@3scoutsmom S loved music theory! He had some difficulty with the aural subtest, which I’m told is not unusual, but managed to do well on the test anyway. And actually, he’d be happy with your D’s entire schedule. He wants to take German at university since his high school Spanish isn’t good enough to get him exempted from the language requirement anywhere but Ginormous State U.
Definitely a challenging schedule, academically and logistically! I hope the final piece falls into place.
D’s fall college course (Mandarin) starts this evening. I’m going to drive her just for this first day so I can help her locate the building. Orchestra at the high school started last week, and two of the online courses begin after Labor Day. She has started most of her homeschool courses, but is having a technical problem with getting the right code for one curriculum. And the application essays are an everyday thing still!
I told S16 and S18 that if they had a 3.5 GPA for the year I would get them behind the dugout tickets for a Nationals game. If I had remembered that almost half of S16’s classes were math I may not have done it. Even if he slacks off in English class again he could make it.
@petrichor11 D intends to minor in German and music she should have enough AP credits to pull it off, we’ll see. She’s very excited about the exchange program that OU’s Meteorology offers. It’s a 6 month program at the University of Hamburg so she’ll really have to work on her German! I think kids that have a good ear for music also do well with foreign languages.
@fretfulmother Either school is fantastic for me. But I wanted her to choose she really loves to attend and a campus visit is a measure for her to decide which one is better fit.
Wheewww! I cannot provide full details but please congratulate me on navigating arrangements for a senior fall sport right of passage event without being put in a REALLY awkward position. I had started to dread the whole thing but now I can sit back and enjoy!!! #:-S
Congrats @Cheeringsection
@Cheeringsection Good Job!!!
@Cheeringsection Congrats!!!
@mysondad it is my daughters too. These last are killing me.
Congrats Cheering! We’re a little more than a week out from the first day of school here. D is the VP of ASB and they had two days of planning last week. This is a determined group of kids! They’re already revamping the school store, have a list of venues to check out for the winter dance, and for the first time ever, ASB will be helping keep the younger kids entertained at this week’s back-to-school BBQ. The BBQ is for entire families, and the little kids always get bored. They’re also looking at ways to get the students more involved in school activities.
What else…we had our meeting with the principal last week too. He worked with us on how the school will accommodate D’s needing to be included in senior project time while being in some different classes than most of them. He had good suggestions for her senior project and internship (graduation requirements) too.
The seniors are already having running group texts about graduation cap and gown colors (they want to change them) and senior trip (last year the kids didn’t fund-raise and didn’t go anywhere). They have senior photos during school on the first Friday of school. At some point soon there will be a senior parent meeting with all the kids.
D has 2 weeks left with her online classes. She has an A+ average in both. Once she gets done with the final paper and final test, she’ll start focusing on her applications. Her final ACT will be in September and her SAT will be at school-the entire district takes them sometimes in October.
We don’t have 7 or 8 class periods or many semester classes, nor AP, IB or any of that, so the schedule is set for each grade level unless a student needs acceleration or deceleration in math. D is looking forward to the start or school-being super busy energizes her. Can’t believe she’ll be a senior!
@cheeringsection Congrats!!
Congratulations, @Cheeringsection !
Thank you all! I feel so much better now that the potentially sticky situation is resolved!!!
Good first day of school! I got more info one that applied music class. First the teacher will let her out early the two days a week that she has an early CC class! There are about 15 kids in the class and they all play different instruments (everything from guitars and drums to violin and harp). They have a class meeting on Mondays and students practice on their own or may choose to practice in small groups through out the week. They preform their music for the class on Fridays.
The teacher has a form for their private music teachers to sign and she communicates with them on what each students should be working on and all students have to attend one college of professional concert every 9 weeks. Her music theory class has the same requirement so she’ll be killing two birds with one
stone:-)
Of course it’s a non-weighted class so it will bring down her GPA but I can’t even she believe she’s even getting credit for practicing and it keeps her eligible for all-region and state! In fact she is required to addition for regions as part of her final exam grade! Oh the best part of this is, after reading the syllabus, there is no mention of requiring the $200 instrument fee she was required to pay in her ensemble class! This eases the pain of having write the check for the $150 parking pass
That’s always a nice bonus!
This is our first go round in the college application process . Could someone please tell me how AP classes and test scores are reported. Does this come from the school or the college board , or are we supposed to list them somewhere on the application ? Any advice would be greatly appreciated . What goes in the awards section ? We’ve been putting NHS and Beta club in the ECs , but now I am second guessing where they should be.
@carolinamom2boys you have to self report them. There’s a section on CA and UC application where you can self report up to 15 APs.
I haven’t completed our common ap yet. We’ve been completing individual college applications and haven’t seen a specific place to report them. Thanks for your help@ballerina16.
Colleges require that students who want to show any AP test scores send an official Score Report from the College Board to the college. At least, that’s the standard.
