I’m feeling nostalgic today. Yesterday one of her friends posted Facebook pictures of an intermural soccer game and there were pictures of my D playing soccer and laughing. It brought back memories from the past 13 years of watching her play soccer. I miss that. But some things haven’t changed; she still likes to wear a ribbon in her hair when she plays. It’s like Roseanne Rosannadanna hair, with a ribbon. If it wasn’t for her friends posting pictures on Facebook I would have no knowledge of what she does. Thank goodness for Facebook. And even though finals are next week, there’s always time for having fun.

Overtheedge: I feel that you feel much better soon. The holidays are stressful. The last thing you needed with a bad knee.

My son comes home late tonight. I had hoped to go with my husband to pick him up at the airport, but I caught some nasty virus that gave me a temp over 100 this morning. Went to the doctor. No flu. No strep. No infection. Just a fever. So I’m home today and tomorrow. Maybe my son will go out and pick up lunch for us!

What did I do to occupy my time? Order his second semester books. Oh the pain in the wallet.

Happy Holidays to everyone! DD14 started finals this week and will be done Saturday night with her physics final. (Saturday night finals? Huh?). We’ll pick her up Monday and then she’ll be home 5 weeks
. DS is waiting on an MIT EA response tomorrow, but heard yesterday that he made All-Eastern Chorus
so even if the MIT answer isn’t what’s he’s hoping for, he’s still got a lot of emotional bounce from that. All in all, feeling very happy and blessed.

D arrived home about 10 pm last night. Said her Calc III final was a bear. She ran out of time and just wrote “some stuff” on the last problem. Then said, “C’s get degrees, Mom.” Guess now I roll my eyes at her.

^^^ I love the “c’s get degrees” line.

I love it too! It is like the question “What do they call the guy who graduates at the bottom of his med school class?” Answer is: Doctor!

My son has been debating when to come home, which is the luxury of going to school 40 miles from home. He had his last final exam today but has two papers due next week and he wasn’t sure where to write those from- school or home. He’s decided he wants to come home mid-day on Sunday. I guess he’ll see how much he gets written between now and then and finish it all up from home. My BarnardGirl will be home on Thursday night. Barnard released their ED results yesterday and it’s so cute seeing the girls on the forum so excited to be going there!

It’s much better this year just reading /lurking on the HS Class of 2015 and all the ED/EA threads than it was with all of the anticipation, waiting and tears/cheers of last fall when the first round of decisions were announced. It makes their drama of finals seem so routine and non-emotional.

Well, my holiday drama was the emergency appendectomy I had to have early yesterday morning. I waited until I knew I was well on the road to recovery to let my S14 know. He’s got finals next week and will be home on Thursday. He told me one of his best friends had to go to the hospital with stomach flu and my son went to the pharmacy to get his medicine. Stomach flu during finals would be awful! I on the other hand get an extra week off of work at the holidays and an excuse to not go overboard with prep and shopping.

My S16 had to wake himself up and get to school on Friday, which he did. Came home to find images from the laparoscopic surgery on the table. “Eww, those are pictures of my mom’s insides!” he told his dad, trying to unsee them. They brought me home from the hospital last night then had a bachelor night watching Clint Eastwood movies while I slept.

Wow, heal up quickly! Hopefully your guys can take over holiday prep now
.

And @AvonHSDad, I agree with you on the differences between this thread and the Class of 2015 thread. I’m there to because of DS 2015 and things are getting crazy there. Fun and kind people, but so much is happening right now, it’s hard to keep up!

@crowlady – Never a dull moment!! Best of luck to you as you recover.

And if it’s not too late you can put your laparoscopic appendectomy photos on the family holiday card.

@crowlady - hope you are feeling better. Get plenty of rest.

ROTFLMAO !!

Hope you’re all better soon @crowlady!

@crowlady , enjoy the down time as best you can. Hope you feel better soon!

@crowlady - Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Get well soon @crowlady and @Overtheedge .

Got the Bursar bill yesterday for D’s second semester. I knew it was coming but still “shocked” by the amount that we have to pay.

Join the club, 2018dad. Just received two college tuition bills…freshman and senior sons, full pay. Thank God they only overlap one year bc it’s shocking. So, last bill for senior and 3 more years left for freshman. What seems so odd is that I have a kid who only has a semester of college left and another who has already completed his first semester, minus one more final. Where the heck did the time go?

Happy holidays everyone!

You all get your bills late! I got both of them in November. We’re also full pay for 2 which made me think back and wonder why we didn’t do a 4 year age gap! lol I calculate life by how many more tuition payments. I don’t know what I worry about more, making the tuition payments or them getting jobs once they graduate!

Yeah, that bill is a killer. I received mine on the 7th…also full pay. I am fortunate in that my kids are spaced 7 years apart so I don’t have any overlap. On the other hand, it seems like I will never be finished with tuition payments. The second one worries me too. D is far less pragmatic and far more costly than her older brother. If she graduates in 4 years, I will be amazed (and throw a big party!).

My d is talking about taking one of the summer mini-semesters. She could come home for 10 days, take classes for 5 weeks, and then have another 7 weeks at home. She could take two classes. She’s not behind, but it could give a little breathing room if she has any tougher semesters down the road. SInce her school registers by credits it would also put her a little ahead of the rest of the pack. I agree that she’ll be bored at home. We were talking about her taking accounting 1 - it’s a class I could see her struggling with during the year because it would be so boring for her. (no offense to any accountants out there) I would think this every day, small class size immersion would help, and the writing class she couldn’t get for spring semester. She’s a good writer, so cranking out writing projects wouldn’t be as burdensome for her than it would be for others.

crowlady: Feel better soon. Not the kind of holiday drama anyone needs.

My son showed up late Thursday evening. Explained that he did need to bring home a few items that needed laundering. Apparently he wore them on campus before he realized he would love to wear them for a college forum this week at his old high school. He’s pretty much kept to himself, because his parents are sick! My husband has a terrible sinus infection. I have pneumonia. What a way to start off the holidays. My guess is that if he is bored sitting around the house waiting for his parents to get better, he will do his daily running for his team and go and volunteer at Toys for Tots. He has enjoyed that the past two holidays,
