Parents of the HS Class of 2014

@akmom124‌ this laparoscopic surgery stuff is quite amazing, and the recoveries can be really quick. I was flat out for 2 weeks after having my appendix out back in the old days, but my son (not in especially great shape or anything) was pretty much back to normal after a very few days!

@ordinarylives‌ too bad about the timing of the track meet. She may feel fine for running, but as you said, she will probably not be at her peak. And I agree, fencing the day after surgery would not have been advisable! There’s fast, but that would be pushing it!

Four AP exams down. Two more to go.

Then, if Son '14 wants to sleep all day Saturday, it’s fine with me. He looked so tired when he came to see me after school today. He would have loved to jump in the car, gone home and taken a nap, but he had track practice in 90-degree heat. Then, after practice, he needs to help set up for a meet tomorrow. Thursday, he has two AP econ exams. Friday night, when practice ends, we already have big plans. Go home, eat soup and bread (a Friday night thing for us) and go to bed early! Real party animals, right?

He also needs to do a final draft for a government paper. And the government teacher is giving him grief, because he does not plan to submit a second rough draft. The kid has not been in class three straight days because of exams, and you give him a hard time on a second rough draft. Really? A rough draft is just that. He plans to finish the paper this weekend … and hopefully, soon he can call it a senior year.

. Amen to that! My daughter was so exhausted yesterday from the AP Physics test. She was just finished with AP US Gov, then the 2 Econ tomorrow.

We are having a Santa Ana condition here in SoCal most of this week (strong wind with high temperature and very low humidity, perfect condition for wild fire). I just learned that there’s an active fire right now that’s really close to homes. The fire is not close to our home but with these conditions a fire can start anywhere and will spread really fast because of the strong wind. We evacuated from our current home twice already since we moved into this house.

@2018dad, as a fellow SoCal resident, I understand about the Santa Anas. Very scary. I am sending prayers that the fire will be contained.

@calla1‌
I just turned on the TV and the fire is spreading out rapidly. They’re now evacuating residents and kids from several schools near the fire.

@2018dad, I hope they can control it quickly. Today is so hot and dry. :(

@staceyneil – thanks for the positive thoughts – I’m sending some your way for speedy healing after your surgery.

@2018dad— thanks for the support – I hope rain comes your way like it’s coming ours.

@agentyninetynine – thanks – I think at this point, no one can talk sense into him

@2018dad …praying for you guys!

Senior skip day isn’t sanctioned by the administration, but the kids themselves organize it for a day that has no athletic/musical/academic events that would be affected by an absence. and yes, these kids are very good at organizing as evidenced by the prom planning!

DS is unfazed by APs and is focused more on the upcoming playoffs. He said he got a good 45 minute nap after one of them LOL.

Thanks @mathmomvt. I figured I was inventing a new term :)

@2018dad: Spygirl was pretty wiped out after yesterday’s AP Physics test. She said it was brutal. Those Santa Anas can be awful. I can’t believe how quickly those San Diego fires spread.

@2018dad - I am praying for the winds to slow, and for the firefighters to gain control, as well as safety for the firefighters and residents.

This is a very scary situation for all concerned. It’s so hot and dry.

@calla1 @Agentninetynine‌ @cakeisgreat‌ @classof2015 @my2sonsfromca‌
This fire spread rapidly. When I heard about it before lunch, CalFire was saying that they have it under control. Few hours later, 20,000 homes are now under evacuation. We’re not that close from the fire but I have co-worker’s and family friends near the area.

scary about the fires – stay safe everyone!

@2018dad‌ - right there with you. I left work early because, even though the fire is not currently close to our home, it was between me and home. Didn’t want to get cut off!

@2018dad and @gertrudeMcFuzz, I’m trying to find a map of the fire line and evacuation area. Do either of you have links? Like many, I have friends and family in the San Diego area.

I’ll be keeping vigil with you. I always do when it gets bad like this.

It’s probably hard for out of state people to get a feel for exactly how hot and dry it is here. The brush is like kindling and temps were in the 90s today, with very high winds.

NBC is doing pretty good coverage; <a href=“News – NBC 7 San Diego”>Lt. Explains Why Dog Was Shot by SDPD – NBC 7 San Diego;
The fire is running along the 56 freeway, to the north of it, and moving west.

@calla1‌
Here’s a map from UT San Diego:

It looks like the wind died down a little bit. Hopefully it’s not going to be like what happened in 2007. There were some fires back then that started late in the day, way out in the eastern/rural part of the county . We went to sleep. Then we woke up the following morning with almost 50% of San Diego county on fire.

@GertrudeMcFuzz and @2018dad, thanks for the links. I am so glad to hear the winds are dying down.

Keeping those in the San Diego area in my thoughts and prayers and hope the fires end soon!
Congrats to @Calla1’s DH for getting a job offer so soon!
@itsv - hope your house is back up and running before the summer is out so you can have a little bit of normalcy before your DD has to go to school.

Last day of school is tomorrow for DS! Younger brother goes through May 30. Prom is Saturday, Graduation the following Friday 5/23. He’s playing tomorrow night at a local restaurant with his HS Jazz band (bass guitar) and Friday night at the church carnival with his rock band. I’m going to miss that!!

Dorm room and roommates have been selected. Orientation is mid-June (day and a half) and move in is August 7th for his week long honors community service project before school starts. This summer is going to fly by!

@Agentninetynine‌
Those are my daughter’s exact words: It was brutal.
