Congats on San Diego State, tx5!
Longhaul, I am also sorry about the deferral…

Oh congrats tx5athome - I just saw the San Diego acceptance.

Sacchi…Thanks so much for posting that article…I only wished they had more schools on it…if it pops up again with more schools could you please repost…Interesting how most of the Ivy’s are approx 50% full already…I know the Ed/EA apps were way up and the results certainly show it…

D got her FA package and it was terrific…We can do it and she Can Go
:)

Thanks to all my CC peeps…without the knowledge and support from you guys it wouldn’t have happened so smoothly…and I’m not in the nut house
:)

For those still waiting…you Will have Options come Spring :)

DS got a $$ scholarship to his #2 school today
Good to see the money starting to come in! Still waiting toll 01/07 to see if he’s in @ his #1 school. He actually managed to find his student id# online. Should he take that has a positive sign or does everyone who applies get a number?

Congratulations, lilkickster and tx5athome!

I’m sorry about the deferral, Longhaul! Nothing worse than waiting.

I’m glad that the FA package was good, Ama308 :)

Congrats on the scholarship, terinzak! DD got id #'s to log into her application tracking accounts at all of her colleges. Maybe it will depend on the college whether it’s a positive sign? Two of DD’s were shoe-ins and so not representative, she has one acceptance at the other two, but it will just be used for tracking the things she needs to send in and she’ll get a separate student account in the spring or summer if she decides to go.

Yes, sacci, thanks for posting the data link. My D will be glad to hear Pomona only filled 20% of its class ED1. Feel bad for the 3 kids Elon didn’t accept ED!

Definitely! Especially if your parents are older or you have younger siblings. My D has not gotten attached to any particular school and has applied to multiple schools that offer major scholarships because she knows we can only pay the same as her in state flagship costs. You aren’t the only one.

Thanks for that link Sacchi! mamabear: that is crazy for Elon ED; but their EA rate went from 86% last year to 51% this year. Clark had a big swing this year too. Kind of wild to see the percentage of class filled during the EA rounds.

Longhaul: sorry about the deferral!

Congrats to those getting good news about $$$ and admissions!

I think the Elon numbers are incorrect. I think last year’s ED acceptance rate was 86%, not the EA acceptance rate.

This Elon admissions blog has an entry in Dec 2011 saying that the EA acceptance rate was 50%, which is much more consistent.

Did anyone have trouble submitting the Ronald McDonald House Charities scholarship app?? This website has been frozen for about 1.5 hrs. Seems bizarre. Thanks!

Longhaul, I came back on here before bed (umm… it’s almost 3 in the morning!) to check your status. I’m sooo sorry. Here’s to keeping more body parts crossed til April! My son has webbed toes if that helps! PS I am VERY familiar with hyperfocus around here… my husband likes to hyperfocus in the shower about anything philosophy (not on the showering itself. Everyone knows that the time for deep thoughts are when you have 15 min. to shower, dress, brush teeth, and get out the door!
)

And Lilkickster, forgive me, but at first I was wondering why Lesley was calling you! I thought maybe she was your GC! But then I became confused when she actually started offering you money!! Then I had my palm slap of an ah-ha moment!! Congrats, and you’ve got some tough decsions ahead! But good ones!

DS’13 signed onto his portal today and has an official duke.edu email address! It’s feeling more real! Now I want him to join the Class of 2017 Facebook group so I can badger him about what’s going on with “stuff”.

DS14 got first SAT scores today. He was disappointed at first, but now he realized that with a little work, he should be able to bring them up no problem. And they really arent’ that low… it’s just that our school and his brother make him FEEL like they are low. In fact, we can say that he got a higher score on his first math SAT than his brother did! (They both came out thinking they might, maybe, possibly, have gotten 800’s, and they both discovered they’d made a few mistakes…)

Also, I checked the High Honor Roll today (all 90’s or above - though not weighted) and DS14 is one of only 13 Juniors on it for the first marking period! Class of about 460 kids. He’s not too excited, but I’m really proud of him, especially because he turned a couple B’s into A’s at the very end, esp AP Calc!! Yay, DS! (His initials really ARE DS!)

Found a great assisted living facility for my mom

Am working on a proposal with hubby for his start-up consulting business

Heated dinner that a friend brought for us

Edited pictures for Christmas Calendars and gifts

Wrote my dad’s obituary…

What an eclectic day! :)

Apollo6: We are in the same boat. DS applied to schools that offer major scholarships that will bring costs down to the same price as our in-state schools. We are not eligible for any financial aid and we are unable to foot the $50,000+/year so he did not bother to apply to the schools who only offered need based financial aid. He will be fine wherever he lands but he is not “loving” any school until all the decisions/scholarships are in.

MTnest–same here, however, we did come across a couple “need” based schools that were VERY generous based on the NPC. These were non-Ivy’s that didn’t offer any merit awards, or very few. Dickinson was one of them. The kids opted not to apply there though.

Hooray, D was accepted to Elon EA! It is one of her top choices, and gets a lot of love here on CC.

Yeah! That’s great news! Congratulations to your D.

vandygrad87 - congrats on Case!

lilkickster - we don’t have many choices yet but S13 will definitely be looking at money first. So far he has a full ride to his safety (NIU) and acceptance (fin aid offer in March) to his #1 Notre Dame. If financial aid doesn’t come through at ND or an RD school, he’ll be at NIU. Our position is that student loan debt for undergrad is best kept as low as possible. Also, the majority of students end up loving the college they go to, regardless of first choice.

Longhaul - sorry about the deferral. Maybe community service related to his plan of study? We’re looking for something like that over break or in Jan/Early Feb.

Congrats tx5athome!

Oh that’s wonderful, Ama!

terinzak, congrats on the scholarship. At a number of schools S13 got ID’s before the decision.

my3gr8boyz - here’s to productive days!

congrats, sacchi!

HIP, HIP, hooray, sacchi!!

Financials will be a huge factor in my son’s decision…so like others, we targeted schools that are known for big aid. Of 9 acceptances, so far he has 3 full tuition scholarship offers…2 schools are off the table due to insufficient aid, and the other 4 we don’t know about yet. He’s not attached to any one school…he’d be happy anywhere that isn’t home!

Congrats to your D sacchi!!!

I think Elon might be that one school I regret not “encouraging” my son to apply to. But I refuse to even start thinking about sending in more applications at this time. My son has a good list and good acceptances. I just hope some good $$$ follows :)

It’s funny, but my S was not at all happy about applying to Penn State but I made applying to at least one in state public a non negotiable. The love they have been showing him since his acceptance is starting to win him over.
