guys - what does the jail on someone pix mean?
That person has pissed off the moderators and is on probation. I’m not sure what types of infractions cause this, but if the jail bars come off if they are infraction free after a period of time (6 weeks, 2 months,???)
Actually, it means that the user has committed a major infraction of Terms of Service; there’s no emotion involved.
^ I would make a joke, but the last time I did that to a mod, I got bars. :-S @Skieurope is correct. ^:)^ ^:)^ ^:)^
The jail question raises another question in my mind. Is there an FAQ somewhere that answers questions like this and others like how to do the cool quote thingy @skieurope did above. I know I’ve seen these kinds of questions asked and answered in various threads but I’m wondering if there is some central place to look that I just haven’t found let.
Nope.
@mom23travelers Would be nice to have that. For the quotes
[q uote] quoted text here [/q uote] but take out the space in “quote” for it to actually work.
Yes, I knew I had seen something about the bars before and I looked around then gave up and came here, I knew this group/thread would know the answer and would respond in a timely manner, thanks all!
My D15 has been home for part of her spring break and some at the NC coast with classmates, I can’t believe who quickly this year has passed!
Everyone else have living arrangements for next year? My D has opted to stay on campus, I am thrilled she will stay one more year in the dorm, she was offered an RA position but it wasn’t in her current dorm so she turned it down, I was okay with that since I hadn’t thought about the fact that RA position would limit her over nights off campus - at home. She doesn’t come home much, but I want her to have the option.
@mom23travelers, there is a forum thread for quotes at: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/community-forum-issues/1290677-how-to-quote-posts-tutorial-p1.html. It’s pretty funny because it consists of folk practicing the
Also, I found this primer when I first got onto CC to figure out how to bold, change colors, etc.: https://www.proboards.com/forum-help-guide/bbcode. It seems to work for CC.
There is a page for the TOS: https://auth.collegeconfidential.com/module.php/hobsonspolicies/policy.php?policy=tos
Mine has living arrangements for next year selected. Will remain “on campus” in an apartment style dorm. The dorm is the furthest from main classroom buildings, but she is excited about it. She will have one of the single rooms and a combo of commuter meal plan and cooking for herself. A nice transition in the direction of independence. Her roommies are going to find out what a good cook she is though…
It is hard to believe we are seven weeks shy of the end of freshman year. She hadn’t even been accepted yet at this point last year! She is so happy and that is the best!
D2 will be living off campus in a furnished 2 br/2 bath apartment. Lexington has a lot of very reasonably priced apartments for students, so she’ll be a little less than a mile off campus with a direct bus route. No plans for a car at this point, since parking on campus is limited. She’d have to park at the football stadium and walk from there anyway, so for most of her classes it’s easier to take the bus and get off at a stop nearer to the academic buildings.
Even with a 12 month lease her costs will be a few thousand dollars less than on-campus room and board and her scholarship pays the same amount either way, so she’ll be able to put some money away to put towards grad school down the line. As a Psych major she knows she’ll need at least grad school (possibly more) depending upon which direction she opts for career-wise.
The 12 month lease also gives her the opportunity to stay in Lexington over the summer(s) if she chooses to and work, look for internships/research opportunities, take an extra class or two to accommodate a double major, etc. She’s really excited about the independence of apartment living, but is going to have to rapidly get over her dislike of leftovers if she’s going to keep her grocery costs to a reasonable level.
She and Mrs. Wolverine are on the road headed home as I speak (type) for Spring break!!

My son decided to apply last month as an individual for the on-campus apartments. There is no published application deadline, and he has no idea if he is actually in or not. They don’t even say WHEN they will let students know.
He is at a drum corps camp this weekend and then coming directly home for spring break. Told us in advance that he probably be too busy (read: having too much fun with his buds) until Sunday night to text, and then even texted us when he arrived that he was putting his phone on Airplane Mode. I’m content just knowing he arrived safely and happy that he is anticipating a great weekend!
Haven’t been on the boards for a LONG time. Nice to see that many are still keeping up with each other.
D is heading back to school today. Spring break is over tomorrow. She’s chosen a room on campus for next year with a roommate. They missed out on the on campus apartment openings by a couple days. (Appointments for choosing on campus housing were done by credit hours earned.) She at least got a dorm on campus. Most students live off campus. I’m kind of glad we aren’t having to add one more variable to next year’s plans.
She seems pretty happy at her school and is considering options with her major, but she’s sticking with it for the time being. Her summer plans are to come home and get a job. She thinks it might be one of her few opportunities to do that since she’ll be required to take summer courses and/or attend summer programs in her field (or tour) the future.
My D spring break started Friday - she was going to go with friends to NYC and stay for a few days in an airbnb rental but yesterday she texted me she said she’s staying on campus as while her friends wanted to go, no one actually made the concrete plans. I’m encouraging her to get off campus for a few days and go somewhere - to NYC, Boston, or check out the Adirondacks, but we’ll see. She mostly wants to sleep–her study load has been pretty heavy this semester so far.
She applied for a dorm with 4 of her friends who all want to live together (she’s made a pretty tight circle of 4-5 friends), but I haven’t heard if it came through or not. Sophomores are required to live on campus.
@PhxRising I’m sure things will work out with your D - sometimes it’s just a phase that young people go through, and then something happens - something we didn’t even expect or plan for - that turns them around or gets them going in a better direction. Your love and support are making all the difference in the world for sure.
Can someone clue me in on what DD and DS mean?
Darling Daughter/Son
@ITBgirl I see - so those kids are a step up from the regular D and S?
@insanedreamer -yes, now that they are officially out of the house, yes they are darling!
