Yes, akmom, if his scores were in the 50-75% range I would send them. Unfortunately, his are not in that range.

I should be able to find this somewhere else and shouldn’t be scheduling my son’s procrastination…but wanted to know if the Nov 1st deadline means by midnight on Halloween or midnight on Nov 1st? Not that he plans to leave it that late, as the CA 4 glitches concern me, but thought I should find out what we are up against deadline-wise. Thanks!

I believe the deadlines usually mean at the end of the day on question, so it would be midnight on the 1st.

Thanks math mom! I tried looking at a university site but it didn’t indicate. Since we were w/o power on Halloween for the past two years, we really should try to file sooner, but the essays are not coming along.

DS says he got most of the non-essay parts of the CA filled in last night. Essay is not started, but that is progress. He has an idea for the essay – that is also progress. He has 2 large projects for AP Bio also due at the end of Oct / beginning of November that are competing for his time, unfortunately.

I am enjoying reading all these posts that have the same questions as I do! Along the deadlines and SAT/ACT reporting, I’m unclear, for EA/ED schools, whether the SAT/ACT scores need to be there at the college by 11/1.

I’m sure this varies by school (and some schools mention on their website what the last SAT/ACT score date that they take) but was wondering what the general rule is (some websites don’t mention this at all).

Also, how long does it take (typically) to get the scores there? I was guessing that if you order by 10/15, that gives them 2 1/2 weeks, which I would hope would be plenty.

If anyone has any insight on this, would love to hear it - thanks!

Anybody else nervous about the CA glitches and EA deadlines? Trying to encourage D14 to submit today. Or tomorrow. Or soon…

Definitely nervous about CA glitches. Trying to get DS to (attempt to) submit at least a week before the deadline.

In terms of final cutoff time – time zone may be an issue if applying to a school in a different time zone. I would assume it is in the school’s time zone, but if midnight occurs earlier in your time zone, it’s possible CA would cut off submissions? I’m not sure if CA does that or if it’s just up to the school to decide if the submission was on time or not.

The link between Naviance & CA that allows for upload of teacher LORs will not be established until the end of this week. I have also heard of payment glitches. I KNOW that we should not be leaving this as late as I know it will be…

About submitting scores - here is what the CA says - don’t know how this works but they say it is possible to take scores off for those schools you do not need to send to:

https://appsupport.commonapp.org/link/portal/33011/33013/Article/1169/Send-Test-Scores-to-only-some-schools

Also regarding test scores - most colleges are connected to college board electronically. They do not snail mail most scores. And most schools will spell out which last test scores can make it for ED and Regular - like Oct SAT is ok for Nov 1 ED.

I arranged for a bunch of ACT scores to be sent. Is there anyway to tell (other then calling the school) if scores have been received?

tpc - most schools have portals where you can check the status of your application. I just got so nervous about d’s first choice I double checked - everything is there.

This common app thing is aggravating. Now I hear everything can be sent Friday. One of the schools is her favored safeties so we called the admissions office and they said to just send it by pdf. The other 2 are not high on her list so I’m letting it ride.

I’m starting to get nervous again. I just want her to get one yes. She hears next week on her first school, then everything else is dec 15 through January. I have to keep telling myself it’s why we came up with the safeties. And it’s so aggravating when the family is all of course she’ll get in…fill in the blank - she’s so sweet, she’s so outgoing, or cute or this or that - like that matters at all in admissions.

I am getting a little nervous about the EA submits too. DS’14 is on a sports team and in a play. His time is just getting eaten up. Sat him down and explained to him that there are not 22 days left in October for HIM. Trying to convince him that this weekend is the best time for him to put the finishing touches on those essays and short answers. He already arranged to have scores sent to all of his EA schools. Starting to sweat a little.

I know DD will be SO happy when her essay is in good enough shape to send to her EA schools! She’s on draft 7 right now and still working with English teacher to edit it. Writing is not her strong suit but she seems more comfortable with it after the edits she did late last night and meeting again today. No school on Friday (or Monday) so her goal is to get the essay done by the end of school tomorrow so she can submit at least two apps without any other essays over the weekend and hopefully finish the other EA essays over the weekend. We’ll see. I can’t wait for some to be done!

S had a melt down today. I took him to pick up his tux for Homecoming and he was a mess. He was freaking about how much homework he had and how little time he has. Tennis, Homecoming Court, 3 AP classes, Quiz Bowl practices started today, Student Council Exec Board responsibilities- total meltdown. Two of his AP class teachers assign homework on Monday that is due on Friday. He hadn’t done any of it yet. I suggested that next week, he spend an hour on each a day instead of doing it all in one night as he has been, when it is assigned in advance like that. He said he can’t work that way. He was ruminating about how much he had to do. I suggested he make a list so he can cross things off and realize he’s accomplishing things. He said that makes him freak out at how long the list is. He had an argument for everything. I suggested maybe he should slow down with some of the ECs. He had an argument for that. Tennis is over as of tomorrow but he just got a part in the school play. I told him he might have to prioritize because all this stuff is just overwhelming him. Argue, argue, argue. Picked up the tux, fed him- all of a sudden, he was fine. He mentioned all he’d eaten today was a salad. Oy. No wonder he was so grumpy!

Are we going to survive this crazy fall?

BarnardMom, my DS also had a total meltdown yesterday, and he doesn’t have as much on his plate as yours does! It’s going to be a tough month, for sure!

My D is having an issue too with all the AP and honor classes. BarnardMom, why do teachers give so much homework during the weekdays? I just don’t get it.

I teared up today, realizing this is it, the final year. She will be somewhere else next year by this time.

She is also in the not yet there on the CA camp, hopefully she will have it ready to hit submit by next week.

Getting closer every day…I read my S’s CA essay and was blown away…His GC read it and said it was perfect …no changes recommended…WOW! S said he wrote it in class. He is one of those writers when the stars are aligned he can produce some great work …

DH and I congratulated him on getting it done…he just shrugged and said it was a school assignment…

We also got great news about his ACT scores - first time taking -33 composite - I am very happy …S shrugged again…

Although I can see he is stressed. He asked not to go to practice today and came home and went to bed…good choice …

We will all be happy / relieved when the he submits his ED app. He still needs to write the supplement then he is done! Well… done with the first one…he may do a couple EA apps.

On another note - I am waiting for a final offer for a new job! I won’t feel that it is real until I see it in writing!..I am not a patient person! …deep breath…

DS came home from school today and knocked out 2 essays. Imagine my surprise. They need some revisions, but they are solid. One more and he is finished for his EA schools. This is such a tough time for our seniors. They need to work hard just to find a healthy balance.

Congrats onlyonemom!

Regarding having scores sent, October test dates are usually fine for EA/ED schools IF you select the school as a score recipient before the test. If you wait until after you see the scores you’re running too late. A Dean of Admissions from UVa commonly known as ‘Dean J’ has a great blog ‘Notes from Peabody’. She write a great blog post on this each year explaining the drag time. I’ll link it hear instead of trying to further explain it myself. I was pretty shocked when I realized a couple of years ago how long it can take.
