Wow, 4beardolls, what wonderful news!! Congratulations!!!

@NewHavenCTMom - Congratulations to your DD on being selected as a Gates Millenium Scholarship finalist and Ron Brown Scholarship semi-finalist!! What great news!! Best wishes to her!

@NewHavenCtMom That’s fantastic about the Gates Millenium and Ron Brown Scholarships! Fingers crossed on the next phase. @4beardolls Congrats on that Vandy award! That’s a big deal!

@NewHavenCTMom, what do you think your D “needs” for her dorm? Beside Twin XL sheets, freshmen shouldn’t really need much that they don’t already own. Towels – you will need fewer in the house without her @ home, so she could take some from the house, and so on. I know daughters can tend to want to do fancy decorating, but it’s hardly “necessary”. Just a thought. What we bought for our first: 1 set of sheets (he brought a sleeping bag from home for backup in case of bedding emergencies), dorm fridge (will go to S’14 now as S’11 is in an apartment and no longer needs it), a couple of power strips approved by the school for use in the dorms, 1 set of plastic shelves (which we bought in the college town once we’d scoped out the room). I did pack up some extra cold remedies, tylenol, and the like for him also. My 2nd will probably want a mattress topper of some kind, but again will end up needing to buy very little that he doesn’t already have.

If you want to spend a lot decorating the dorm room, obviously feel free to go for it. But when I hear parents stressing out about the cost of everything their kid needs for their dorm room, it’s worth asking what they really need.

The list had no decorating items. We haven’t even considered that! That’s the least of our worries right now.

I do remember outfitting her dorm room for Choate as being a chore a few years back. As we all know, just the Walmart runs every year before school adds up, and that’s just notebooks, pens, loose leaf, index cards, highlighters, etc.

Things still in holding pattern here. Still waiting on WashU. And wondering if there are any more scholarships just floating around out there at schools that he has already been accepted at. He’s applied for several outside scholarships that will go anywhere, but not sure when those will be announced.

@NewHavenCTMom - congratulations on the Williams acceptance too!

@GertrudeMcFuzz - congrats on D’s audition and acceptance!

Let’s keep this good news rolling!

My S was a minimalist too. Ds tend to have a lot more stuff, requiring a lot more storage…bed risers, under bed storage boxes, over closet shoe racks, hanging sweater organizers, hooks, etc., plus decorative items. And that’s in addition to the standard fare. A few things I found useful for S, and will duplicate for D, were a small tool kit, a first aid kit I made up with cold meds, throat lozenges etc, and a big case of assorted batteries.

WOW! - Lots of good news posted this weekend.

momreads - Happy Birthday!

4beardolls - Congratulations on the CV Scholarship - what a great acccomplishment!

GertrudeMcFuzz - Congrats on the successful audition and acceptance!

NewHavenCTMom - Congrats on the scholarship finalist notifications and the Williams acceptance! If she got in at Williams and has a likely from Dartmouth, she should be receiving more good news in the upcoming weeks. Sounds like we will be seeing you onboard in April.

It sounds like we will be using all of the champagne already loaded onto the SS Indecision for celebratory toasts!

Good morning, is it 4:10am or 5:10 am? I hate mornings like this…thanks everyone for the congrats, it’s been a long tedious, mind numbing road as most of you know. Thank you for all of the support over these past 3 years. You are all so wonderful!

Feeling so happy today! The school that accepted D yesterday is the first one that is truly both a) Awesome and b) Affordable. D would be thrilled to attend, and it is relatively near home. So relieved to have one of those in the bag - in fact, any good news from this point on will just be gravy. What a load off! I have to say, the school gained many points in awesomeness yesterday by the reception and personal interest they gave her - basically telling her they are excited about her goals to become a professional chorister and conductor, and know just how to help her achieve them.

So 3 weeks to go everyone - hold on tight - the news should be flowing in fast and furious from this point on!

Good morning to everyone. Only 3 more Sundays to go before all decisions are released and the “month of decision” begins for many of our kids (and us)!

@NewHavenCTMom, congrats on all the good news!

I’m interested in what’s on the dorm list that she doesn’t already own? Good luck sorting it all out!

For “school supplies”, every August I buy whatever is on loss leader at Staples (of a type that we tend to use) and the kids are welcome to take whatever they like from that. Beyond that, my college son pays for his own supplies. That’s part of what we expect him to pay for from summer and/or school-time income.

@GertrudeMcFuzz - congrats! I can hear the relief. We’re getting closer everyone! Though we have a decision it will be nice to have everyone set and ready to go! Then we can start weeping over our empty or emptier nests.

So happy to hear to great news being posted!!! Congrats!!! You guys give me hope (and an outlet to obsess over this college stuff w/o boring everyone around me!). Still waiting over here…in one safety w/honors and $ though!

Congrats to everyone on all the great news !!! I feel like the finish line is in sight, the next set of decisions will be coming soon along with all the financial packets. Even D is doing a count down. Now if we could only find a prom dress :)

Talk about stress…yesterday D said “Why is where I’m going to college all ANYONE is talking about–(parents, students, friends, relatives, etc.)? If one more person asks me about college, I’m going to lose it.” She’s waiting on 3 big decisions and the anxiety is at maximum level. Wondering if I should move out of the house if all 3 come back with a no… :-O. Can March 31st come NOW?!
