All honors colleges are not created equally. You will see a variance of one honors class per semester to all or 90% honors classes. One is not necessarily better than the other but make sure you ask so you aren’t surprised.

So what does everybody do the night before the SAT? I want my daughter to eat a healthy dinner and I want to make sure we have batteries ( we will check before Friday). Pencils need to be sharpened ( not 25 like I did with my older one). I am going to spend one hour reviewing her vocabulary book with her- it only takes an hour. I want her in bed at a reasonable hour. Yesterday I was nervous because she was achy with a sore throat ( everyone at school is sick) but today she is much much better- I am happier now. One girl last year took the ACT with a 102 degree fever and still managed to get a 34. Not sure how my daughter knows the score considering she tells everyone else to MYOB.

When all is said and done I will know that she gave it her all on both tests. She has been prepping since September 4th. Sunday morning she will take her last practice ACT which will get reviewed the following week and then we just sit back and wait for both scores to come in. I just need to remind her to write neatly.

Ahs I am just starting to learn about honors colleges now and your suggestion is an excellent one. Thanks.

Eat fish!!!

I like that guy.

Sally yes I think I will get her sushi from a restaurant where we trust the fish LOL. BHM I agree with you- I like that idea as well. It adds confidence to the kid who is already anxious and allows them to unravel a little from their tightly knit Type A clothing.

Sushi night before any major exams (hmm…that would argue for signing D up for exams every month…)

I agree BunheadMom, I like that guy. D said she’d rather be in the top half with a variety of students.

There is an interesting thread on pros/cons of Honors colleges going on right now: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1584537-why-wouldnt-i-want-admitted-honors.html

My D. is a NSLI-Y semifinalist!! We’re so excited. We celebrated it with beer - all but the semi finalist were allowed to have this part of the celebration. Yay she’s going to come back home after summer and talk like a Chinese person.
Who else applied? who else made it?

Maxwell…Congrats to your D!! It sounds like a really wonderful opportunity for her. Of course, a couple of beers with the family would’ve been special too…but there’s plenty of time for that…when she’s of age. :)

Congratulations to your D Maxwell! D did not apply. When will you find out if she is a finalist?

Maxwell congrats despite the fact that I don’t know what that is exactly LOL!! Can you explain?

@twogirls LOL! It’s a program sponsored by the State Department. Kids go to a foreign country to learn the language total immersion way. All is paid for, even including airfare and visa application. Kids can also apply for a year long program. D. applied for summer in China.

@suzy, they have to do interview(s) and fill out a lot of paper work. They said interviews in Feb. and final letter in March or April.

Thank you friends! This makes waiting for PSAT score less stressful. At least she is a semi finalist of SOMETHING. LOL

Fantastic!!!

Congrats Maxwell’s D…that is fantastic!! Good luck the rest of the way :)

Ah, that made me laugh.
Good luck to her!

Congratulations Max!! That’s awesome! I really wanted D to apply to this program and her Mandarin teacher pressed her to as well but she balked at the prospect of homestay. I’ll have to live vicariously through your D this summer. How wonderful for her!

Wow, Maxwell!!! I read up on this program after you all started talking about it awhile back. Had never heard of it, being from he hinterlands, and it sounds amazing. Fingers crossed for you. What % move on to finalist?

WTG MaxwellD!

Maxwell, congrats!

How did your d found out? My d applied too, but I don’t think she has heard anything : (
