Hi Everyone. First time checking in here. I have a S15 but have been busy getting D13 ready for college. This year for the first time AP scores will not be mailed. You set up a college board acct if you don’t have one yet and check them online 7/5-7 depending on what state you live in. They mention it in the AP booklet your child brings home when finished with last test. Schedule here: [AP Online Scores for Students - AP Exams and Courses](<a href=“View Your AP Scores – AP Students | College Board”>View Your AP Scores – AP Students | College Board)
We couldn’t bear to wait for mail last year so wasted money to phone for scores. S15 had only AP calc this year as he thought the AP world hist had a bad teacher. Then they did a last minute teacher switch to a better teacher but he didn’t want to mess with his schedule.

@celesteroberts, Welcome! And thanks for the reminder of the online scores. I just checked. They’ll be available online on 7.8. D is leaving for London on 7/6. Too bad we won’t find out before she leaves. I remember last year there was an option, something like early July, if you’re willing to pay some money (I remember it wasn’t much) you can get the score a week or two earlier.

AP World History going on now for my S!!!

Good luck to everyone on their finals and AP tests!! Today is the permit test for my daughter LOL. OHmom- sorry to hear about your dad.

There is now an announcement on the Parents forum for everyone to see:

[College Confidential - Announcements in Forum : Parents Forum](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/announcements.html)

Maxwellequations – congrats to your D on scholarship to Cambridge! How exciting for her!

momsings – my D sat WHAP this morning, too. She is relieved to be DONE with APs for this year. Next turning her attention to SAT subjects (hopefully Math, Chem, and WH) on June 1st. Then a final spring of schoolwork and finals in late June.

celesteroberts – Howdy and welcome aboard! If you feel up to writing it, we’d love to hear a retrospect of what you experienced / lessons learned from your D13’s application process.

Your schools allow AP classes in 10th grade? My daughter has to wait until next year to take dual enrollment and AP. She’ll have Dual English, AP History and AP Biology, but they are only allowed to take 2 AP each year because of how their schedules are. They do an entire class in one semester, so they usually take 4 classes that are 2 hours per day. But AP is usually a full year, and there are only 2 slots for classes that are only an hour a day. I think that may not be true for all the AP, but they aren’t allowed to take AP Govt til their senior year no matter what. I’m not sure why that is.

My daughter was invited in the Beta Club this week. We don’t have National Honor Society. I have no idea if how they compare. I’ve seen people say they have done both and I hope schools realize that her school doesn’t offer the NHS.

@Max - Congrats to your D! That sounds really exciting and impressive. Is she interest in studying international relations/business or is it just what they offer over the summer? Hope she has great time.

@Laclos - yes, our school district allows kids to take AP courses/exams as early as 9th grade. D and all of her classmates took at least 1 AP last year (AP Govt), and 2-4 this year. They will take 4-6 Junior year (plus 2-3 IB), similar numbers in Senior year (plus 3-4 IB). How do you like your school’s “double period” approach? (I think) Our neighboring school district offers it the same way as yours. Not sure why some schools offer that way but I don’t necessary think it’s the good way to implement APs, IMHO.

There are some good things and some bad with the way they schedule their classes. On the one hand, my daughter was able to take French 2 and 3 in one year because they do an entire year in one semester. So she had finished her language requirements by the end of 9th grade which freed up other blocks. They don’t offer French IV so we had to do that through a virtual school in her free time. Another thing I like about this system is that she only ever has about 4 classes at a time to work on, so she’s never piled up with homework. I mean she’ll have a lot of chemistry and a lot of math to do but it’s focussed. I think she is able to get the most out of the classes by having fewer of them.

What I don’t like is that there are some subjects that don’t lend themselves to concentration. Foreign language is an example of that. P.E. is another. My daughter takes up foreign languages easily, so it worked out okay for her. But P.E. nearly killed her.

I think it’s great your kids were able to take the AP classes earlier. It has to be better to spread them out over the full high school tenure.

Thanks all. D. is interested in international stuff, either business or law. Cambridge will be a great experience for her.

@FromMD, hope our kids did well in their APUSH. My d. did APUSH and chem. She said she felt a lot better about APUSH than chem.

@Laclos, our high school even allows freshmen to take AP - only one, which is AP US government and politics. Sophomores can take environmental science. My D. got in chem because of a summer program she did last summer. Somehow she got into APUSH. don’t remember the details. But in general, there is one AP available for freshmen, one for sophomores.

At DD school, students can take APUSH as a freshman, AP Gov NSL as a sophomore, and full IB diploma or IB/AP combination as a Jr. Sr.

APUSH as a F started last year. You will need recommendation from your 8th grade teacher and write an essay why you want to take the class. DD decided not to and did honors. She finished AP Gov this week. She’s signed up for AP World History next year but now she wants to switch it to Honors WH. Does anyone have any experience with that class? Our History teachers are amazing but I hear this class can be a lot of work.

@Max - Thanks. D told me APUSH exam was hard but “ok.” She said multiple choice section was harder than the essays. She told me, for every problem, she knew answer was there, just didn’t know which one… Sigh… At least she still has her sense of humor.

She schedule slows down between now till end of June (only one SAT ii and finals left) and then picks up again for summer activities and getting ready for next school year. Fun never stops.

Sorry for the intrusion - and best of luck to everyone on their AP tests this week.

I’ve started a thread in the Community & Forum Issues - College Confidential area to discuss the CC board changing the various thread names and the creation of this sub-forum. Please feel free join us there to discuss the changes in an appropriate place (which avoids violating the TOS.)

Maxwell, my D would be so jealous of your D. (Heck, I’M jealous!) I looked into the program for her but we couldn’t swing it. I hope she has a wonderful time!

Need some advice here: I do not think that D was well-prepared for the APUSH exam. Her teacher didn’t prepare them well, and she didn’t study as much as she should have. I have signed her up for the SATII in American History. It’s the Saturday after her finals week, so I don’t think she will have time to study. Would you have your child still take it? She’s not a math/science kid, so the SATIIs that she would take are English and perhaps French. Was hoping to include Am History but not so sure that’s a good idea now. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Do you have the college board’s blue book- Official study guide to all SAT subject tests? It has a full length real test for each subject. She could take it to see how she feels about it. No DBQ or essays, so has got to be easier in that respect. Also, college board has the free pamphlet for subject tests that they put in GC’s offices which has 15 or so sample questions for each test.

celesteroberts, I didn’t even know that study guide existed. I looked on Amazon and it looks like the latest one they have is from 2006. Is that correct? Thanks for the help! I’ll keep looking to see if I can find it somewhere else. Can’t seem to find it on the collegeboard site either!

Ack! Nevermind, I found it. Thanks so much!

The one I have is pub date 2011, but may be identical to the 2006 one you saw. Not sure. When you’re in a hurry, Barnes&Noble usually has every kind of test guide you can think of. It’s more expensive than Amazon, but they e-mail occasional coupons to members for 20% off an item and also get the regular member discount.

@Maxwell, Congratulations to your D!! That’s so exciting. We looked at the program as well. D. really wants to do it, but we just thought it was too expensive. It must be great that your D. got the scholarship!

My D. will take history SAT too, on 6/1. She took AP this year. Hopefully SAT will be okay.
@suzy, How will your D. prepare for the French test? My D. wants to test a foreign language. but she’s heard those are really hard.

@celeste Welcome to the 2015er parents! I always appreciate the info you post.

My son said he thought AP’s went ok (especially after he got the last Calc problem done in the last 15 min because he forgot to turn the page and didn’t see it earlier ). Said APWH was ok but that could mean about anything. Two days of finals left.
