S16 is very slim and is picky about how his clothes fit. He will pretty much only wear the slim button down shirts from J. Crew and Express. Both carry XS men’s as a shirt size. For jeans, we recently discovered that Uniqlo carries the slimmest cut jeans we could find and they have free hemming in store.
@RyanG1207 - Don’t know if you have any younger kids, but Boden USA has some great slim chinos and other gear for boys. I only buy when things are on clearance, but the clearance prices are super.
Didn’t know about Uniqlo (how does one say that?), so I will look into it.
@Waiting2exhale No younger boys, but I enjoy looking through their catalogs!
I say it like uniglo because that’s how I thought it was spelled until I saw the store sign. Not really sure how else it could be pronounced.
My super slim rising high schooler is actually not slim enough for the last pair of chinos I ordered, so I had to send them back. I actually wrote a note on the return slip letting them know how I adored the fabric and stylings of their clothing.
I can’t long to do it all over again, but if I did, my kids would look sooo cute!
@Waiting2exhale I second express for skinny chinos.
So I might be showing my age, but back when I went to college I rode my bike everywhere to get from point A to point B, class to class. Do kids still ride bikes at college?
@mrsquietstorm9 bikes are very popular at CofC .
According to their Wikipedia page, Uniqlo is pronounced “YOU-nee-klo.” It’s a Japanese company, which is why I think a lot of their clothes are sized smaller and slimmer.
My D rides a bike at her campus but my older S did not. This time there’s a bus system so S doesn’t want a bike.
I think it depends on campus landscape and size. And probably the weather. I don’t think you can ride a bike in the snow. But again I have not seen the show in almost 30 years so I am not an expert.
It seems some students favor riding long boards as less cumbersome on some campuses than bikes. My kid uses an adult-sized Razor for commutes now. But, I bet she’ll just walk at school next year, as it’s not that big of a campus.
I rode a moped at UCLA and loved it. I’d even ride to the beach. Worked out really well when I lived off campus in an apartment, too. Each campus has its own culture, I believe. ASU is big on longboards. There are special racks for them everywhere!
My older D had a bike, but preferred her longboard. She still goes out on it in the parks when she can. I lived on an enormous campus, but never had my bike at school. There was a bus system for the really long hauls, but mostly I walked. I didn’t see any bikes on D’s campus last month, but it’s a very small campus. It probably depends on where you are.
@Ballerina016 that’s something I noticed in South Hadley. I think we saw two bikes, tops! Students just walk.
My D especially liked the campuses where she saw more bikes. She’s excited to take hers…we’ll see how much she actually uses it. That reminds me, I need to research/order a bike lock and see if anyone I know can loan me one of those bike racks that hooks onto your vehicle so we can get it up there move in weekend.
I watched part of my college’s commencement on the live stream and I started bawling.
Glad I’m not the only one @readingclaygirl
Just a warning: My older son and a friend’s son both had their bikes stolen early in their first semester at their respective colleges. Not sure if bike theft on college campuses is big business…but it seemed that way to me!
@4kids2graduate Unfortunately it is .
Similar tale to @4kids2graduate except it was my nephew. Lock up those bikes!
