illinoismom4: Not sure if you are from Illinois but it seems that all of the Business School at IUB Kelley is from Chicago suburbs.

PLEASE check out IUPUI Kelley if you come this way for visits. You will be impressed. My son looked at and had options at many of the schools in Indiana. He chose IUPUI because it’s cool, Kelley degree and high placement.

Goodkidsdad- I wish we in Illinois had the state schools to choose from that Indiana has, especially at the in-state tuition rates they have. We’re fairly familiar with a lot of the IN schools, but for some reason IUPUI wasnt high on the radar until it kept coming up on this forum. S15 had been looking at IUB Kelley, but I’m reasonably certain it’s not financially doable for us, so we’ll give IUPUI a better look.

Illinoismom4: After this year the Kelley criteria in going up so be advised. The demand is increasing at IUPUI. Eventually mirroring Kelley Bloomington. Also, different from most schools the scholarships come from the Honors College and not the school proper. So if you get a scholarship you will graduate with Honors. BONUS!

Think about it. Kelley Honors degree in a school with a VERY high Internship placement!

Try to get the ACT score outlined below and it is a great education and affordable.

Again, if you are coming over for a visit for Kelley. Get a hold Of Brittany Gleitsman at IUPUI and let her know that your kid is interested.

@Illinoismom4, tell me about it. Illinois is one of the worst states to live in for college searching. Our in-state tuition is higher than pretty much anywhere, and the choices are limited to so-so (at best) schools, or places that are way too expensive. The only school we looked at in state was SIU-C, and my kids didn’t like it. They much preferred the vibe of Murray State and Bowling Green, and I hear Ball State is nice also. All out of state.

My son just called me at work. He just got accepted to Wisconsin-Stevens Point. It’s his first choice. Both our twins are locked in at their colleges now. It feels surreal. I’ve so much enjoyed the process of the college search. We get to do it one more time with our D18 - though it will be a very different process with her. Very excited for my son. It wasn’t a gimme he would get in.

Way to go kmanshouse!!!
Looks like early returns in this group shows that if you go for true fit, there is a place for everyone in this madness of college admissions
Everyone keep up the good work and before we know it we will be talking about move in dates!!!

Thanks! Yes - we did not reach too far for our boys. We knew what was reasonable. The best part is we structured this so that their first choices were realistic.

@kmanshouse-that’s great news! It must be a relief to have the choices set so early. We too have not really looked at any IL schools- my first three kids have all gone to school in Indiana, partly for the programs they wanted, but also because of the cost. S15 is looking farther afield, too, so that we can find something that fits the budget as well as is a good fit for him. We signed up for a day at UIUC but it’s going to take a lot to convince me that it’s worth the price.

Right, we have one going up to Wisconsin, and one heading to Ohio. UIUC is a great school, but it’s not for everybody. I visited when I was choosing schools - got in there and U of Iowa, and much preferred Iowa’s vibe. But I have tons of friends that loved UIUC.

Congrats to all the acceptances! My S1 was accepted to his first choice of school around this time four years ago. I remember the wonderful feeling I had back then. It helped a lot to lessen the senior year stress.

I thought the second time would be easier for me. I was so wrong! Not much college application work done here. S2 has a part-time job at a restaurant and he is taking 3 APs, 1 honors and 1 DE. He has started the applications but no essays done. He thought he was ahead of his friends until yesterday one of his friends was accepted to TAMU.

I try very hard not to stress out of this whole process. I can remind S2 of deadlines and requirements but he is the one who takes the ownership. He does not like me to bring out the subject, says he still has plenty of time and that he will get applications and essays done.

I am a worrier …The sure thing is that there are academic and financial safety schools that have spring 2015 deadlines. Not his top choices but feasible.

Congratulations @kmanshouse for the early triumph!! I’m so jealous. :)

D is mostly finished with her applications. She needs to finish her CA essay already (I think it’s been in the same state since June or July). But progress has been made - she showed it to a friend for feedback. (baby steps, baby steps). She has a huge calendar on the wall in front of her desk with all the deadlines marked out - her doing, not mine. So like @sunnydayfun, I have to let go and have her take ownership. I think she needs to hear of someone being accepted to light a fire under her.

@kmanshouse! Hearty congratulations on the first choice! It’s such a weight off, and now you all can just relax and enjoy the rest of the year.

@kmanshouse - Congratulations! UWSP is a great school for his major, I’m sure he will do amazing there! And BG, another fantastic choice!

Breathing sigh of relief here - needed a 1 pt bump on ACT - D went up 3 pts!!! Opens up many more merit options at the schools on her list. I’m so happy and proud of her!!

This thread has a GREAT vibe with all of the first choice admits. How awesome? Really impressed with Slackermom’s D driving the ship! And Kmanshouse S admit!! Way to go!!

Thanks @SlackerMomMD - she was very excited to see her score! She said she thought she bombed the math section because she guessed on the last 10+ questions (I knew it was a few but not that many), but managed to still go up 1 pt. I could see the $$ in her eyes because she knew what an increase would mean for her merit opportunities - she was very pleased with herself and right she should be!

As for me, I’m glad to to have it over with to be able to concentrate on the next phase of apps and supporting docs.

@kmanshouse, congrats on UWSP. It’s a popular school for kids from our area and has some really great programs.

My D’s one-point bump in the ACT today was just what she needed to qualify for an automatic scholarship at Iowa State. We haven’t visited but will if she decides against the two Catholic schools in MN that are currently at the top of her list. She should get into both of those and they should be affordable because of the tuition exchange program her dad is in through his work. We are visiting the Catholic schools next week.

@sally305 Next year, my DD16 would like to check out a Catholic school in MN, St. Catherine U, for its social work program (BSW). Do you have any recon on it, considering your D’s list?
