@grlscoutmom, lol! Good to get some perspective!
It’s been well below zero here all week, ugh
@Smilla We are totally in your same boat. Now that there is a nice block of time available (not really but that is what my D thinks) my D wants to dilly dally with her remaining RD applications. Of course they are to the schools that give interviews so I keep telling her to get them in sooner rather than later so she is assured to get her on the alumni interview list. As with all kids they think there is an endless supply of time, appointments, etc. They do not realize the time constraints on many of these processes. At first I kept saying “lets have them all done by Thanksgiving” now I am revising that to “Before December 1st”. My D wants weekend of Dec 5-6th…UGH. I said no. Hopefully she abides by that thought because truthfully…how can I make her without making a truly negative situation? Fingers crossed that it doesn’t come to that. Where is the wine?
@GoodGrief16 - What state are you in? I can’t even imagine that this early in the year!
How those schools with interviews schedule them if student submits by January deadline? Will they be offered interview as well?
D applied EA to a college oos and received an email that someone from Admissions will be conducting interviews locally. Decisions are supposed to come out 12/15 and D’s interview is scheduled 12/13. Talk about down to the wire.
@sseamom …“I accidentally posted on the other thread last night too. D’s school has given out the order forms for caps and gowns, and all the extra junk the company offers, like $300 rings and $50 unpersonalized sweatpants. D’s having none of that…”
We have received that package too. They want you to bundle the cap & gown with water bottles and sweat pants that say “Class of 2016.” They’re generic; no mention of the school. Lots of other useless stuff. The day after they graduate most kids want no mention of high school.
We toured colleges last weekend. In ones bookstore there was a display of cap & gowns for the seniors. They were $20 cheaper at the university. I think Herff Jones might be trying to rip us off.
@OspreyCV22 I think it speaks more to most HS students parents pay for the cap and gowns while in college the students are more likely to foot the bill.
@Ballerina016 You really cannot wait until the deadline if you want to be assured of getting an Alumni interview. They say that if you are not able to get an interview it will not be held against you BUT I do not know if I buy that theory. Therefore, I recommend submitting them as early as possibly to give them time to put the student on the list. Maybe they give bonus points for early preparation? I don’t know but if I were in the admissions office and I had two equally qualified applicants and one had their application submitted in early December and the other at the deadline…I would probably think that the earlier possibly wants it more. Of course there may be many other very valid reasons including finances but how can anyone be assured that is the thought they will hang on to? In my opinion, to put in all that work and then to leave the possibility of an interview to a doubtful position would be unfortunate.
One honors application is almost finished!! Five completely optional essays written by my DS that came out of junior high honors LA believing he was a terrible writer. Thank you, thank you, thank you to the GC and freshmen LA teacher that knew how to turn that around. =D> <:-P
We’re getting a break on the cap and gown, since S has no interest in going to graduation. I think he’s just been waitig for high school to end since freshman year, and the end is now in sight.
Just completed my letter of recommendation to the Eagle Board for DS16 to be awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. And the blubbering ensues once more. I recommend everyone buy stock in Kleenex . You could finance your child’s college education with my purchases alone. :((
D16 said she does not want to go to graduation and I said she should. No words regarding gowns and caps yet.
Buy Puffs. I already own that stock.
That is terrifically funny, carolinamom2boys. May all go well.
Senior’s dues are $220 at our school. Just the senior’s dues. Prom expenses are separate.
Our Senior’s due is $250. D does not want to go to prom and is very firm about it. So… probably she’s not going.
No prom for us either. That would involve DS16 speaking to a girl.
my dd school does have a formal but is firm in stating it is not a prom. No dates, no before or after parties except the sanctioned one put on by the parents. Definitely no limos. Sort of odd when I first heard about it but I do think it eliminates some of the awkwardness
@carolinamom2boys wishing you and your son success for the eagle scout award board review.
Our senior dues are around $100. Not including prom, or a yearbook, or or or…
