Parents of the HS Class of 2014

momreads - What a great story and example for not giving up, and how to be proactive in following one’s dream! Wish every student who’s deferred could read/hear that!

Wish that these ED/EA decisions didn’t have to come in during exam week for DS’14 - oh well, done complaining.

glido, so true…it’s not easy having to wipe away tears so you can read the calculus formula.

HI All

SO far K2 is 4 for 4…and the top 2 have yet to arrive…
The “current” top school will send the decision snail mail (all the rest came snail mail in huge envelopes w merit $ etc) Dont know if this school has an online notice…I DO know that a positive decision will be in an envelope of the school color.

SO
If the envelope arrives before the holiday and its in color–do I hide it and put it under the tree?

This decision will make/break the holiday for K2

4beardolls – love your sense of humor! So true – another friend’s child got rejected from her ED school and she has 3 finals ahead of her. And now 10 supplements to work on!

My D got very freaked out about a potential A- her senior year in high school. It seemed like everything was the end of the world that year. Frankly, I was getting tired of it and I finally said “You’re right, that’s terrible. I guess you better fill out a Walmart application because nobody will accept you with an UW GPA of 3.97.” She blinked and then started laughing. From that point on, every time she started to freak out about college admissions or grades, I’d say “Want the Walmart application?” and she would pull herself up by the bootstraps and move on.

fogfog - hoping for a school-colored envelope for your K2!

Seems terrible timing with the holidays and for those with exams right now!

Son '14 has had a great day. He got into Rose-Hulman, which has a top engineering program (although he wants to study math and econ). He already has spoken with one of the assistant track coaches about the program. He also got into another southern university with a strong STEM program. Then, he called me to say he checked his e-mail and got into an outstanding honors program at one of his schools. So it’s been a good day for him.

It will be even better Friday, when Christmas Break starts, and he can relax a bit.

He also wanted to tell me that one of his best friends who is a NM semifinalist got into Cornell ED, while another friend got a rejection from MIT.

S accepted to ED school today! I will sleep like a baby tonight - I have been so stressed because he had barely touched his RD apps
So happy we are done … Especially pleased for our other son coming home from college; he can now really enjoy Christmas and not be in the midst of application mad dash home!
Best wishes to all

Congratulations momreads! Rose Hulman is a great engineering school. DS and I visited last March and were quite impressed but he ultimately decided that it wasn’t for him.

Lots of good news for DS’s friends as well. Several into each of Princeton, Cornell, and Penn tonight and 8 into MIT over the weekend.

I know most of these kids very well and I am so darned proud of them!

I haven’t posted here in months, but have been lurking along and am happy to see all the good news.

Calla1 and beadymom, congrats on the pending Eagle BORs…DS kicked off his fall with his own Eagle Court of Honor in September and has since had the pleasure of participating in COHs for two more of his patrol, plus attending a BOR a couple weeks ago for another.

DS today was accepted EA to WPI, which for the moment is his first choice (pending $$ notifications). Also in at UCF and Pittsburgh, and was deferred from Case Western (the latter didn’t bother him overly much, luckily). Expect to hear from Northeastern later this week, before making to trek from FL to IN for Christmas, where we will be celebrating with his cousin who got into Georgetown EA today. Also a childhood friend of his got into Tufts ED, so much happiness all around these parts today…:)

Great news today. My daughter got her official admission letter with a fantastic merit award to Emmanuel College, in Boston. She will be playing soccer for the school! GNAC D3. GO SAINTS!!!

Tpcrd66: S submitted maybe a week before your son so hope you’ll be hearing soon.

Lots of good news here tonight! Congrats everyone!

All this fantastic news! I wish we would just hear something from one of them- any of them.

Hi all,
Congrats to all those with good news and wishes for better news to those who haven’t heard what they wanted thus far.

D3 was accepted to Cornell ED today. It’s been so stressful the last few days waiting to hear. D is thrilled – they have a program that fits her goals so well – and we’re so happy for her. From sunny California so those upstate NY winters are going to be quite a change for her!

D had “little sister” tutoring after school so she arrived home late. Where’s the mail? It was still out in the mailbox at the street. She put her boots and coat back on and went to the mailbox. Once back inside, her color left her as she looked through the mail and found a thin white envelope from one of her two top choices that she applied EA. :(

But the EA letters aren’t supposed to be released until the 20th.

It turns out that it was not bad news. It was simply a letter from the dental affiliate program office requesting that she complete the supplement and submit it by mid-January as the dental school conducts their own screening for the professional school part of the program. It went on to say that the request had nothing to do with her EA application and she would get those results as scheduled. But the fact that they went to the trouble to mail out this specific letter for a very competative program is a hopeful sign (in our eyes) that the EA decision will be an acceptance. Four days to go. :)

S14 got deferred from his safety last week and we spent the weekend scrambling to find another safety to apply to.
Come Monday though a different story, he was accepted to his first choice ED, which was a reach!!He was walking on air!!
We are not trying to find the logic in that, just too happy that the holidays will be relaxed and all this craziness is behind us.
Congrats to all on good news received!

Congrats to all with Christmas acceptances!

Ovrseasmom, some schools will defer candidates they feel are using them as a safety. It’s not abnormal. They just feel they won’t be “chosen.” Glad your guy got his ED.

Congrats to all with great holiday news!

I was asking K2 about any news amongst classmates and hear there were lots of deferrals from reach schools… :frowning:
Was reading the decisions threads of a few and I think that many hs gc do a disservice to the kids.

AvonHSDad, I would read that the same way. Fingers crossed
