Wow @AsleepAtTheWheel My school with classes around 300 only has about a half dozen at most ED’s.
Well the eye will draw some attention today but DS is off to school anyway. He does not want to miss classes and have to catch up.
Looking like Rocky might not have been bad for the interview as those determined and resilient boxes would have been an easy check off. At least the senior pictures are already done.
Glad he’s ok.
Has anyone been to an interview with their kid? DS is doing one tonight where the sign up says its to talk “with you and your family.” I think that’s weird, but maybe it’s not that unusual?
@Almondjoy1 when S15 did interviews, they were usually in hotel lobbies. He would go talk with the admin person for half an hour or so and then they would come out and invite me in to ask any questions about the school, culture or program that I might have. My part never lasted more than 3-5 minutes and it never happened on an alum interview, only ones with admin counselors.
My D '11 always took herself to interviews. She never indicated that family/parents were invited and since she had a driver’s license she took herself. I guess I have never heard of parents being invited.
She sent out her housing application at 2:00AM this morning. She said she wrote terrible essays, double spaced 22 pages total. Anyway, it’s done. I wish she’s more focuses on college app but… who knows.
We did an interview at Illinois Wesleyan and I was invited in for the entire interview. I was surprised, as I thought it would be the kid going in alone… I tried to stay in the background, allowing D to ask questions. I did ask a couple of questions I thought that she hadn’t thought of, and I wanted answers to… But I can’t even remember what they were now. In short, I let D do most of the talking and interacting with the ad-com.
DS has an interview coming up that said “parents are encouraged to attend”. Dad is out of town so I plan to be there but was planning on the same approach as BeeDAre. Any questions I ask will be about the scholarship process, etc and only if DS fails to ask.
DD just made a semifinalist for one of the full tuition scholarships to our top state university. The problem is, if she makes a finalist, it will be ED, and she does not want to commit to one school before she gets all of her acceptances. She is not a finalist yet, but I do not understand how someone can say no to full tuition paid at THIS school.
Wow, @Ballerina2016 , that is great! Congrats to your daughter!
Awesome @Ballerina2016 ! Congratulations to your daughter.
@Ballerina2016 That’s awesome. Congratulations!!!
At the last interview, I never even left the car…
@Ballerina2016 Congrats! Your daughter is having a pretty exciting beginning of school with her scholarships awards.
Thank you everyone. This one is not in a bag yet. I am looking for money, she is chasing a dream. Let’s see if we can meet half way.
S received two acceptances yesterday… both were to non-selective schools with easy apps (no essay required). But still - yeah! Now we know he has choices!
No luck so far with working on essays for the common app or supplements for those more selective colleges on his list however…and am finding myself beginning to nag! A couple of the EA deadlines are Oct. 15th! And…he has not completed his resume yet to give to the teachers and GC for recommendation letters…and they need 2-3 weeks to get their part done. At least he asked them at the beginning of Sept. and they agreed…so perhaps they are already working on something? One can only hope…
I just am completely amused by the fact that Ahmed Mohamed is already letting MIT know he wants to attend (on national news). Hey, good on him for going with it! I suppose being That Clock Boy is an effective hook, yeah?
This is my DD’s first paid writing which was written 4-5 months ago. Small money and she complains about taxes.
@NYDad513, her voice is interesting and authentic! I like it.
