Parents of the HS Class of 2015

@GoAskDad hugs & prayers.
And to you, @Mom24boys .
You are both in my thoughts.

I’m sorry for all you are going through right now, @GoAskDad and @Mom24boys Sending prayers and positive thoughts your way.

Oh man, I’m so sorry to read this @GoAskDad. Sending healing thoughts to you, and to @Mom24boys’ H.

I’m just going to leave this here to start the day.

Perfect choice as always, @SomeOldGuy. Sending supportive and healing thoughts to @GoAskDad and @Mom24boys.

Many good thoughts to you @GoAskDad and of course continued good thoughts to @Mom24boys.

And a hearty congratulations to @STEMfamily. My D’11 is graduating from college this weekend. Wow did those 4 years go fast. Heck, the last 21.5 went pretty darn fast!

@GoAskDad and @Mom24boys… prayers and healing thoughts coming your way.

My thoughts with you both, @GoAskDad and @Mom24boys. I am a survivor of an often-fatal cancer (diagnosed 11 years ago today, in fact) and I know how horribly scary the initial days of uncertainty and options (each one less palatable than the last) can be.

I second Stand By Me. Try the version by Tracy Chapman from David Letterman a few weeks ago:

Thank you for sharing Tracy Chapman @Barbalot. That’s a very understated but powerful version of the song.

Indeed. That was excellent.

To start today, I’d like to wish good luck to any one of our kids who is heading off for the first day of the AP Econ extravaganza. As you’ll see below, I don’t remember the fine technical details of marginal benefit curves or efficiency frontiers, but I think I internalized the key concepts.

What, no GSM?

The senior “ditch day” thread on the big board reminds me of one of my dad’s funnier stories. During his first year as the HS principal in the town where I grew up, he caught wind not only of the timing of senior skip day but also the location for the party for most of the (very small) senior class. So, after morning attendance, he just hopped in the car and drove out there to gently remind his seniors that they were supposed to be in school. One of the kids answered the door when dad knocked, realized he was totally busted, but managed to ask “so . . . uhhhh . . . wanna beer?”

Needless to say, I didn’t get to participate in senior skip day, although I did take an excused absence for a case of “24-hour ergasiophobia.”

Raise your hand if you had to google “ergasiophobia”!

GSM
(Go, Nigel! Go!)

I did @suzy100 but that was one worth learning and filing away for future use.

I had to look it up. I think DD’17 has whatever the fear of school equivalent is.

Didaskaleinophobia

Thanks @giterdone. That may now replace tintinabulation as her favorite word.

I admit it - I had to google all of these words. Thanks for the vocab lesson! Great words, I can’t wait to use them.

In honor of my daughter’s last AP exam tomorrow morning, she requested a box of Cap’n Crunch. I kid you not. She would also like to visit the dog shelter and get a new puppy. Buying the big red box of cereal is much easier.

D took the calc AP last week but still has a 2 day in class final- today is day 2. She also had the chemistry AP followed by a final and next week she has a chemistry presentation to make - they all had to pick a certain food out of a box and discuss the chemistry behind it ( something like that). School here does not end until the end of June so I feel like they need to keep them busy. She has a Spanish presentation next week followed by a final, and she is taking an economics class through A college and she has a final at some point in June. She had the Lang AP last week. Not sure what they will be doing in these classes for the next 5-6 weeks although I was told that some keep teaching and just move ahead in what would be the next level. Not exactly sure if everybody pays attention but they are not tested on the extra material. She has a dinner next week with the possibility of winning a $12,000 scholarship. I am sure it’s very competitive but we will go and see what happens. If we expect nothing we won’t be disappointed.
