Parents of the HS Class of 2015

I’m not sure if there is a “typical” for forms. My kids’ college puts every form that needs to be completed prior to August in one well-designed spiral bound book that arrives in mid-May. It even has a wall chart calendar with all the deadlines that you can hang up. This has been helpful in herding teenage boys toward the starting line.

@scholarme: DS just received his forms yesterday. I think it was actually a letter that instructed him to go to his portal and fill out the forms online. He actually said his room is just somewhat messy. He wants to be the messier of the two in his room. Poor roommate.

@PhxRising LOL my D did the same thing on her housing app. She said, I know I’m messy but I don’t want a roommate as messy as me.
It will be karma if she gets a roommate who did the same thing.

@Barfly -We loved Veggie Tales. My D couldn’t find her hairbrush in her dorm room last year and broke out in song. Her roommate looked at her like she was nuts. So my D introduced her to a Veggie Tales (found stuff online). Her roommate loved it! Lol!

My favorite veggie tales song is “We are the grapes of wrath, we never take a bath!”
Kid always groaned when I would sing that. Now they shower every day so I never sing it anymore.

@Wolverine86 that is wonderful! Yeah for surprises!!!

My S’ roommate match questionnaire asked if wanted to be best friends with his roommate. While he does not necessarily want to be best friends he’s afraid they’ll just toss out the rest of the answers ‘eh, we don’t need to match this one too closely’ if he answered otherwise!

Meanwhile we are still holding our breaths as S does have to write the Calc BC final. I wish we could just enjoy the graduation, festivities, etc. but this teacher does not feel the urgency for grading in a timely manner so who knows how long we will be left hanging. The finals are held after graduation ceremonies which are on May 31st (exam is June 4th) so we have a long wait ahead of us.

@singermom4 Finals after graduation? That’s cruel! Wishing your son good luck!

Seniors don’t write exams if they have a minimum of a C in the class. S has been having trouble with Calc BC (have written about the saga several pages back) and his admission status could depend on it :frowning:

D still has 2 projects due next week.

@singermom4 Ah, got it. Our seniors graduate after finals, so no last minute worrying. Even more good vibes being sent your way!

@singermom4 like most roommate compatibility questions, its not a question about whether or not you want your roommate to be your best friend, its about how realistic your expectations are. Think “psychological profile” not black and white answers.

If you have expectations that your roommate be your best friend? well, that says something right there.

My girl has finally graduated. It was a long ceremony but some of the student speakers were really great. It’s so amazing to see such young folk have so much poise in front of literally thousands of people. I’m very proud of my D’s school community and of course my kiddo as well. And I’m very thankful that she is done.

Just mailed invitations to a graduation brunch. Then realized we have a time conflict that day. So S will literally be swimming a couple events, rushing home to (hopefully) change out of his Speedo, greeting his brunch guests, then rushing back after his brunch to swim the relays.

I’ve been doing this for 23 years. You’d think I’d have learned to update my &%^$@& calendar.

We still have a month to go in the jolly old land of NJ. Of course we have to fit it physics field trips to Great Adventure and senior skip day and the prom and…after APs it’s a cake walk.

D is off to the race today…left the house at 5:15am only wish she is able to do this on work or school day  this is a big day for her, it is the first time to the race without her parents…I sure hope I do not get a phone call. Graduation in 7 days; room mate assignment this week; staging room started for college and college visit set up for S’17; yes it is been a blur in this house lately, but I would not want it any other way. Shout out to all who have graduated or who has gotten more good news.

Congratulations, @Wolverine86! What a great way to cap things off. I also have a 3rd child with two superstar siblings, and DS '17 tends to feel dumb next to them :frowning: :frowning: . Hoping for a similar outcome for him, some day…

We are officially done! And I mean “done, DONE!” All 4 out the door. Well, not technically, yet, of course. Nothing but a sprinkle of grad parties/open houses left on the school calendar. <:-P S’15’s job wants him back over the summer, but he’s weighing his options. With an overnight orientation in June, a special 4 day Biology class kick off event at the Mississippi headwaters in July; move-in day in August will be here before you know it. :-?

D’12 comes home next week after 4 months abroad! and she’ll be here a week before heading to ATL to train for her internship. She has an apartment off campus for next year, but she want’s to spend a month at home :D/ while working.

Summer will sail by pretty quick!

@scholarme, I have a Ms. Do it later too! She has all the information on her portal and we have none. I am biting my nails that she’s not missing deadlines.

D15 has just finished prom season. She attended the prom for her brother school last Friday and her school prom this past Friday. (Thank God for Rent the Runway or we probably would have gone bankrupt with the prom dresses.) Graduation is this Friday at 7 p.m. It’s in a church, meaning no worries about air horns and loud noises. It’s also in Manhattan. Anyone who’s ever tried to drive into Manhattan at 6 p.m. on a Friday night knows what a mess it is. As a result, DH and I will be working late at our respective offices and will head up to the church by 6:30. D09 gets out of work every Friday at 3 p.m. She will accompany D15 on the train to New York and get her to school. The school has hired a bus to drive the graduates the five blocks to the church. This sounds insane and would be insane except for the fact that the girls don’t wear caps and gowns. They wear long white dresses which the school does NOT provide and requires the parents to go crazy trying to find wedding dresses (for that’s essentially what they wear) that are not strapless, not sleeveless. are the exact shade of white/ivory that the school requires, and will not break the bank. These dresses do not exist. I have just found out that they’re now requiring that D15 come up with white gloves and a shawl to “cover up” because we must be “modest” in church. Clearly the principal has never attended any Catholic church of which I’ve been a member because at my parish, people show up for Mass in shorts, t-shirts, flipflops, and sundresses.
