state), WI will have similar conditions from the way it sounds.

On a totally unrelated note–today’s Google Doodle is really cute–story of Red Riding Hood in honor of the 200th anniversary of Grimm’s Fairy Tales :D.

For the students on this thread, I recall from a while back someone posting about a Law of CC Conservation - that at most either the parent or the student will be on CC, but not both.

Welcome 13ers! As parents, we are not the norm, that is why had to find each other all here. But we are always glad to listen and give advice when we can.

DS took ahsmuoh’s advice and stood during his alumni phone interview and he got accepted, so there must be something to it :)

Dragonfly - that is an awesome 18th bday gift!

Good luck KeliJake! You can do it!
Longhaul & Confetti… sending good thoughts your way!
Dragonfly- that’s a fantastic gift, I agree! Wish U V A would send a Christmas gift to D. Someone told me that a friend’s kid got a “hinting” email a few years ago. Not sure whether to trust those rumors, but it sure would be nice…
Next year we’ll be here (we will, won’t we?) posting about first semesters and these 13’s coming home for break. I passed D’s room this morning and thought about that. Then I got sad, which reminded me why I work so hard at NOT thinking about that! I’m definitely living in the moment. :)

It is hard to keep up with all of the good news on this thread. I was tempted to specifically congratulate Dragonfly, especially, for Princeton but i reminded myself that all of our kids are remarkable with incredible parents and deserve the highest praise. So congrats to Dragonfly AND all the others for their achievements, even if the news isn’t what you wanted.

Finally all standardized testing is complete! Got result of the Dec 1 SAT Subject Test today. He got a 750 on Biology E, same as his Math II score. He already scored in the 700s on all sections of the November SAT which should be good to verify his NMSF standing. So, I believe that is it!

I notice that I signed up for CC one year ago this month. This is the thread I follow regularly (though it’s become more difficult to keep up). I want to thank all of you for making this ride less bumpy and more fun. It’s a great place to vent, seek advice and support, brag a little without being judged and otherwise save my family from putting up with me through this process. And of course, the virtual libations in Walker’s basement are the best.

SteveMA - my brothers family is coming from Chicago. They haven’t joined us for Christmas in 3 years so it would be very upsetting if they can not come!

Awwww, you guys are so awesome! Thanks so much for the support.

Just got off the phone interview, took the advice and stood in front of the mirror…they asked very interesting questions and I asked a few of my own. So we shall see.

Boy, an acceptance to Princeton is an awesome 18th birthday present!

89wahoo: UVA sent older DS a “likely” letter when he applied. They stopped it for a few years and restarted it again last year so if you get one, you have been accepted but it is not “official” until they release decisions.

Fat Princeton envelope – great birthday present!!!
