Fingers crossed @AsleepAtTheWheel . Those overnight visits can be tough. They fall in love so easily at that age. And the schools really put on a nice show. My D has one next week and I’m afraid that nothing else is going to compare.
@carolinamom2boys congrats! You both must be so pleased that at least that part of the stress is off.
I should be thrilled. D decided to actually look for clothes for her senior pictures 3 whole hours before we are due at the high school. A new record I think. Of course she has an EC meeting for an hour before the pictures. I wonder if her hair will dry in time.
@carolinamom2boys - you and your son must be doing the HAPPY dance! I can imagine everyone’s stress level in your household just went down a few notches! Does the ACT score get him the scholarship automatically, or just qualify him to be considered?
@carolinamom2boys boys That is absolutely wonderful! You must feel like Christmas arrived early! Best of luck since your son now has additional options that will undoubtedly help lower overall cost at that school…keep all of us posted!
Cool to hear good news coming for some already; that makes it seem real. S may be done if Temple weights his GPA the same his HS. That would mean automatic full tuition; unless he hates it when he visits later this month. Since all the Temple parents in our neck of the woods say their kids love it there that isn’t likely.
Congrats to you and your S @carolinamom2boys. That’s awesome that he did so well. Fingers crossed here as my D diligently studies for her retake of the SAT 2 in Math 2. She took 3 SAT 2’s in June and did very well on the Literature and US History and just ok on the Math 2. So she is retaking the Math 2 over and hoping for a better score. No matter what this is the last exam she is taking so I am holding my breath, saying a few hundred prays an crossing fingers and toes. LOL In the end it will be what it will be. There is only so much you can do and then you have to turn the page and move on.
Thanks@lvmjac1. Good luck to our daughter. I honestly think my son was more excited about not having to retake the SAT this Saturday than qualifying for the scholarship . These poor kids are all tested out in addiction to everything else they have going on. I know we can’t weight for things to slow down.
@mstomper Hoping your S qualifies for automatic full tuition…it sounds like Temple would be a good fit if he likes it when he visits…and it is closer to home and more urban than Ole Miss!!! Keeping my fingers crossed it all works out in his favor!
@mstomper – That’s great news about your son. Temple is a wonderful school, and although I know only a few parents whose kids are there, all those kids are very happy.
@carolinamom2boys Congrats to your S!! D is taking her Math Level 2 and Chemistry SAT subject tests in two days… eep! She is very nervous but I think she’ll get the scores that she wants. Which colleges is your son applying to?
DD is putting so many hours into SAT 2 preparation. I hope she will reach her target score this time. She will be taking two science tests on Saturday. Everything else is on hold now, so hopefully she will not need to retake it in November.
What are those overnight visits some of your kids attending? Is is like fly in programs that require application and essays?
@carolinamom2boys Congratulations! That’s completely awesome. Especially the part about not having to test again-- we hit saturation point with testing as well, and it definitely shaped S’s application list. I’m expecting to reach that point with essays as well and only hope it happens as the last one is finished.
@mstomper Best wishes to your son! Temple sound like an excellent option.
I’ve been examining the Common Data Sets (collegedata.com) for the schools on my D16’s list and the racial mix is going to be a shock for her. Her top choice school is about a quarter Hispanic, with the rest being White and few Blacks or Asians. Then there is one school that is very balanced in White, Black, Hispanic, and Asian. But all the rest are almost all White. My kid is White but she has always been in schools where it’s usually either a fairly even mix of White, Black, and Hispanic, or where she is the only White kid in a predominately Black school. Most her ECs have been similarly mixed, usually with her as the only White kid. The colleges she has access to are so different. There, the student bodies are almost all White. There was one predominately Black college in Detroit she considered, but that one has fallen off the list. She’s in for a big change, I think.
