I am glad we got as many apps in as we did already. The school year started, activities have revved up along with homework, and sure enough d is so busy now I don’t know how I’ll manage to get her to finish the final 3. She didn’t get home until 8:45 last night, still had homework to do and is already getting exhausted.

Glido - congrats on the nmsf!

We’re also getting the calls from the schools where she visited. F urman called her the other night to answer any questions and she told them thanks, but I’m not applying. I was surprised she was so bold, but I think she was exhausted and not in the mood.

I had warned K2 that school and 2 heavy ECs would take their toll
…and between that and the GC who is expecting in 4 weeks…I am afraid K2 is going to get squeezed…in that K2 will need some critique on the essay and will be waiting on teachers LORs…and the time will run out.

Nothing has been done in 2 weeks…and K2 has wasted 2 weekends + Labor Day (5 days)
grrr.

Frankly the apps are almost done expect for this last essay…and in the last 2 days K2 got email with priority links.

I am not sure if sending the school’s priority app is better than the CA. They claim it puts K2 in the pot for $/preference.
Thoughts? The problem I see with these special apps is that the LORs etc aren’t attached like the CA.

College3399, my son’s scores are not in the running for NM. I think there’s a thread in the SAT forum on this site tracking the cutoffs by state. Check that and good luck! :)

dodgersmom–thank you for the info! Do you know if I am correct in thinking that my son can suppress one subject test score taken the same day as another he wishes to send? And, if taking advantage of the free score report for the upcoming Oct SAT I, is it only that date’s scores that are sent or will all scores be sent? I can probably figure that out once I sit down with the CB site but if anyone knows, most appreciated.

Someoldguy—I have the same ED/EA/SCEA understanding as you. Hope I am correct! My son will not be applying to any SCEA/REA, but does plan to apply non-binding EA and ED.

fogfog–UGH about GC going out on leave. My son’s will not be having her first until later this fall and I am fretting about that departure. Your situation should make me feel better.

Congrats to the NMSFs and good luck to those still awaiting notice.

Yes, you can apply EA while still applying ED. EA is non-binding so you would just have to withdraw any EA applications if you get accepted into the ED school. You just can’t apply to multiple binding processes (SCEA, ED, and whatever other names they go by these days).

DS is also doing multiple EAs and some rolling admissions, with one ED school.

Oh no problem with Fordham at all. Just realized that it’s definitely not a fit for DD.

It’s a BA and the academic requirements were quite challenging to her friend. DD is a fairly good student, but really wants a BFA if possible, and if not, then a BA that isn’t too heavy on the academics.

Yes she knows the value of a BA, but if she can’t excel (heck, or even survive) in the academics of a BA program, then that certainly won’t help her either.

DD’s friend is enjoying NYC and the theatre life though. She hasn’t had a chance to perform yet, which is also DD desires - to be able to audition for roles as a freshmen.

She has a wide variety of really good options so eliminating Fordham is no great loss.

Congratulations to those whose kids made the NMSF cutoff. My S missed by one point, which was what I had anticipated for months, after seeing the state PSAT score report. At least now he can finalize his list and focus on fit, without worrying about NMSF money.

D just brought something up that now we don’t know how to handle.

She has been on the sailing team since 10th grade - it’s a fall and spring sport.

She was named co-captain for this year. So we sent in all the apps with that info. However, she got surgery on her foot and last week the doc said she will have to sit out this season. She’ll be fine by spring season.

Do we contact all her schools and “rescind” the co-captain?

Your daughter can just send a brief (very brief!) email to the admissions offices advising that, due to injury, she’ll be sitting out the fall season. It’ll get added to her file.

I don’t know why I didn’t think of email - lol I was thinking she’d need to call. I’m glad you all are so smart. She decided with the volunteering and other clubs, she’d be better off not sitting on a dock for a few hours every afternoon while everyone else is off on the water. The coach is a really nice guy and gets it, she was worried about looking like a liar. But it was the truth when she sent the apps in.

Another question about the common app – when it asks to lists current courses and you can list up to 6, if some of them are half-year courses, should he list them? And I’m assuming he should not list his fave (gym).

Application fee waived, automatic scholarship consideration, and an expedited admissions decision. From a small Catholic college in the Northeast.

The best part? They sent us the offer on Rosh Hashanah - the Jewish New Year! ;)

All early action schools aren’t the same: some (e.g., Harvard) are “single-choice early action” and don’t allow you to apply to any other EA or ED schools. So read the fine print on all schools.
