Congrats @bookmom7
âThe Avengers- Age of Ultronâ - Interesting. I watched it in shifts last two days after borrowing a DVD.
I wonder if I had an overlap with @carolinamom2boys party last night!
You were here in spirit @texaspg
" and we had several offers from undercalssman to take his place at our home when he leaves."
I love that about young people.
@Waiting2exhale I think it speaks more about my house than my parenting skills .
@Ballerina016 I thought the temporary dorm thing was just for last year I did hear they gave kids a lot of help who had to move. My son has 2 sets of friends going this year and none have talked about the temporary dorm situation. Is it just her dorm or are the guys just totally clueless (entirely possible ;)!!!
So sorry to hear about your frustrating cognitively dissonant experience, @dyiu13.
Glad that everyone else seems to be happy with graduation and parties. What is âpast salad,â @carolinamom2boys? Sounds perfect for a high school graduation!
D16 is a high school graduate! Everything went well, including the speech that I gave and the dinner afterward. Weâll have a going-away party later this summer. D16 yelled, âGo Mom!â during the speech; nice to know she wasnât embarrassed.
Thanks for the clothes drying rack idea! I have the big packing list but found some odds and ends that were missingâŠair freshener of some kind (we like the non-candle jars from yankee candle I think they are called spheres),
bookends, and luggage tags.
@EastGrad Congrats to your D on her graduation and to you on giving a speech
Obviously I didnât read my post @EastGrad . Past salad is pasta salad . Congrats to your daughter and in your speech .
@EastGrad - if your speech was anything like your posts, I am sure it was magnificent! Congrats on the grad!
@EastGrad I think she means pasta salad-thatâs what weâd serve.
Congrats to the new grads and parents. A week from today weâll be right in the middle of Dâs graduation at this time. H and I went on a marathon shopping/pricing session today-we have so many stores so close together that it will be easy to get everything for Dâs grad party we need at the lowest cost. We picked up the soda as the sale ends on Tuesday. along with water, juice and napkins. H also replenished his spices for his dry rubs, as heâs making several things for the party. We know where weâll be picking everything else up now.
D spent the afternoon studying for her two finals and finishing a couple of random missing assignments from one class. Itâs the one she often missed for her internship. Then she moved on to begin sorting her clothes for the big move. She also took down the âdivaâ sign from her door and replaced it with the countdown to graduation chalkboard. I think little by little the room will become less familiar as she makes the transition to living mostly elsewhere. :((
@carolinamom2boys - I understand why those other kids wanted to move in; I kind of did after reading about your party too. And I figured âpast saladâ was some kind of cool southern name for the thing where you take all the leftover veggies from previous dinners and put them in the salad. (I have done this, and itâs yummy!)
I think DH is struggling with all this. He keeps bringing up the âlastsâ that he is realizing. I am not sure how to help as he is normally not the sentimental one in this house. I think I will have a meltdown at drop off but for now am very calm about the whole thing. I have made conscious efforts to plan things to do with the time we will now have that was spent on DSâs ECâs before. I think it would be much harder for me to get to the fall and just have that time open than to fill it with other thingsâmainly supportive of DDâs ECs but some things just for us to do together that will continue as long as we choose. Any ideas from the Dads on this thread?
@Cheeringsection How social is your husband? Was he very active with your sonâs sports ? Would he consider volunteering for youth sports? Maybe Big Brothers or something? What types of hobbies does your husband participate in? Many of the scout dads remained active after their kids graduated from the troop.
We have both been active supporters and will both miss that. I have suggested we âadoptâ a team but he is not ready for anything like that yet. I think that I have I just processed this on an earlier timeline than he has. We will become more involved with our DDâs sport but it will be quite different since he never played and is just learning the rules. I am also encouraging deepening his friendships at our church.
Another last is done. My last time altar serving at church. It seems so weird to be done with something I have done for 9 years
@sseamom, thanks for the support! This is what happens when my kids are gone for the weekend, and I have to much time on my hands. I should really stay away from the Parent Forums.
@palm715 We both need an intervention. Iâve found that it can be quite maddening on some of those other threads. The fact that Iâve come off without prison bars truly is a miracle .
OK - have to vent here. My middle son was away for the weekend. At 1:20am on Friday night the police loudly knocked on our door and told my shocked husband, âwe have some bad newsâ - and then the bad news was, a city vehicle side-swiped my parked car and somehow they felt the need to tell us right then. (I only mention my son being away because of course there is panic if the police come and say they have bad news OMG) I called the police later in waking hours and the woman there was very unfriendly about whether it could have been done any differently.
