Parents of the HS Class of 2015

Thanks for the FAFSA information all!

Yay to latichever’s S!

My D wants to continue the job she has now through the school year, but I worry that it’s going to be too much because she’s got a rough schedule for next year. She make look into reffing soccer, but I don’t think she’d be thrilled with having to cover early morning games on the weekend.

My D does it for basketball, which she stopped playing after 7th grade, and she plans to add LAX next year. It IS a terrific gig, they are well paid for kids and as a 15 year old her work options are pretty limited.

Hey for anyone who doesn’t know, AP test results are coming out next Monday. You can get scores early starting Friday (depending on where you live - D can’t get hers until Saturday) by signing on to your CB account and then putting in your AP#.

@latichever - I am so impressed. Well done to Your son. Fabulous demonstration of initiative!

Bah. Chances are I’ll be on a plane when AP scores became available. Same as when June SAT results came out. I’m spending way too much time on planes this year. :p

Oh well, at least it will keep me from “peeking.” :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :p

We kind of obsessively checked for ACT scores last week, finally got them (first time she’d taken it, I thought she did fine but she’s not thrilled with the 29. Perhaps she’ll study next time…).

I forgot all about AP scores, thanks for the reminder! AP Euro is the only one she took and it was a bit of a nail biter.

I have D’s permission to check her scores. :)

OHMomof2, that’s a good score! D took APUSH - nail biter on that one because she really did not study enough.

Safe travels mihcal!

Haven’t been here for a while. took a while to catch up.

AP, we look forward to getting the scores. D. will be away Saturday. hopefully she’ll check her scores before she leaves.

She will be in Europe the rest of the summer. England for an academic camp 4 weeks. then 2 weeks of traveling. She is so looking forward to it.

@suzy - keep an eye on your D’s working schedule. My D is working but she plans to quit before Junior year starts. We both know she won’t be able to do work without hurting her school work.

@max - Wow… that sounds great. She is a very lucky young lady. Hope she has a lot of fun… Safe travel!

D is taking SAT assessment test this morning to figure out which sections she needs to work on. June SAT II test wasn’t good but given the fact she only spent few hours in prep work, she knows it’s on her. Hoping for better AP scores.

Happy 4th!

Thanks suzy. She knows what she wants and she has a year, and if needed, a half to get there. Funny thing is her ACT and PSAT lined up almost perfectly on that concordance chart, PSAT slightly ahead. I think she’ll take both twice, unless she gets what she wants sooner.

SAT II…many colleges accept the ACT instead, but not all. I guess once we have some kind of list she’ll decide whether to do those. Math 2 and one of the sciences, maybe Chem, seem like good ones for next spring.

Anyone whose child took the ACT…are you thinking of ordering the answers? They offer it for $19, presumably similar to the report that comes with the PSAT. I feel like for writing at least it might be useful.

Maxwell I am jealous of your D! I was an exchange student myself as a junior in HS, to Paris, and have tried to get D interested in doing a language program abroad but she is not at all interested. I tried to tell her how French became a breeze to me after my time there, and Spanish could be for her, but so far no dice. The summer Oxbridge program (is that what she’s doing?) looks very cool to me.

^ I see the concordance chart for ACT/SAT, but is there one for the PLAN ACT/ PSAT? I can’t find one that gives an estimate for PSAT or even SAT based on PLAN scores, but maybe it does not exist. The PLAN goes up to 32 while the ACT goes up to 36. My daughter is doing her first round of ACT/ SAT testing in December- the 7th and 14th.

OHMom I may be wrong, but I think you can order the tests with the answers for certain months but not all. Correct me if I am wrong…

Maxwell that’s great! What an amazing summer she will have.
FromMD good luck on the assessment. My daughter is doing her SAT vocabulary every night as well as her summer reading. She just ordered a novel in Spanish ( Mockingjay?) to help with AP. She also told me that on Friday she will take her first practice test from the blue book. The SAT tutor told me not to score it- he wants to do it with her. I don’t know if I will be able to contain myself!!
Happy 4th!!

maxwell, so jealous of your D’s travels!

twogirls, on the PLAN report it will give you an estimated range for the ACT. Here’s another place I found that you can use if you can’t find the score report: url=http://www.mybookezz.org/ebook.php?u=aHR0cDovL3d3dy5zdW1taXQtYWNhZGVteS5jb20vdXNlcmZpbGVzL2NsYW5nbGUvRmlsZS9NaWNyb3NvZnQlMjBXb3JkJTIwLSUyMEVYUExPUkUsJTIwUExBTiUyMGNvbnZlcnRlZCUyMHRvJTIwRXN0aW1hdGVkJTIwQUNULnBkZgooZXN0aW1hdGVkKSBQTEFOIFNjb3JlIEFDVCAtIFN1bW1pdCBBY2FkZW15</a> PLAN Score ACT - Summit Academy - MyBookezz.org

Yes I have the score report for the PLAN with the estimate for the ACT ( there is a range). She takes the PSAT in October, so I was wondering if there is a chart that can estimate your future PSAT score range based on PLAN results. It probably does not exist. I am curious as to how she may do on the PSAT. I guess I can score the SAT practice test that she is taking Friday even though the tutor told her not to ( but he did not tell me LOL)… I have to think about this one!

Meanwhile there is no rest for the weary- she leaves at 7:30 am for her camp job and I pick her up at 4:15. We come home for 20 minutes and then it’s off to drivers ed until 7:00. Then we go to the track where she runs and I walk ( maybe I will try a slow jog). When she comes home she eats and does her work- reading and vocabulary. She LOVES being at camp and is very happy, but I feel bad that she does not have much down time- a little bit of unstructured time would be nice. I decided to keep my comments to myself since she is not complaining. She actually has over 3 weeks off between camp ending and school starting.

The PSAT to SAT is pretty straightforward, you just multiply by 10. Is that what you were asking?

No- I am just confusing everyone LOL. Is there a chart that can predict what your PSAT score may be this coming October based on how you scored on the PLAN? I am sure there is no such chart.

I don’t think even the concordance chart for ACT and SAT is supposed to predict either one, it’s just a way of telling if you are “better” at one or the other so you can decide which to send to colleges or which to focus study on.

My S, now a college soph, did much better on his ACT than on his SAT according to that chart, so we only sent ACT scores to colleges.

Yes I realize that my request was a bit crazy, but I figured that I would ask anyway. My older daughter took each test twice and did much better on the ACT, so that is what we sent.

With the recent discussion of studying in the UK, I’m finally throwing in my introduction hat, lol, after lurking from the time this thread started. Some of you I “recognize” from previous lurking on the 2012 thread. DD class of 2012 is a fully enrolled undergrad at Oxford and just completed her first year there. In late August, DD class of 2015 is headed to Europe for a year of study abroad. So not only are we early empty nesters (boarding school), but both will be overseas. DD 2015’s passion is archaeology and she’s been talking for awhile about studying and eventually living abroad. She asked yesterday about doing some SAT study since “everyone seems to be doing it” but no APs or SATIIs yet … It really isn’t emphasized at her school. I’ll order the college board study guide and she can work on that in addition to her language preparation and her internship. Good to “meet” all of you.

^ Hi Winker glad to meet you!! I was a lurker on the HS class of 2012 and started posting towards the end after everyone graduated. Your rising junior daughter will be away for a year? WOW !! Both of my kids talk about going abroad for a semester, but we haven’t gotten there yet. Even though I know it’s a great experience and I would not stop them, I will be a nervous wreck. Oh well… One day at a time.
