I don’t know if there was a list ever put together for the 2014 bunch - the only thing I found was their original thread:

<a href=“Parents of the HS class of 2014 - 3.0 to 3.3 GPA - Class of 20xx Community - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/class-20xx-community/1469626-parents-of-the-hs-class-of-2014-3-0-to-3-3-gpa-p1.html

If you go a little farther in, say page 50+, they do start talking about acceptances and such - that might be helpful?

Just looking back at that 2013 3.0-3.3 list - those kids got into some great schools!

@slackermommd I will post my D results closer to the April date. She is currently 9/9 with only one EA school left to hear from and then the Candian schools late spring . Her schools range from 30%-to 70% range for admittance and so far all have come with $!

@hoosier96, that is incredible! Congratulations! That will make decision making quite interesting but what a great feeling.

Regarding acceptances, maybe we start our own? This is, after all, the 3.0-3.3 GPA thread for 2015. One issue is that the SAT/ACT scores probably vary a lot. Someone with a 21 ACT won’t have the same chances as someone with a 31, even in this same GPA range.

@kmanshouse, I get what you’re saying but there’s probably more overlap in the schools than not among our children. The limiting factor is the GPA. Even if our kids scored 35, 36, their grades would prevent them from applying to the “top” schools. I’m not even sure our kids would want to attend those schools.

Unweighted my child falls smack in the middle of this group - if she’s lucky. Weighted, she has a higher GPA. I come here because, well, I liked the college acceptance list in the 2013 3.0-3.3 thread. The list seemed quite reasonable to me. There is no way, D can to go to an Ivy, Lafayette, Pomona/CMC, Emory, Rice, the big flagship state universities (Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn State, etc.). I needed viable alternatives. This group provided me with that (thanks!).

So what is the best way to start it?

I’m the one who created the “attending” list for 2013. As I recall, the acceptance list everyone just added their own, but it got unwieldy quickly. For the attending, everyone PM’d me and I updated the list every so often (with the latest additions in bold). I would suggest doing it that way. Just need to find a parent willing to compile the list!

I’m looking forward to reading the list. I was proud of our 2013 grads - and my D was very solidly in that group. She’s doing very well now in college - much better than she did in high school. My S graduates in 2016 - he was in this group Freshman and Soph years, but has now moved into the 3.5 range. I’ll still follow these 3.0-3.3 threads because I think they’re exceptionally supportive.

Dead week this week, motivation about gone…I just hope we end on a good note. Next semester will definitely be VERY trying on this mom’s nerves…

It’s pretty wild that this is the last semester finals my boys will take in HS. In our district, seniors don’t take finals 2nd semester. This has been a VERY light year for homework, thankfully. I think my sons, wife and I are all about sick of each other harping on what assignments are done, not done, etc. My freshman daughter is much more diligent about getting work done, and that’s a breath of fresh air.

At the same time, I am really beginning to feel the impending loss of 2/3 of my kids leaving home soon. I am going to be so sad. I have lived for these boys. We are in the middle of their last athletic season, which has been the one thing that’s kept us going in the cold winters. Man, am I going to miss them.

Here’s the link to the Class of 2014 3.0-3.3 thread:<a href=“Parents of the HS class of 2014 - 3.0 to 3.3 GPA - Class of 20xx Community - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/class-20xx-community/1469626-parents-of-the-hs-class-of-2014-3-0-to-3-3-gpa-p1.html

If you go to the first or second page of this thread I posted links for various threads for Class of 2011, 2012, 2013, West Coast, and several others --all for 3.0-3.3 or 3.3-3.6 .

@kmanshouse I’m sorry it is a very big change coming up. I know a little about the sports I am going to miss watching my daughter play. But I am only losing one. Hang in there.

@SlackerMomMD my daughter doesn’t fit this thread either for GPA but like you she isn’t looking at the kinds of schools that are more the focus of the straight 2015 thread. Maybe it’s changed but I just feel more comfortably here as the schools talked about here are more the kinds she is looking at.

I just wanted to chime in that I too have a child that doesn’t fit this thread for GPA but is looking at the same kind of schools so this thread seemed more relevant to me than the general class of 2015 one. The schools discussed on this thread are the types most of my family and friends and kids’ friends have attended. So please keep posting because I Iove reading it.

I’ll join in the chorus of “loving this thread though D doesn’t fit the GPA territory” - I read and post on both threads but D’s schools fit much better here. But both threads have been a tremendous help and I’m glad to be a parent in the Class of 2015!

We got our scholarship letter from BGSU yesterday. My son gets $7,154 off of the rack rate - lowering the tuition to about $11-12K. This is about what we expected, but we are happy. Nice bargain as long as he keeps a B average there. This would keep things around 20K total cost. Not bad at all.

Yeah!!! D got hers yesterday too…it makes it cheaper than both of our StateFlagships.
Well results are in she went 10 out 10 we are done except for the finally decision!!
Happy Holidays to this great group.
I am so blessed in my life and blessed to find a group of parents to travel this journey with our S and D’s with…thank you.

Congrats @kmanshouse!! And truly congratulations on being DONE @hoosier96! Let us know which school she picks. She (you?) did a phenomenal job in choosing her schools.

We have not heard about any aid at out-of-state state schools yet, although I suggested them to D because of their lower-than-average tuition to begin with. She did get merit scholarships from the two private colleges she was accepted at, much more at one than the other – and, of course, she has her heart set on the more expensive one at this point. I’m hoping they can provide more need-based aid than their net price calculator is showing.

Congrats to those whose path is less murky than ours right now. I’m from Ohio originally, and had several friends at BGSU back in the '80s.

Hi Everyone:

I’m new on this site as a user but I’ve been following the 3.0 - 3.3 threads for two years. I want to thank all of for your posts, as it has helped provide a guide for our family and helped to lessen some of the anxiety during some of my sleepless nights. Our student just got in to some great schools and I wanted to post some quick stats in the event that it might help give some other anxious parent hope and guidance as well.

Quick Stats:
3.2 W GPA
ACT: 28
ECs: Peer leader, mock trial, President of a professionals club, track, business internship and 2 jobs
Issues: ADD child which we divulged on application (which was a real debate but in the end we felt it showed the reason for the discrepancy between the ACT to the GPA which might otherwise have been viewed as a smart slacker)

Our focus was on Northeast public schools so as not to be too far from home as well as issue of affordability

Acceptances:
Rutgers New Brunswick
University of Pittsburgh
Temple (with $$$)
SUNY Albany (with $$$)
Towson

Still Waiting on:
SUNY Binghamton
UMass
UDel
UConn

Here are the lessons I’ve learned through this process:
- Our B students are great kids and many schools are happy to accept them so try not to “overstress” and “overthink” (which is easy for me to say now!)
- As a B student, you have more options than you may realize.
- Get tutoring and take the ACT/SAT as many times as you have to in order to get the score you think you are able to achieve (4th time was the charm for us with LOTS of tutoring in between in order to get there)
- The strength of your ECs and essay do matter … which is good news because this is the area where the student has the most control.

I hope this helps some other parent down the line who is anxiously researching schools for their own B student. From what I’ve read here and experienced myself, it is likely that most students will get in to someplace with which they will be happy!

Great post @NJMom500 - thanks for the input. My son is 3.2/27, so very similar. I agree with everything you are saying, although #3 didn’t apply for us. He took the prep course through the high school, and got his worst score. Private/outside tutoring is likely much better.

Regarding my other twin son - (UW-Stevens Point), found out that a couple of other kids did NOT get in, and I’m thinking his essays/ECs got him into the school. They can really matter.
