Okay, folks. It’s Monday morning of a holiday week, so if you didn’t take the whole thing off, you’ll need a little motivation for the next three or four days. I advise you to click on this link, turn the sound way up, and then laugh your tail off while realizing more and more why DC#2 wants to go to a school far, far away.

[The Muppets – “Bohemian Rhapsody”](<a href=“Bohemian Rhapsody | Muppet Music Video | The Muppets - YouTube”>Bohemian Rhapsody | Muppet Music Video | The Muppets - YouTube)

Are any of you working on paying off the Senior Class trip? BHG’s class is heading to Greece & Rome for 10 days next spring. Almost everyone is going, as the school locked in a plan last fall so families could make payments from 10/2013 through 02/15. My last payment is today. <:-P

BHM…We haven’t heard anything about a Senior Class Trip yet, but if they do one it almost certainly wouldn’t be as ambitious as your HS. Greece and Rome…holy crap!! I’d vote for leaving the kids at home to develop their “live on their own skills” while the loving parents (you know…those responsible for getting them to this point in their lives  ) get to take the 10 day trip to far away destinations. Life just ain’t fair sometimes… ~X(

SOG…Love the song choice!! I’m a huge fan of Queen’s music, and I about peed my pants the first time I saw the video of the Muppets version. MAMA!!! MAMA!!! :))

Big public here. The closest thing to a senior class trip is the peer pressure on parents to let your kids go to “Beach Week.” (He won’t be going.)

Nice BHM!! Our school does not have a senior trip, but they do have trips to Italy, Spain, France, and other places during the February and/or April break every year that the whole school can participate in. They usually correlate with a foreign language class. I never let my kids go because I did not want to spend the money. Our middle school also has a program where our kids can go to France for 2 weeks and live with a host family and then the French student comes to live with them.

Keep up the good work SOG!!
The closest thing we have to a real " senior trip" is going to the beach after prom. D won’t go which is fine with me.

@SomeOldGuy—Perfect Song of the Day!

BHM how large is the senior class?

LOL. Senior class trip is during the school day -a 45 minute bus trip to a State Park. Based on the disparity of the class trip, I really don’t want to try to process the disparity in the education…

My future stepson went to his orientation at Emmanuel this weekend. He met some kids he really liked, and he still likes the school, except for the dorms, which, truth be told, are more institutional than typical (like, halls completely tiled as if they expect to have to hose it down frequently).

We dropped my daughter off at her summer program (Center for Creative Youth at Wesleyan University) yesterday. She texted me last night to say she met some cool people and that she’s having fun.

There is no “Senior Class Trip” for D unless you count the trip to Six Flags the week before graduation (after finals). I think D will be going to St. Petersberg with her Russian class over (an extended) Spring Break, though. We don’t get details for a long time.

D has a list of 14. It’s actually a little “low-match” heavy, and I’m guessing that some of those schools will drop off as the process continues, though 14 isn’t a bad number for June. None of us are thinking about college at the present, summer is quite full and D is away for basically the entire rest of the summer. So we’ll take a break until August, for practical reasons. The key issue for D is the EA/SCEA issue, and for that she needs to make some decisions. I can’t decide for her.

The good news is that testing is completely done, and she has many essays in her pocket to draw on, though not a Common App. essay. I think that she’s learning that more time spent on essays (particularly the worrying about them stage) does not necessarily lead to more effective essays. Or at least I hope that she’s learned that lesson.

I think that she’s also done with formal college visits, at least until the Columbus Day weekend. There’s a school she loves that values demonstrated interest, so the plan is for her to visit, staying with a friend of her sister’s and interview over the long weekend. I’m sure that the college application plans will be much more clear by then.

No senior trip here either. I don’t even think they do a senior skip day, like we did in high school. They do have one language emersion trip to Spain that S would probably love to go to but it doesn’t happen until late June of next year, so after graduation. He thinks he’ll just be done by then and want to enjoy his last summer before college.

There’s no senior class trip at D’s school either. There is an orchestra trip but we don’t have details on that yet.

There’s still also no formal list here though I think (hope, pray) that it’s starting to develop. The real problem is not the full list, but as IJD points out, choosing the EA or ED or REA or SCEA school on which to focus first. The GC seems to feel that it’s important to have at least one of these. I think his feeling is that it (1) provides some relief in an otherwise highly stressful process and (2) tests the waters so that a student can shore up the rest of the applications in the event of a surprising denial. My philosophy is that you have to have all the applications done, early application or not, because the last thing a kid needs is to have to write applications right after receiving a denial. So, once the early school(s) are decided, the regular decision apps have to follow closely behind.

I wish our state university system provided an early decision option but unfortunately, it doesn’t, and we don’t have the “safe” flagship option. @dustypig, we’re also in California and the crazy UC results last year are creating some anxiety for everyone who thought they’d be able to use any of the popular UCs (essentially all but Riverside, Irvine, and Merced) as safeties.

No senior trip here either. We signed her up for a 2-wk trip to China next Spring as a graduation gift but it’s not school sponsored trip.

She will have a few EA schools that she will apply EA but we are leaning against ED, REA, or SCEA.
