Aren’t most t-shirts given out by clubs and companies the cheap round neck kind without buttons?
Who the heck wears a t- with buttons? Aren’t those called polos?
Not sure what you mean. there are t-shirts with a couple of buttons so the head goes through easily and then there are those without which cost only 3-5$ in bulk.
Well, he just wears the t-shirts that pull on, with the standard bit of give at the neck. They’ve held up well and wash well, and are thicker than what I assume are the ‘see-through’ type I imagine at $3-5. Either way, it is his chosen gear, evidenced by the more expensive gear I have purchased for him which he “accidentally” leaves behind after a visit home.
@Waiting2exhale that’s how my husband dresses. I think almost every t-shirt he wears is a give-away from a convention he’s attended or a work event. This, despite the fact that the kids and I have given him some really nice shirts (both t’s and polo style) from Tommy Bahama’s. Tonight we’re going to dinner with another couple. Perhaps I can coax him into wearing one of his upgrades, lol.
@dyiu13 when it comes to make-up, your D will do what she wants, regardless of what you suggest. It’s such a personal choice. I think prodding kids about their looks only makes them self conscious. If she is confident in herself, then more power to her.
Last day of school for my D16. Sigh
When it comes to make-up, D wears very little. Has never had a desire to use it.
T shirts with buttons and no collars are called Henleys.
How about those with collars and 2-3 buttons?
Polo shirts?
I have been misinformed for a while! I thought a polo needs more than 2 buttons.
Most promoters give t-shirts but it is considered cooler (more expensive for the companies) if they give out Polos.
“T shirts with buttons and no collars are called Henleys.”
Aah, and one would think I would know this as that is specifically what I look for when I am dressing the boy. Thanks for that, @carolinamom2boys .
@dyiu13 , my D,does not wear makeup on a daily basis to school. She will, on the rare occasion she gets up extra early, but even then, it’s just mascara and a little face powder and lip gloss. (and since she rarely gets up that early, that’s almost never, )
She does, however, go all out and wear “full” makeup for events like prom or a Homecoming dance, or for band/orchestra performances. (She did NOT bother, though, for Marching Band, even though she was the drum major - she thought the uniforms and overall look and performance of the band was more important than how her face looked.)
She is lucky in that she has really good skin tone that, for the most part, stays clear of blemishes. However, she is very pale, especially in winter, and has blond eyebrows and eyelashes, so, under stage lighting, she looks a little washed out and featureless.
I, myself, wear mineral makeup and I recommend it for anyone, because it can be layered… a thin layer looks really natural, as if makeup weren’t being worn at all, but still evens out skin tone; while a thicker layer provides excellent coverage for blemishes, but again, while still looking flawless and natural and letting your natural skin tone come through. It’s best put on with a thick kabuki brush, and maybe a small concealer brush if that’s needed.
I have occasional rosacea and the mineral makeup works great for coverage without looking “cakey”.
When we’ve toured a number of college campuses, I saw young women who wore full makeup, and just as many that did not - or it looked really natural.
@Waiting2exhale Look at Penneys, Express, American Eagle, The Gap
I had a $5.00 off coupon from BBB burning a hole in my purse. Found twin flannel sheet sets on clearance for $9.99/each. I have not started amassing very many college essentials. We’ll purchase quite a bit there before move-in since a flight will be required … but I sure do love a great deal!
Now my S likes super hero tshirts and baseball tees (long sleeve or 3/4 sleeve with different color sleeves than the rest of the shirt).
And my D loves to wear free giveaway tshirts to sleep in.
I could not have convinced my D to buy rain boots ahead of time, but walking all day in the rain and getting wet feet convinced her. She asked if she could buy some with Amazon prime. The ones she got have nice tread so they might also work in slushy snow with thick socks.
@sseamom, Chicago suburbs. It’s looking a little better now- maybe 40s in the morning. I will definitely take a blanket since the bleachers get very windy.
@psychmomma Too bad you don’t have a cool fleece or sweatshirt blanket from IU.
@dyiu13 D18 wears mascara, lip gloss and a little loose powder. She has acne breakouts pretty frequently. I bought her the Mario Badescu line of products from Ulta when they went on sale a few months ago. I see a huge difference. It’s pricier than drugstore brands, but a little goes a long way and it seems to be working. As for makeup removal, she uses makeup remover wipes. Burts Bees makes one for acne prone skin (the tomato one I think). She also uses a Clarisonic a few times a week.
I did not know Express carried men’s clothing!
DS will wear his fair share of t-shirts but, prefers henleys or polos. Having a little extra room helps when pulling on & off.- especially when he forgets to take off his glasses.
