Congrats @vistajay! We have family in LA and it is a great place to visit. And thanks, @shoboemom! I always thought the May 1 deadline meant 11:59 pm that day (or postmark if by mail) - rather than midnight the day before… but best not to leave it up to chance!

. D’s school does something a little different; yes, they have the t-shirt day picture but they have a hat signing day tomorrow. They have a baseball caps hanging up from the different schools were kids have matriculated to, it is cool to see some with just one name on it to others with hundreds. She will be presenting a new cap this year…first to head to USF, and signing her name in green ink :D.

Congratulations @daisychain and @vistajay and to anyone I may have missed! How exciting and what a rellief to come into the home stretch after all this time! As far as I know, there is no tee shirt day at D’s school. I didn’t even realize that was a widespread thing.
WOOHOOO!!! Submitted today after one of the most stressful weeks for my S2. University of Rochester here he comes.

Our school did an academic scholarship signing event. All seniors who received some sort of merit scholarship from their intended schools could participate. It was very nice to see where many of the students were planning to go. 20% of the seniors participated. They also honored those who are joining the military. All students in the school watched. It is great to show them the value of hard work. The school does an athletic signing ceremony separately.
This (and another similar event) helped push DS to an official decision a week before the 5/1 deadline. That made me happy. 
Happy to report that D’s college (seems so unreal that there is actually a college she belongs to ! ) has accepted her gap year ! Matriculation postponed by a year. Boy, they indeed move fast
@KSMom1518 - love the idea of an academic signing. S’ school has an honors convocation for seniors earning academic awards and scholarships.
Whew. Decision is finally made. S will be attending University of Pennsylvania with a gap year. Penn Class of 2020!

So much exciting news! Congrats to all and special shout-out to fellow Team Homeschool member @sbjdorlo on a great outcome. We’ve got a decision here, too; Cornell University, also following a gap year.
Oh, congratulations, @hs2015mom!! I’m so happy for you and your homeschooler, too! What will yours be doing with the gap year?
@kelowna, my son’s not exactly sure of all his plans, but he does know he wants to form a string quartet and get gigs. He wants to finish his idea of writing code (Java) for a certain feature on his insulin pump. He has a number of ideas for video games/stories/animation that might get developed. He might try to find steady part time employment, but he might just really want to try to get as many music jobs as he can. (He just got hired for another summer theater production) He also may do a little traveling, but nothing too big.
But in all honesty, probably the biggest reason for the gap year is to give him more time to mature, and to give us time to set into place everything medically and academically, in order to give him the best chance at success once he hits campus. This means finding local doctors, getting retested for disabilities, and becoming familiar with Penn’s resources in advance, so he knows who/where to turn to in the event he should need help either medically or academically.
One of the biggest blessings about attending Penn is finances. We just found out that he won a special corporate National Merit Scholarship. We are totally grateful and amazed! It will be a minimum of $2000 a year, but will likely be $5000 a year if it patterns after my oldests’ scholarship. So, Penn will be almost a full ride when combining Penn’s need-based aid plus my son’s scholarships. That will take the pressure off of him to do work study. It will be good for him to just concentrate on academics and transitioning to college.
