@readingclaygirl - yes & was accepted in 2 honors programs that are almost as selective as lottery schools (40 & 50 freshman in each group per year).
I think he is set for undergrad.
Thanks for asking & it is always nice to finish one more task.

S is still waiting to hear from almost all of his schools. Weâre proceeding as if heâll get into nowhere but State Flagship U (heâs in at State Directional, which is a ânoâ and at BC, which has not discussed financial aid as of yet, but which may be unaffordable since we know he didnât get a particular scholarship he was hoping for). Still seven schools out, and not releasing info until the end of March
Meantime, his twin sister and almost all his classmates know where theyâre going, and he gets asked daily what his plans are by well-intentioned adults. I think people are beginning to think that since heâs not saying, he must not have gotten in anywhere. Itâs disheartening.
@petrichor11 I have friends who just havenât heard yet and wonât hear until next month. It definitely gets annoying for them, all the questioning.
Speaking of whittling down schools, my D just informed me that realistically sheâs down to 5 possibilities.
Three she was admitted to have dropped from contention: One was never really a top choice. One pulled its guaranteed full tuition scholarship for NMF after she had applied. One she didnât love during the visit and it would likely be on the high side costwise.
Of the five left, sheâs been admitted to three.
Two are very comfortable costwise and good fits for her major. Another is slightly more $ but had been a top choice.
The final two, she awaits decisions at end of March and one of them is, well, I donât even know how to categorize USC for her ⊠low reach?
It will be a long two months.
Knowing that she has three viable options already is a good place to be, though.
@LKnomad They will want updated testing and certain tests in particular. I think the TOWL was a big one they specifically like to see. My son was initially granted some of the accomodations we asked for not all and took the PSAT without the most important ones and got almost NMSQ scores as a 9th grader and we still were able to get the rest of the accomodations after that. After the incomplete accomodations (missing extra time) I sent in 10 years of IEP pages showing the accomodation and a letter from our Ped (that I told him what to say directly from the testing report) and the rest was approved. We got ACT accomodations with no hassle. Iâm not sure what to tell you about finding schools to give the tests. For non-standard test accomodations the ACT is not given on national testing dates but in a 2 week window they are given at school. So they had to pull a special ed teacher for an entire school day to just test my sonâtwice. For AP tests he was also the only one tested using accomodations except for 2 of tests so again it is a big drain on the staff. He was able to take the SAT subject tests at a regular testing site and never took the SAT because the ACT was a much better test for him.
@dyiu13
Congratulations⊠You have made it to the finish line!
Thanks all! She did qualify for Jr Nationals and is super excited!
@petrichor11 We are in the same boat as your S. Acceptances to two safeties although one seems off the list. S will hear from one more safety by March 1, then the remaining 7 schools in mid to late March. In retrospect, we should have had some EA schools if only because the wait right now feels like an eternity and so many of the schools will tell S the last week in March. I donât remember it being this bad with D six years ago. She also applied to 10 schools but the decisions started in November with a few in Jan. and Feb. and just a few in March. There seemed to be a better flow. Two schools that both she and S applied to told her in early Feb. but now they release decisions at the end of March. I donât want to wish Sâs senior year away but it has been very stressful - for him and for us.
@GoodGrief16 long LONG ago I was an XC skier. Before there were separate categories for skating and classical! Making JNats was a huge highlight. It is funny to think about nowâwhen I chose a college, snow was a big requirement for me. I was sure Iâd be skiing seriously. Never didâtook up crew instead and devoted my free time to that. No regrets, but it reminds me that what I prized so much at 17 did not matter at all by 19.
I think D is down to 4 contenders. We are in a hotel at one of them tonight, getting ready for scholarship interview day tomorrow. Iâm intrigued to see where this all goes.
Congratulations @GoodGrief16 to your daughter! When are Jr. Nationals?
@LKnomad, we also had the issue with the Common App deleting the final paragraph of Dâs essay. We noticed, but it would have been easy to miss. I thought the solution of doubling the last paragraph and then adding the hard return (was that yours @texaspg?) was brilliant. I canât remember how D solved it, but it took a few minutes and a work around.
@goodgrief16 and @critter, I am curious about which public school in a mountainous state with a ski team is so unreasonably selective. I hope you tell us someday.
Congrats to @GoodGrief16âs D and to everyone else who has received good news. Sympathy to all those struggling with FAFSA, Profile, and IDOC. Blech.
A week of February done already! March and decisions are around the corner, though the waiting is hard. And graduation will be right on the heels of decisions. I keep looking at photos of D when we got our first digital camera and she was about twoâŠ
@eastgrad - I found that when you try to keep adding the last paragraph was not working. It allowed addition at the end of previous paragraph and then splitting it after save (or thats what I remember). However, we were sitting in a restaurant in Glendale after attending Rose Bowl where 5 apps were submitted in a 2 hour span over dinner. There were at least 2 apps where the edit issue was missed in that rush to submit.
@texaspg, my recollection, now vague, was that after D cut-and-pasted the essay from Word, the Common App told D that she was over her word allotment and thus the last paragraph was not included. Of course, D had written an essay that was within the word limit. D did some reformatting or something and got the last paragraph in. Her essay would have been significantly strange without the last paragraph. Sympathy to your child but I hope the Rose Bowl was a good time. I think itâs a relief to all of us to hear that even the child of a Super Moderator sometimes undergoes a rush to submit. Thanks for making us all feel a little better.
@Booajo, that is really cool that you were a skier! I think you are right on about priorities changing.
@collegemom2boys, early March
As far as narrowing the list, well, D had a huge list! So currently down to 4 top contenders, and 5 that have yet to offer a decision. We still have some visiting to do.
Well, just looked at the forms in the IDOC and I am going to have to head to my accountant for help with that stupid business/farm supplement. I have no idea what it is asking for.
Today, I innocently asked a friend whose son is applying to several private schools as a transfer if any of his schools were IDOC schools and she yelled at me, told me she didnât want to hear any more acronyms, and to stop stressing her out. She doesnât even have to deal with a business supplement!!! Financial aid forms are ruining my friendships!!!
@eastgrad - my kid does not take my advice whatsoever and she is shocked that anyone asks me for advice here.
@LKnomad , click on the icon next to the words for the supplement. The form is there to be downloaded. Itâs not an official tax form.
@texaspg, now itâs clear why the cobblerâs children have no shoes: the poor cobbler canât make a pair that his children are willing to wear.
@GoodGrief16 I found the supplement. But because my accountant does my taxes, I donât know enough to fill it out. Depreciation, gross profit, deductions not counting salary, this form, that form, column A, column B, or neither. I have to make an appt to get the accountantâs assistance. It is getting too complicated.
Congratulations on junior nationals @goodgrief16! I hope she does well there also.
