Wow, those are some harsh policies about missed time! Hope you families dealing with that can work things out for visits.
H just got a call from the school D has been trying to reach-she is ACCEPTED! However they never did get the SAT scores-boy the College Board ticks me off. But as apparently that is not unusual, they will accept a screen shot or transcript showing the scores sent directly from the school. Once they have that, D will be considered for a full ride scholarship. She already has the grade portion met and then some.
So we now have 5 acceptances and two likely, with 3 more out there left to go. Then it will be all about the money.
@mysonsdad: I can only imagine the frustration you must be feeling, both for the bureaucracy as well as the apparent lack of strong guidance by those your son looked to to help guide him through a process each family presumes them to be somewhat adept at.
Many universities strongly suggest that if one is a native speaker of the foreign language, that a student test in a different language. They do not wish to grant advanced academic credit for a foreign language that is actually not, afterall.
This does not in any way aid your son, and does not explain away that other non-native speakers were allowed to take the class, but do you know whether your school is seeking to help the native Spanish-speaking kids build as strong a GPA as possible, having presumed that there is a need for such a boost for those students?
S just heard that he is in at one of his EA schools - this was one that was the most âiffyâ!! So happy/proud! There will be some tough decisions to make in the coming months for sureâŠbut these moments are to be savored nowâŠ
Wow! That seems a bit draconian. There are some advantages to going to a school with a sketchy graduation rate, I guess. Our administration tries very hard to be sure kids donât get derailed at the last minute. As long as the workâs done and his grades are good anyway, they wouldnât say anything about an absence. The state would, if he were an habitual truant (theyâd yank his license, assuming he had one), but the school doesnât.
Congrats, @sseamom, @arisamp, and @2fillesâhope I didnât miss anyone else. Today was a good day for our thread! Every time you post about your school and its policies, @petrichor11, I wonder if weâre in the same district. But weâre actually across the country from each other.
I guess I better find out what the policy is at our school. Never thought this would be a problemâseems so obviously important to visit colleges. If they are doing well in school, what is the big deal?
