Parents of the HS Class of 2015

Congrats @vistajay‌. Great news.
I’ll be watching you all run from the Lido deck with my fruity drink in hand (I’m not a runner!)

Still running, here. I think we may have just crested Heartbreak Hill.

Wonderful news @vistajay!

Congratulations @vistajay & daughter!

Congratulations @vistajay! That’s wonderful news!

My son found out that 5 of the 10 at his HS who applied ED to his previous top choice (down to October 30th), a non-HYP Ivy, got in ED. Several were legacies; one had a father who donated a major amount of money (naming rights and all!). Let’s just say, in the way of teenagers, he said “I’M SURE GLAD I DIDN’T APPLY ED THERE!!” because three of the five are real, well I won’t print it here. He says he hopes no more than one “idiot” (sanitized version) gets in where he applied (and got in) ED (figure it out!).

And the funny part is there were perhaps two Ivy acceptances total in last year’s graduating class.

Congratulations @Vistajay! Full tuition is a FANTASTIC option to have come decision time! :D/

Congrats @rhandco’s son for avoiding the ‘unprintable’ kids that, I’m sure, he feels he has already had to spend to much time with. ;-)

Yes! I think that having her be ‘officially’ an adult, while still being my kid, will take some getting used to. Her doctors’ office has an online service where we can send in questions, make appts, that sort of thing, and I got notification that my access to her information would expire soon. @-) I plan on asking her to fill out the form that allows me to continue it, but it will be up to her.

@shoboemom - my son turned 18 today and also vacillated a lot over what to do. It was planned last minute but ended up with a 4-day birthday weekend, I treated him and 3 of his close (pk3-8th grade) friends to a steak fest at Texas de Brazil, the next day I treated him and 3 high school friends at a burger/pizza place, Both nights the friends hung out at our place afterwards. Sunday I had family over and cooked, Today we went to a local steakhouse but it was ruined by my husband’s childish tantrum. For gifts I gave him a Fossil watch which he loved and several dressy shirts.

Kudos, @vistajay‌, as well as @BunHeadMom‌ and @Mom24boys‌!

Meanwhile, we just had a few tears around here tonight…just not the kind expected. Acceptance for a unique program at a reach school for one of the identical twins! Tears of joy or relief or something - he was soooo happy. Only superseded by Mrs. Cabbage, who did a silent “happy dance” when they weren’t looking, which was unlike anything I’ve ever seen in 20 years of marriage. I didn’t know she could jump that high.

His brother was overjoyed too, although, I suppose it’s because we racked up the pizza and chocolate tonight, then permitted a midweek appointment with the Xbox, and OKed hookey for both tomorrow. We supposedly get another big ED decision on the 16th. Hoping for the best for both, but planning for the worst (as parents, one “yes” and one “no” would be tough).

^^ yay!
(Or is it 2 rather than 3 cheers because a decision is still hanging?)

Want to see nerves? Check out the SCEA thread at Yale. Most of the top schools have already released their EA/ED notifications, but Yale is making the poor kids wait until tomorrow at 5pm.

Congrats on all the good news. Hugs to those getting less good news.
S got into dream reach ED with unexpected generous merit. Such a relief! This evening was in stark contrast to older child’s ED heartbreak several years ago. That kid ended up very happy and successful in a perfect program elsewhere. It does all work out but I can empathize with parents aching for their kids.

@Cabbage1 Congratulations to DS. Hope his twin also gets good news. I have 10 yr old identical twins and am already worried about the stress in 8 yrs.

@shoboemom - Thanks for the kind words! She has rallied today, but is now still hopeful (though hopefully realistic) for her ED decision tomorrow.

@latichever - yup, we are living it! My D is on that thread… AHHH! Hard to see all the other ED kids to HPSM get their decisions while Yale waits…

@vistajay, @cabbage1 and many others - lots of Congrats!!!

@singermom4 - I like your b’day weekend plans! I might have to steal this idea for upcoming twins 18th! :->

@Cabbage1‌ : Being an identical twin, I sympathize with the " thrill,of victory & agony of defeat" with a pair. My clone won a few more of these than I have; he’s my brother & I’m always happy for him; it just makes the winning all the better when it does occur.

Congrats to all those receiving good news, and big hugs to all those for whom the good news has not yet arrived!

D got into Scripps ED! She is over the moon and I am so relieved to be DONE.

Awww, @cabbage1, CabbageMom’s happy dance made me tear up! As parents we really feel their pain and their joy! Here’s hoping both twins get that moment of joy and Cabbagemom gets to dance again!

@kidsrexpensive, Good luck to your D! Hope she gets great news tomorrow!

Even though my D isn’t doing any ED applications, I have been reading the ED threads for the schools she is applying to RD (isn’t everyone? lol) They are exciting, and scary…a roller coaster for sure. I still have that nagging feeling that D should have applied ED, even though I still don’t know which school it should have been! lol

So much good news, congrats to all!
DS, who seemed to take his EA deferral well at first, now seems frustrated and upset. “I just don’t know what else I could have done!” He doesn’t get that there are lots of kids out there who are just as talented as he is :frowning: . Who is our activities director? How about producing a nice musical? I know a bass who could really use the distraction right now. I’ll sing in in the chorus. I’ll paint sets too.

D got into Clark University with a substantial scholarship last week and Brandeis yesterday!

D got her first acceptance last night, Earlham College, with major merit aid. It’s a safety for her, but a lovely school and one we she would be very happy at, so yay! Next up, finishing up the rest of her supplemental essays so she can be done before break and have an actual break. Unlikely, but that’s a great incentive!

Congrats to themom12 and daisychain! It’s nice to see good news in the morning.
