blueiguana, congratulations to your son! It’s great that he can enjoy the rest of the year.

Congrats Blue! It IS nice when one knows where they are going this early…

I didn’t have that with my other two, but enjoyed their decision making process later. There are pros and cons of both avenues.

Congrats, BlueIguana! What a load off of him! Now he can share with friends his good news and enjoy the rest of his senior year!!

Hi everyone! I haven’t posted in a month, the days are flying by too fast and I feel like I’m not managing my time very well! CONGRATS to everyone on completed essays and applications, acceptances, and recognitions!

After a somewhat stressful month of October, Cheergirl had her 9 applications all in by November 1. Super happy to report that she’s gotten five acceptances: IndianaU/Bloomington with Honors College and $11,000/year, UAlabama/Tuscaloosa with Honors College and full tuition for 4 years, Tulane with Honors College and $25,000/year, Penn State with no merit money (yet?) and UWisconsin with no merit money(yet?). Still waiting to hear from UMaryland/College Park (our flagship), University of Miami, UDelaware/Newark, and MiamiU/Oxford.

Can’t go OOS without lots of merit money but finding it challenging to get second wind for supplementary special scholarship applications, anyone else having that problem?

i’m also feeling stressed about how we’ll make a final choice in the spring. The thing is, I was so overcome by all the college hype that I had myself convinced Cheergirl would be lucky to be wait-listed at most of her schools…I truly didn’t believe she’d have a choice. Be careful what you wish for! Feeling very fortunate but overwhelmed.

Varsity Cheer is fall and winter season at our school, winter is less intense than fall. But instead of winding down, Cheergirl decided to join her school’s swim team (announced last Monday night that she had a 5am practice on Tuesday haha!), AND a competitive all-star cheer team that will compete locally through April. This is all so bittersweet. My life is SO full right now and I can’t help but think about how empty it’ll be next year at this time! :(

Congrats to blueiguana and cheermom!

Blue - my S did ED and boy did I sob when he got in! It’s such a relief to be in, and have it locked in.

I just found out D also got into Univ of New Hampshire…she’s away for the weekend so I’m not saying anything. Now we have to go visit the frozen tundra in the winter! brrrr That was one I said let’s wait to go visit until after you get in.

Now she has a choice between two, which is what my goal was for her, but these weren’t what I considered her safeties so she’ll have quite a few choices. Considering she hasn’t taken off her Auburn t-shirt or sweatshirt since we visited the decision may very well really be made already.

@blueiguana - Welcome to the tribe! I feel like I have won the Virginia public university lottery! My S14 as well got into William and Mary yesterday with the ED decisions! We are very excited for him! Twice now we are one and done. S12 is at WM too. I am thankful that both of my guys liked WM the best and both wanted to go for ED to give themselves the best possibility of getting in. When S12 was home at Thanksgiving he said “It would be great if _____ got in too!” And he did! Things are heating up on this board! Good luck to everyone!

Congratulations to cheermom & eyeamom!! What great news :)

Creekland, I totally agree there are pros and cons. S3’s application process was 180’ from S2’s. Different kids, profiles, majors, etc. I have no regrets supporting decisions that either of my boys made.

Cal - Thank you so much. Wow! How exciting for your family. As the days passed beyond 12/1 the anxiety rose. I cried out of happiness, and I think some relief as well.

Big congrats to blueiguana, cal1983, and cheermom! It’s great to have such good news early. All the best to your kids.

Blue, it’s so nice that both your boys are in-state. My oldest is out of state but not far…still easy driving distance. This S2 may very well end up on the other coast. I’ll be happy for him but a bit sad for me. At least it’s a great vacation city!

RenMom - I am blessed to have both instate. If S2 is asked back to his internship he will be very, very OOS. He only has three semesters left and could very likely end up on the opposite coast, so I know it’s only temporary and enjoy it while I can. S3’s list could have had him 45min away to 500miles, so not the opposite coast, but a range. If ED didn’t work out I honestly have no idea how it could have played out. There were a good number of OOS and privates with merit/scholarship on the line. Anything could have happened. I’m glad he doesn’t have to go down that road, but it was paved if he did, with a clear game plan.

Blue, you’ve learned so much about this process aiding both your boys. You really know it inside and out. I think you’d make an excellent college counselor, private with your own practice, or at a public school. I think one of the UCs does an online private college counseling certificate but I’m not sure you need one. At this point, I think you know all you need to know. Any kid who gets your advice would be in great hands.

Congrats blue & bluekid!! Great news! Hopefully, I’ll have great news to share on my daughter’s ED at Vandy next week. We have hope … but are definitely realistic about her chances. It is what it is … and she’ll go wherever she’s meant to be. :)

Cheermom … LOTS of choices!! DD is in at IU/Hutton as well … and just very well may end up there in the end. I can’t see how anyone could go wrong at a Big 10 school. LOTS to love there!

Hope everyone is staying warm … its about 15 degrees here! Brrrrrrrr!

DS friend today got into CalTech EA…congrats to all getting good news over past couple days…

Congrats to all getting good news - and may there be many more this upcoming week!

Blueiguana: Go Tribe! Eat a sandwich at Paul’s Deli for me.

So great to read everyone’s wonderful ED/EA news. I’m hoping we will have good news to share in the next week or so as well but I have to be realistic: S14 has excellent grades and rank, as well as top-notch SATs, but Ivy Leagues are a reach no matter how you look at it. So we are hoping for at least a deferral. A rejection will make for a very sad holiday.

Fingers crossed for all!

blueiguana – you old rascal you!
I was wondering when you’d post again, and you waited for something good! I thought of you this morning actually, because I used my Tarte BB cream (tip from another thread). Congrats on ED at William & Mary!!!

cheermom – wow – that’s a lot of yeses and a lot of $$$! Way to go, cheerD!

fingers crossed too for NoCook’s S. Just remember – if he gets dinged at a non-Ivy it doesn’t mean he won’t get into an Ivy. I heard of one kid who was accepted at HYP, Brown, Columbia and MIT, but wait listed at Georgetown.

Good luck to all!

Spending my Saturday night catching up on posts I’ve missed!

eyemamon…LOL-ing! “…didn’t want to knowingly get [D] with some vampire wild woman up all night…” Is your D applying to my D’s school? Cuz that vampire wild woman will probably be Cheergirl, as she seems to somehow survive on basically no sleep haha!

WoW!! Congrats to all those who have been accepted so far! Really happy for you guys, especially those who got into their ED schools. Must be nice feeling know that the college process is pretty much done!!

Congrats to Blueiguana and Cheermom! Woot! Woot! What a way to kick off the holiday season!

Renmom- You are giving me too much credit. We all shepherd our kids through this process. My kids made some good decisions that worked for them. I have also had the good fortune of meeting people through various means that have been very, very generous with their own experiences and knowledge, many here on cc. Also, you must not have heard my primal scream last night “Thank you Lord, he’s my caboose and I never have to do this again.”. Not a great endorsement to offer help to others. :D

Quagmiro - Gladly! I’ve heard Paul’s amazing. We have always gone to The Cheese Shop out of habit but it’s time to branch out. :)

C’o2015 - Thanks.
Are you liking the Tarte? As soon as my skin got dry with winter coming on it really showed dry patches. I’m getting ready to try Smashbox CC cream.
