Parents of the HS Class of 2015

@twogirls I thought you were going to say that for AP Chem, your daughter’s presentation would be about all the chemicals in a box of Cap’n Crunch. Good luck to your daughter on the scholarship.

Last full day of school for seniors here today. Two half-days of senior exams on Monday-Tuesday and they’ll be “graduates in waiting” until the 28th. Hoping S will put the appropriate amount of studying in this weekend for his finals…but we’ll be out of town for D1’s graduation from UMinn so he’ll have to self-motivate. [-O<

Put in the Parchment requests this morning to have D2 and S’s final transcripts sent to their respective universities once senior grades are finalized. Anytime I can mark something off of the “to be done” list…it’s gonna be a good day Tater!! :))

DS is officially done, but he is on a field trip to a competition until Sunday morning. Graduation is Sunday night. School ends next Thursday for underclassmen, including DD18.

Hard to believe Graduation weekend is here!

Some days the morning musical choice is obvious. But this version finds the late B.B. King still in strong voice at the 2010 Crossroads Festival and surrounded by a who’s who of blues guitarists, so it’s worth a listen. I hope everyone has a great Friday and is looking forward to the last day of APs.

@SomeOldGuy That was fun to watch and listen to. His voice was still pretty darn good.

Last official full day of Senior High! Next week is a hodge podge of final projects, tests and early releases. No “senior-itis” as S’15 finished strong with a 2nd Semester 4.0 gpa (weighted and pending some final outcomes). B-)

I did as @Wolverine86 did, and ordered up the final transcripts and grad notice to the Admissions Office.

Hang in there! This whole ride is almost over.

D is officially done with classes in 14 minutes. So weird watching her drive away down the street for her last day of school when I can so clearly remember how she demanded I follow the school bus in the car on her first day kindergarten so I could meet her at school.

My song of the day (and year): Circle Game by Joni Mitchell: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9VoLCO-d6U

S checked off his last assignment yesterday, an interview with his math teacher about their final project, which he turned in on Tuesday (15 minute interview, a portion of the project grade), followed by a multitude of topics (another 45 minutes) since he had her for honors geometry a while back as well. He came home afterward and announced he was officially DONE. Graduation is not until the 23rd, though, so he will be hanging around with nothing to do all of next week. We are going to tackle some two-person gardening jobs and possibly his disaster room, and the yearbook advisor asked if he could be there for graphics work some of the time. D’20 still has 1.5 weeks of normal days and then a couple of days of assemblies and parties. I can’t believe how fast it’s winding down.

Last day of school and 18th birthday today for DS. I’m thinking of putting photos of his first day of life, first day of school and today on my Facebook, plus as a display for his grad party this Sunday (of course, for one of today I’d have to take one today). Think I can do all that without crying? To add to the excitement, he starts a job today at an ice cream parlor. Perfect job for him and I’m so very excited that he’ll be earning some $$ to contribute to his college expenses.

Happy birthday to your S @PhxRising. Today is my D’s 18th b-day too. She finished school on Wednesday.

Happy birthday to the newly-minted 18 year-olds here. And congratulations on school being finished. We have a couple more weeks to go here and they keep piling on the work (even in the AP classes).

I turn 18 a couple weeks before I leave for college.

Classes, finals, AP’s, and all school events done here for DC1, except for graduation ceremony this afternoon.
All the news about where seniors are going to be going to college has my DC2 now thinking hard about next year.

Congrats to @economo and all others who are finished with the work and waiting to make it official with graduation!

DS registered for classes this week and got everything he wanted. Headed across country today to begin his summer adventure so we won’t see him again until August. He was very quiet last night at dinner but doing much better this morning at send-off.

DS last day was yesterday with 4 AP exams(not one day the entire week) and a presentation. This has been a most stressful year and I am so happy it is over. His graduation will be Wednesday and I am sure I won’t be able to stop the tears. I am so proud of him but still so grateful this year is over because sometimes it was really hard to make him keep up with all the work and many activities he had on his plate.

Amen @Smurfette! I felt (Um, feel…still have a month to go!) like I was continually rolling a huge boulder uphill every day, only to wake and find myself at the bottom again. My kid seems to not be worried about this last month, but geez, some of his grades are right on the cusp of dropping a letter grade. June 19 cannot get here quick enough!

I had been bugging, bugging, bugging DS to get a job, especially before all the other kids woke up after school was over and decided to start looking. So he got a job at an ice cream parlor. Now he’s feeling sorry for himself because he has to work during so many activities. His boss even scheduled him to work on next Thursday night, which is graduation, but obviously he needs to trade with someone. He hasn’t received his schedule for the next week, but DS and his two friends are supposed to go on a 5 day holiday to the beach. I think he can ask for at least 3 of those nights off if he works the weekends on both ends and he can fly there or back, but now he’s feeling sorry for himself. I must be tough. He’s never had to pay for car insurance or gas or anything. All he paid for was 1/3 of his debate camp last summer. I never, EVER want to give him an allowance again.

@PhxRising, I worked as am ice cream scooper in high school and first year of college. Scheduling can be a pain. I had to open the ice cream store on move-in day my freshman year, The store was just off campus so my new roommates came by in the afternoon.

Can your son ask for time off in advance for the beach trip? It may mean fewer hours for one or two weeks but with other kids going away, he can probably make up the hours in other weeks.

Friday, we got two letters from the school. One letter saying D was receiving an award, so we were invited to the award ceremony. The second letter warned us D was in danger of not graduating because she was failing a class. ??!! When we logged into the online grading system, she had a 95 in said failing class. This is why I loathe these electronic systems and why I want teachers to notify school administration about failing students instead of an electronic spreadsheet.

I cannot wait for her to graduate.

With four weeks to graduation, our school district just decided to do an “emergency change of venue” for graduation. Essentially the fire marshall told the district that they were no longer allowed to pack all those people in the gym, so it has to be moved to the city-owned stadium. Some people are frothing at the mouth at the change - because it’s not “traditional” and they’re scared it will rain on the ceremony. And, of course, because everyone has already sent announcements with the other location listed.

Anyone else’s child registering for classes for Fall? It is starting to seem real!

We are waiting to hear back from advisor but right now mine is registered for 18 hours - sounds like a lot but doesn’t look like much when you look at her week.
