@Wrestlersmom Thank you SO much for helping educate me (and others). I’m glad that your son is doing well, and like you I am very vocal in my beliefs about only signing up if you are 100% committed to donating to anyone in need. It’s just heartbreaking to get news that there’s a match, only to have them decline.
Since we became involved with this cause we have seen MIRACLES! Medical technology is amazing, and folks are kicking cancer’s ( and a host of other diseases) butts! Together we all can make a difference in a family’s history…pretty cool!
You all are part of why folks are getting a second chance! Fantastic way to end my day…smiling and hopeful for all those who are on the registry.
Forgot to add…private banking is good, but if you have certain conditions, it can be for naught. If your genes are defective, you’ll need to seek another’s cord blood. A big reason for promoting public banking. If everyone did it, can you imagine the relative ease of finding a match? Maybe one of our super smart kids can dream up a way to make that feasible.
Looking at @musictherapymom 's great map, it seems the PA and MA are the leaders in numbers of schools with 7 each. The map shows 6 PA schools but there are actually 7; for some reason there’s just 1 pin for both Univ of Scranton and Marywood.
It looks like NY is the leader in numbers attending schools in that state–there are 5 schools on the map and multiple students attending RPI and Cornell which brings it to 9 students. Unless I’m not counting properly for CA where I think we have 8 students?
@crepes There is probably only one pin for Univ of Scranton and Marywood because they are both in Scranton, Ithaca College and Cornell are probably doing that too…
We’re in a good spot though; most finals are taken already (1 straggler); open house invites are out, orientation is confirmed, and most importantly, the Father/Son Musky opener (June 6th) arrangements have been made!
Last thing on the “College prep list” is a couple of simple online placement tests he needs to complete before May 29th. He’s on his Sr. trip this weekend, and promised to punch those out next week.
I’ve created a slightly different map and I know that’s the case with mine. If two colleges share the same city (and you don’t provide different zip codes), all you see is one pin. Here’s the alternative map - it’s a heat map, meaning the more people, the “hotter” it gets: http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=2c30f898063b4eb8923409aa3b37b852
(I’m pretty sure I have Felicita’s son going to the wrong school)
@SlackerMomMD - Thanks, every time I say DS is going to Grinnell, I get Cornell University, so great he is going to an Ivy. Nice to know some people in Maryland have heard of Grinnell.
Cornell College sounds like such a great school and if my DS were to go to any Cornell it would have been the college. (No disrespect to the University.)
Graduation here is May 23rd. AP Lang/Comp (S’s school is weird – they do AP Lit as juniors) on Wednesday. He has two papers and a project to finish for exam week, but no actual class exams. Classes ended Thursday, and they had senior convocation and a special community service event yesterday. So, basically, he has 1.5 weeks with almost nothing to do. The week after graduation he will spend all day every day at school working on the yearbook with the yearbook staff, and then he leaves for a two-week Philmont (boy scout) trek a few days after that. I had to punt his New Student Conference twice because I snagged the very first date initially but realized it was yearbook work week. Then the opportunity for Philmont fell in his lap, so the second NSC date was toast. Now he’s going right after the 4th of July.
Oh, tomorrow morning is baccalaureate and a senior family brunch – I know I’ll sob through that.
Daughter graduates May 16.
I have to go shopping for a Mother of the Grad outfit.
I would rather be attacked by killer bees AND fire ants while listening to Rush Limbaugh.
Last (6th) band banquet last night. Graduation Tuesday evening (that’s 3 days ). ). I will really miss having DS around but with him being so busy the last couple of years, I think the biggest change is going to be not volunteering for his (and formerly D13’s) band. Whatever will I do with all the time I am going to have now?
Graduation here is May 23rd. This is the last full week of classes!!! AP Physics is Monday and AP Stat is Wednesday this week and then wrestler is DONE! He said he thought the AP Calc BC went well.
I am at a loss for a graduation gift. Any ideas? His grandfather is taking him on a cruise. But honestly, I don’t know that there is anything that he needs or wants that he doesn’t already have.
I received an email this week from Truman saying that some bakers won’t do a cake with their college logo without permission from the college. They sent out a permission email and the logo to use on a cake.
To be honest, I hadn’t thought of doing that before the email, but I intend to do it now.
Graduation is May 29th but you’d never know it with the amount of homework, tests and projects that got piled on this month - she has more homework now than I think I’ve ever seen her do and the stress level around here is palpable. She has AP Bio test on Monday and has not even had the chance to study for that. It may come down to cramming in a few YouTube videos on Sunday night. The last week of May can not come fast enough…
