Welcome Felicita!

Welcome Felicita!! I am a little sad right now- today was the last day of camp ( they both worked there) and my older one goes back to college next weekend. I hope I don’t lose it next weekend LOL. The end of summer is here- ugh

Welcome Felicita. S15 going to visit Georgetown this Monday :)

Welcome Felicita!
We want to visit Georgetown too. Hopefully some time this year.

Talking about GPA, D. just found out hers. She must rank pretty high, because we didn’t know this - her AP chem counted as two APs.

She signed up for SAT U.S. history again. Hopefully this time she will remember there are 90 questions instead of 60.

I’m finding it frustrating that our school doesn’t seem to use naviance. I feel like we are missing out on info I’d like to have. I find myself wondering if colleges are at all familiar with our highschool.

It’s a nice tool but not the be-all end-all. If you want to see what it’s like, try this one:

https://succeed.naviance.com/family-connection/auth/login/?hsid=episcopal

Just click “I’m a guest”. It’s a HS in Jacksonville so to get a good idea of how the graphs and stuff work, try a Florida state school or other southern school.

OHMom, Thank you! That is pretty cool. I love the acceptance history, and scattergrams, just to get a look at where kids in your school are applying! At least then, if you see that your school is sending many applications, or at least several, to a college, you can feel more confident that the college knows about your school.

Does anyone know how much is costs a school to get Naviance?

I suspect it depends on the features wanted and how many students and so on. But here is the site if you want to pass it on to your HS: [College and Career Readiness Platform for Schools and Districts - Naviance | College and Career Readiness Solutions - Naviance](http://www.naviance.com/schools/)

Welcome Felicita! Georgetown was one of my dream schools when I was in high school. Alas, it was not to be. Great school.

Thanks for the link to the guest Naviance. I was curious about it. I wish our school would use that. I was googling earlier and discovered that the local military school uses it, but not our high school.

And - DD’s schedule finally got hammered out. It’s AP European History instead of Latin. I think the Latin would be more practical but I guess I’m glad she’s getting another AP for the “rigorous curriculum” checkbox.

My daughter’s school once put another student’s SAT score on her Naviance account- oops. It’s important to pay attention.

My D’s school doesn’t have Naviance either. Kind of a bummer. I need to see if they keep any kind of stats that are comparable, but I doubt it.

Glad the scheduling issue mostly worked out, Laclos. I took two years of Latin in high school - let’s just say it was not a favorite subject.

Our high school doesn’t use Naviance either. Thanks for the link…I have been very curious to see what it is all about.

Wow, so many people visiting Georgetown! Let me know if I can answer any questions… My son loved the diversity and acceptance of all that the school offered when we first visited. It went right up to the top of his list of schools. He also was admitted to Notre Dame, but realized he wanted a more diverse school climate.

Georgetown is one of the local schools that DD would consider if they gave some type of FA. The Admissions rep. told us that they only give athletic and need based aid.

4CM,
yes, that is correct regarding merit money at Georgetown. S13 gave up a merit full ride to our state U and merit tuition at another state U to attend Georgetown. It was a better fit for him and we are fortunate to be able to pay the tuition. If money was an issue, he would have attended the full ride school and been very happy there. Good luck with your search!

Felicita…I’m very interested to hear about your son’s Gtown experience. That is the #1 on each kid’s future list as hubby is an alum. He loved every minute he spent at that school and the love the alumni have for Gtown carries over into the professional world. My kids have been many times since they were little and my D recently went to softball camp there and got the dorm experience. I hope she can get in. H is hearing many of his classmates’ kids have been rejected in the past 2 years.

The top forum questions keeps popping up on my screen…“Take a horse to school” on the Parents Forum. Every time I read this I can’t help but think “If you take a mouse to school…”

Keepmecruisin – I keep thinking about that old canard about leading a horse to water. . .

KMC,

It seems like admission to Georgetown is getting more and more difficult every year. The stats for the Class of 2016 were:

14.7 acceptance rate
97.6 percentile rank
SAT CR 680-770
SAT Math 680-760

My son was at the top end of these ranges. Three kids from his school were accepted, but he is the only one attending…the others took the full ride offers from state schools.

IJustDrive - I opened that thread thinking it was going to be about making a kid go off to college, only to have the kid stubbornly refuse to study. I was disappointed when I opened it to discover it was literally about a horse.
