I actually think it’s ok to say 'I was hoping we could make this a family weekend. Can your friend make the trip some other weekend?"
Well, miracles happen, 1) I got my chemistry lab grades back and 2) they were perfect scores!
Way to go @albert69 !! Sounds like some Birthday Cake Ice Cream from Coldstone might make a nice little self-reward :D/
@Wolverine86 There’s the soft-serve ice cream machine to help with celebrations… though it’s the last thing I need right now because I’m congested. Thanks though, it’s the first thing I’ve gotten a perfect score on in the course (unless you count the online homework, but you can just repeat that til you get it right.)
D15 texted me a pic of her newly vacuumed room. Apparently she was able to borrow a vac from another girl. She said it helped her de-stress. I am shocked as this is my messy kid.
She is in a suite where they share bathrooms and she also texted me a pic of a sign she put up on how to clean the bathroom and a sign up sheet. She said she was impelled to do it when she couldn’t wash her face without making a face.
Who is this kid? LOL. I am proud of her.
@scholarme… I bought my son the dirt devil stick vac on amazon. $20… and he has already used it!!!
I sent my messy daughter with a vac also and she has used it…i almost fainted…but the bed still not being made LOL
Unfortunately my housekeeping habits have not improved much. I’ve taken to washing my sheet every other week and I contribute to cleaning the common areas out of respect for my suitemates, but as for my room… it’ll wait until the health and safety checks happen.
Do you have your own room, albert? That’s pretty cool. Washing sheets every other week is good!
@scholarme Yep, I’ve got my own room. I’m glad because it can be messy and it doesn’t bother my suitemates, which it probably would if I had a roommate.
I feel confident that the navy sheets my D’20 and I put on S’s bed when we moved him in will still be on there when we move him out in May (he usually sleeps on top of the comforter with a blanket at home anyway), so I’m impressed that you’re washing yours, @albert69!
He has claimed he is putting his dirty clothes in the laundry basket, which is a huge change from home, because it he commented that his roommate leaves his dirty stuff everywhere.
I am an actual adult with a cleaning person and I only change my sheets every other week.
Feeling a bit distressed and helpless at the moment. The good news is that S made the jazz latin band (winning the audition over many senior players) and the bad news is he has a schedule conflict. He wouldn’t have had a schedule conflict if he hadn’t tried to change a class (recommended by a professor) then told the should have stayed with the original but the original got filled after he dropped it so he ended up with an evening class which conflicts with the jazz band. He asked the professor if he could sit in on the lecture in a different section but was told the sections are different (? - same class and instructor). I suggested he go to his advisor in case they can open up a spot for him (highly unlikely) - uggh! Feel he really needed a structured activity like jazz band and he was so excited to get the spot (he is a percussionist so only one drummer per band).
Well don’t a feel like the doofus… the SI instructor makes practice exams for the tests based of her old tests and distributes them to the students who attend the sessions. But I didn’t attend the sessions prior to last test - thought I was getting it. Now that I know that I’ll attend them… I know, I should have before. She went over some problems which was good practice.
I’m chewing my nails off right now because there was a career fair on Tuesday and something happened, but I’m not sure what… I was talking to one of the recruiters for Textron Aviation, and she was very impressed by my resume. She told me she was going to mark it with a 1 and that I should apply online that night because I’d be at the top of a list that someone was going to be looking at the next morning. This is for internships next summer. She said that someone should call me with an offer. I don’t know what to think, and I was so stupid I didn’t even get her name or anything - she gave me a business card and I thought it was her card but it was actually just a general one for Textron. And I didn’t have a cover letter to send in with the application, so I wrote one in like 1 hour and submitted it with it because it seemed imperative to have my applications in that night. Can anyone who perhaps more experience with careers in general please tell me what you think this means? I don’t know how to wait and I couldn’t contact anyone even if I wanted to since I don’t know anyone.
Albert - how about going to the career center and asking them for the contact information for the Textron representative?
^^^I should, good point. I wonder if they would have it…
I’ll go there tomorrow.
@albert69 There is a great resource called “Ask a Manager” (askamanager.org) that has great advice on job interviewing. What she would say is just use the application method that they tell you to use. If she said to apply via the website, then do that. What askamanager would say is that they thought you had a good resume. However, others may also have a good resume. You have to be patient as the recruiter may have one timeframe, but the hiring managers may have another. I would contact your career center like VMT said, and then just send a “Thank you for interviewing me, I look forward to hearing from you” type email. Don’t start calling or bugging her or demanding to know when they will respond…otherwise they think you are someone who does not understand business norms.
BE PATIENT.
@VMT @bopper Thanks for the advice and research on my behalf! I went to the career center today, and though they know what companies were present at the career fair they have no contact information for anyone that represented each company there. So I still have no contact info for the woman. They did check if they had been doing on-campus interviews the following day because some companies were, but Textron was not among them. So I didn’t get passed over for that. I have no choice but to be patient… and the people at the career office were rather surprised that Textron had expressed interest in me because I’m a freshman. But they said that if I got a call offering me an interview then I should call there and they’d get me in for a mock interview. So I have no choice but to be patient.
Great advice from @bopper . It is unusual for a company like Textron to bring on freshman for summer internships. You must have made quite an impression.
