Maybe the upperclassmen bought the pdfs and are passing them onto her “used”.
That is one thing I do not like about digital books of any kind, it is really difficult to share then or pass them on like you can with “real” books. Even within my family, it is difficult to let them read my e-book if I think they would like it. Also one reason I would rather buy a cd than a digital album.
You can share kindle books! http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_rel_topic?ie=UTF8&nodeId=200549320
Usually textbook pdfs are licenses, not outright purchases.

What you forgot/wish you did?
Anyones kid taking expensive bikes to school? or an expensive computer? Do you need to add these items to a special rider on insurance or does homeowners cover it? We have already registered the items with the school PD and also paid for indoor key card access only parking for his road and mountain bike. He has joined the biking club and has his first ride with them 3 days after he arrives on campus
Thanks for the reminder wrights. I was going to look into the additional insurance for D. The school had some policy on their website that covers students and includes electronics such as computers, pones, ipods, etc. She is taking a relatively expensive computer (macbook) and we are going to get her a nice bike so she can mt. bike. But her most expensive gear will be her two instruments, especially her guitar.
Dont’ forget tuition insurance, folks - for those who are paying bulk of it… I realize it will likely be waste but that’s a pittance compared to what you have to shell out should you need to drop that semester… And no, I am not insurance agent or related to one or work for one
The .pdf versions were textbooks written by two University professors, who had directed students to share them. No worries of copyright infringement, but thanks anyway, @rhandco, for being a voice of “ethics”.
AP Scores… Sharing in case you have not checked if your child’s AP scores have reached college safely… I thought I had completed it all… only to find that college never received these scores. Collegeboard website shows order was processed a MONTH ago. They also told me, it gets mailed - as in postal mail - not electronically transmitted. I am unsure why it takes a month to process and log these but that’s how it is. And college requires ONLY official communication - meaning by college board… so, I am in a pickle but will have to just wait it out… This is not even a situation where college just did not log it yet… They say they never received it!! ugh! Please check for your kids too! Not trying to put panic at last minute but I was sitting pretty for so long… so, just sharing!
Ask if they would at least provisionally accept a screen shot of the College Board page with the scores. The school my son is attending accepted a screen shot for his SAT scores.
I did and they said no. And to think , this was a rush order !!!
Yippee! I just finished my first big chemistry assignment!
@cd2015 My thought is that the scores are lost, especially if there were from a rush order.
I contacted my insurance agent. My policy covers 10% of the value oft assets for my college student. His only valuable item is his laptop so he is more than covered. Of course, the deductible needs to be taken care of first.
Be careful with making homeowners claims when the total value of the loss is just over the deductible. We had some houses across the street that were flooded in the basements 2-3 times because of a main leak. The owners filed claims and I think the HOA paid the deductible. On the third filing, the coverage was cancelled! We all learned that even small claims count as ‘1’ claim, and on ‘3’ they cancel.
You might be better buying a policy from Square Trade. I had one on our phones and it was great, easy to file the claim, sent a new phone the next day.
@ bopper we just moved in yesterday. We packed mostly in boxes which worked well for SUV and hand trucks once we got there, we did not use bins. Heavy duty trash bags over hanging clothes, D had lots of hanging clothes. We had to go out to buy more command strips, more power strips and a pad lock for desk drawer. I had scissors in my purse for opening boxes.
We had not seen the room so we had to wing some of that. We brought back some things that she could not use, but not too much. Husband is packing guru so he made the car work, he did pack many tools that we never needed - but he was prepared.
I didn’t take enough pictures
We were lucky that roommate was there and hour before so she was “in” and gone to lunch when we arrived, had we all been in the room at once it would have been crazy. I did make effort to take rug in first and get it down before boxes piled up, and I had all the bedding stuff together and labeled,( thanks CC), so I was able to get bed set up quickly.
@ITBgirl - you put down the carpet first? I was going to put it down last but am now reconsidering. Btw - it is 6’ x 4.5’ area rug and S will have a lofted single.
@singermom4 ours was larger and we had to put in under beds and furniture. When I was leaving I did notice some paper and foam bits on it so waiting until after if you can might be good from a mess standpoint.
Is there anyone else here who is dealing with a late start date? I’m feeling kinda lonely, it’s 5 weeks before my daughter moves into dorms, and another several days after that before classes start.
